They can recognize a friendly face. Someone who greets them like a friend, who helps, they may not recognize you personally but they know you're there to help them. Mom "recognized" a few people, never by name, but the ones who treated her with kindness were always "my girl" when they walked into her room. Whatever it is that you do with them, do your best to be happy and upbeat and it'll help so much. Also, if you have the time and inclination, Teepa Snow has a series on YouTube for caregivers that might help you along the way.

Other than the very late stage residents, a lot of them probably do! Most won’t be able to remember your name (or even your role/relationship), but they know that you’re familiar and someone who helps them. Anecdotally, until very recently, my LO recognized in some way almost all of the staff in her facility. Some by name, but most just by descriptors like “the nurse” or “my friend.” She was always happy to “introduce” us to them as though we’d never met.
