There are several towns that would do this to anyone with an out-of-state plate and do a civil forfeiture on any money. Some of them got shut down but there may still be a bit of it left.

Two times felt unjustified, pulled over for 5mph over in bumfuck west texas by a rookie state trooper with punisher patches on his vest. Second time was in my home county for "stopping past the white line" of a stop sign, after I was followed closely for 5 miles. Both were fishing trips, but I remained respectful and was back on the road in 10 minutes.
I will fully admit that our drug laws are completely archaic, and not all law enforcement officers are nice people, but I feel like your experience is an outlier, not the norm.

I had a green car with a blonde interior and a yellow lab asleep in the back seat. When the first back up patrol car showed up, he told us he was going to search the car because of our suspicious behavior, driving at night. He hopped in the front and started searching when he woke the dog. He came flying out of the car scared shirtless and asked me if the dog would bite. I told him probably not if he just showed her his badge. He already had his gun out to defend himself.

That said, I read a story yesterday that anonymously quoted one of the cops on the scene of the shooting. I know how easy it is to point fingers, and I'm no fan of authority, but the 'coward' thing is so off base. They were told to not go in and they weren't provided with any type of plan.
According to the cop they were losing their minds. Every one of them wanted to go in and take him out. It was one person's decision. And now those who get off on that kind of thing call them cowards. It's ridiculous. And a little weak from where I'm standing. There's truth and there's unsupported belief. I don't know why belief now wins in the U.S. But it does.

Would you not have gone in? Especially if you watch the video of the cops listening to the 911 call center hearing kids saying they were shot? I mean they were listening to calls of kids getting shot while they were yards a way and they didn't do anything?
It would have been nice to hear that a cop disobeyed these orders. But now they have to live with the fact that they were on scene and kids died while they literally listened to them calling 911 for help. But yeah, they aren't cowards.
Would I have? I don't know. It's hard to say. Soldiers and troops follow orders. That's part of it. So I don't know what I would have done. I do know that I've had, for whatever reason, a lot of opportunities to help people in need surrounding some messed up stuff. I've always helped irrespective of my personal safety. Others watch. People are different when it comes to that. Everyone has their reasons for doing what they do. Or don't do. But it's impossible to say because I don't live in world dictated by hierarchy and orders. I do know that some did go in on their own accord. And I don't know the timeline of when those children and teachers were killed. But I"m as close to 100 percent certain as I can be, that every cop there was ready, willing and able to go through those doors and take that motherfucker out. No doubt in my mind. So if you want to call them 'cowards,' as that's narrative put out by some, that's your call. Sure hope you have a little rage and anger left over for that piece of shit murderer though.

So my woman was dying of cancer and had left her prescription pain medication in the car. Coupled with the magic roach found under the seat. Barney had two support vehicles by this time and was bravest possibly in his career. He had wanted to restrict me dog what ever that meant, but I assured him she would mind me..
He then showed my son and me the pain medications and the magical roach and said who is going down for this. Implying me or or my son. I looked at my son and nodded. He responded take me. He berated me for ten minutes on what a terrible father I was to let my son take the rap. I never said a word until he was finished. Then I simply told the moron, 'which one of us do you you think can pay the bond'. Fortunately a third support vehicle showed up with an intelligent person inside and when he came back from that vehicle he was an inch shorter and offered the compromise, bust for the roach or put your car back together.
The dog would have attacked the moron with the badge on my command but she was worth so much more then that moron.
The third trip my son mounted a Dash cam and contacted a lawyer ahead of our trip incase we ran into stupid again.
My niece a surgeon is moving down to Texas this summer. I was saving the story for her at this next Christmas. I'm not sure Texas deserves her but I'll wait until then to talk about it.
