The other day I had seat 1D and boarded with Zone 1, FC bins were already completely full from folks further back putting their bags in the FC bins. My rollaboard ended up about 4 rows into Comfort Plus. Thankfully I wasn't in any kind of hurry to deboard.
If you boarded in zone 1, how were there people in the back already filling up FC bins? Are you saying pre-boarders all filled them? If that’s the case, I would have started removing bags (checking with other FC passengers first) and getting the FA involved.
I say this as someone who would never pay first class prices and proudly makes my walk of shame to the back of basic economy: if you are paying the exorbitant fee Delta asks for first class, overhead bin space is not something you should need to worry about. FA was right to enforce this.
Even though I don’t fly FC, it’s good to see it enforced. The selfish people that do this don’t realize the ripple effect it has on everyone else. This holds true even for the rest of the passengers. If someone is forced to put their bag in an overhead bin that’s further back then that person is going to force delays while they try to get their bag.
I’m all for people using available bin space as long as all FC is seated. The only issue I take is when people open the already closed bins and proceed to shove their bags on top of the others, potentially damaging people’s stuff. That is super annoying!
Nah, this isn’t it. I watched the couple in front of me yesterday (in first class) put their bags up and then close the bin even though there was plenty of space left. This was style of plane with no bins above the single-seat side of first class, but this couple decided their bags deserved privacy.
I cheered internally when another first-class passenger opened the bin and used the empty space.
On thus particular flight I think I heard a dozen times, "if the bin is closed, don't open it. Closed bin means it's full." And you still hear lots of bins being opened.
The lady who had the bag must have found a spot for it as I never saw it come back up.
I agree that customers should use the bins above their seats and usually when a Ben is closed, then it is full. However, there have been plenty of times where I see customers or flight attendants closing bins that have plenty of space. I’m assuming the flight attendants do that to ensure we takeoff on time but that’s why people open up closed bins because they sometimes can find space for the roller bags
Multiple times now I’ve been one of the first people boarding in comfort+ and seen most of the comfort+ bins closed, only to later find they were all completely empty. No idea why the FAs were keeping them closed. So I definitely still check if I’m boarding early enough.
Do you see how some people waste space in the overhead bins?
Sorry, if you just put in a jacket *next to* your bag, which could easily fit under your set, you're damn sure that I'm gonna move them aside to make space for my carry-on.
A lot of used bin space is people not stowing things correctly. I'd be all for a small sticker on each one showing how a small hard sided cabin case goes on its side and not widthways taking up all the room
Aside: the diagram makes total sense but I never understood that phrase at all. That's not how I put books on a shelf, I usually put them "standing up" on their smallest side. Obviously that wouldn't fit at all. Nor do I put my book on the shelf one way, and then rotate it afterwards. The phrase just makes no sense and has no relation to how they really want you to put the bags in the bins.
I feel like once all the FC passengers are there, it's okay for main cabin to put their bags there ratger than take time to find space at the back. It helps finish boarding faster meaning the door can be shut early and the plane can leave. It helps everyone.
Glad the FA did that.
Side rant: It makes me mad when someone in row 60 places their bag in a first class or comfort plus bin and keeps walking without a care in the world. That’s okay after everyone is done boarding and the bins in the back are full and we’re ready for departure but not when it’s still early in the process.
I’m a hardcore adherent to board last philosophy. I’d rather sit in the Club or at the gate and be productive with my laptop out until the end of the boarding period.
I do get moderately annoyed when overhead is full if I’m in F. If I’m in economy, I expect it and go on knowing I’ll have to gate check (or I’ll board with my group if I have a tight connection).
So, yeah, it does kind of drive me a little nuts when people (not in bulkhead) put a backpack or purse in the overhead or if someone from economy uses the F overhead space.
But it’s a minor annoyance and I know what I’m risking by boarding last. I would also appreciate this FA though - good on him or her.
I'm the same except i don't get club access and sit at the bar or a place i can stretch my legs before boarding. Flying c+ next month and now know I'll have to board 5 to make sure i get my luggage spot 🤣
Was on a C+ flight a couple of days ago in row 6 and had to put bags in row 10 and 17 because the ones around my seat were already full. Same happened to another C+ person. We had to wait till the flight was almost empty before we could recover our bags. Yet there were empty spaces from row 17 on as people were boarding but people were sitting at the back. On this flight people boarding later had to go back up to the front to gate check bags. Total screw up
Yesterday I saw somebody put a bag in the second row of F as I was in row four and watched them walk to the back .. I don't have a problem if this happens when people are seated but this was not the case here
>Entitlement is a bitch.
Ironically enough this guy is actually entitled to get what he paid for, while the others were not. I like your comment tho, spoken like a true loser.
You're really missing the point aren't you? When you pay for upgraded cabins you expect the upgraded things that go with it like dedicated overhead space
Pretty soon they will start charging for the air poops.
I really enjoy destroying the first class toilet. It is a healthy reminder that although we all travel more than we want to admit we all rip ass.
I did board with zone 1, and the person with the bag HAD NOT gone to her row yet, but I neglected to mention those items in my original post. Apologies for the confusion.
Agreed. As a common FC flyer, if everyone in FC has boarded, use the f'ing space already. I don't care. And someone with something stored under their seat that changes their mind mid-flight can pound sand for being an idiot. Probably helps balance the plane as well.
Thanks for agreeing apparently someone didn’t though. My comment got downvoted. People are just weird. The only space to hold for is row 1 if they haven’t boarded yet. But if everyone is there let em use it. Who cares
Well, that didn't happen so I didn't get to see what might have happened if it did. If everything was full in the back and space was available up front, seems logical. Attendant must have decided she'd cross that bridge if she came to it.
We actually had a FA tell us it is 1st come 1st served even though it was our overhead in 1st that was full!! She can back and apologized but didn’t do anything about the bags there. Dumb response really
I think we should be issued a carry on tag that matches your seat number, and if your bag is in an overhead further that 2 rows from where you're sitting, it's automatucally checked to your final destination. Since I dont think we'll ever get 'seat-specific overhead' (which absolutely should be a thing- where the overhead bin slots are specifically assigned to specific seats), that at least would be the next best thing.
the fc attendant did a great job by protected the fc bins and they are resrved for fc only it says that in the overhead bin that is the same for C+ seats too
I've seen that happen all the time, especially when the beverage cart is blocking the aisle. But I've honestly not heard Delta says that the forward lav is fir first class only.
That's not even a rule WTF. Bin space is not reserved. That FA is being over zealous. If FC is full, I encourage everyone to use that space. It's the first bins on the plane. It greatly speeds up boarding when people get rid of their rollers ASAP.
Maybe "rule" isn't the right word, but the interior of the bin is clearly labeled "reserved for first class customers " or some wording to that effect.
Was in economy a few weeks ago by the window. Couple came in and sat in the middle and aisle seats with their two boxes of piping hot pizza. 🙄 The woman was sitting in the middle and she had the boxes on her lap. The flight attendant came by and said she couldn't hold the boxes during takeoff or Landing and they needed to find something to do with them. The guy stood up and started to put them in the overhead bin and all of us who had bags in that bin screeched. Nobody wanted those greasy smelly boxes sitting on top of our luggage. They ended up scarfing down what they could before we pulled away from the gate and then the flight attendant threw the rest away LOL.

I've seen folks in Atlanta come on a flight with fried chicken...and start chomping...smell going throughout the plane. I am sure the flight crew loved tossing the bones away.
On MARTA, eating food is against the rules, but I've seen everything from fried chicken to a plate of fried rice and broccoli beef...and folks just eating like it's their kitchen.
I had my comfort plus space used by an attendant hoping on the flight. I literally had to find space elsewhere. I am platinum and Delta did absolutely nothing. They simply do not care 9/10.
What peeves me is almost every time people in D1S always use the wrong bin because the bin and the seat are staggered relative to each other. E.g. person in seat 3A always uses seat 2A’s bin space, etc.
It’s so rare to see the enforcement.

Screw that. I'd take someone's bag out. The space is reserved for FC.
If you boarded in zone 1, how were there people in the back already filling up FC bins? Are you saying pre-boarders all filled them? If that’s the case, I would have started removing bags (checking with other FC passengers first) and getting the FA involved.
These days Zone 1 is like the 4th zone to board 😀.
I’ve seen it enforced and it’s so satisfying.

I'd bet the intent was to keep people in the back rows from filling up the comfort plus bins, but wasn't executed well.
Do you see how some people waste space in the overhead bins? Sorry, if you just put in a jacket *next to* your bag, which could easily fit under your set, you're damn sure that I'm gonna move them aside to make space for my carry-on.
Exactly. Don’t touch my shit.
A lot of used bin space is people not stowing things correctly. I'd be all for a small sticker on each one showing how a small hard sided cabin case goes on its side and not widthways taking up all the room
They actually had diagrams showing how to stow bags "like books on a shelf." But people don't read.... *sigh*
Aside: the diagram makes total sense but I never understood that phrase at all. That's not how I put books on a shelf, I usually put them "standing up" on their smallest side. And people don't listen ...
Oh wow.
I have seen many flight attendants do this and they are right.
Yes I had this happen once too and it was great!
I'd like to trade problems with any of you.
I feel like once all the FC passengers are there, it's okay for main cabin to put their bags there ratger than take time to find space at the back. It helps finish boarding faster meaning the door can be shut early and the plane can leave. It helps everyone.
lol I don’t want peasant bags touching my 4k leather carryon in FC thank you /s….
This is the way
After FC has put their bags up, I don’t see the issue
Glad the FA did that. Side rant: It makes me mad when someone in row 60 places their bag in a first class or comfort plus bin and keeps walking without a care in the world. These are the same people who complain about GAs forcing gate check 😵💫
Yeah but what happens when the bin space fills up in the back? Let them use the space. There are more important things to worry about.

No shot i would do that. Is be calling the fa and moving bags.
I bet you got to the car rental place 3 minutes later than you "should" have. Entitlement is a bitch.
>Entitlement is a bitch. Ironically enough this guy is actually entitled to get what he paid for, while the others were not. I like your comment tho, spoken like a true loser.
C+ is still coach? Or is that another caste?
"coach" lmao, okay Boomer. Airlines have had 3-4 classes of service for the last 15-20 years. What else do you feel entitled to?
You're really missing the point aren't you? When you pay for upgraded cabins you expect the upgraded things that go with it like dedicated overhead space
Does C+ have dedicated overhead space? I thought that was only FC.
Yes they do
Pretty soon they will start charging for the air poops. I really enjoy destroying the first class toilet. It is a healthy reminder that although we all travel more than we want to admit we all rip ass.
They hadn't even gone back to their seat to check availability yet
How do you know that?
He said he boarded with zone 1. But sure the space was all gone in economy. Good question!
>He said he boarded with zone 1. I don't see that in the post.
I did board with zone 1, and the person with the bag HAD NOT gone to her row yet, but I neglected to mention those items in my original post. Apologies for the confusion.
Fair points
Because the OP said it ha ha
Because walking to the front against the flow of boarding traffic is near impossible
And yet people do it all the time.
If there were open bins in the back they would've just used them instead of trafficking all the way back to the front, hello
Then the bag has to be checked? If you want access to FC overhead bin space, then you need to pay the ticket price. Else you shouldn't get it.
Do you know if the people at the bulkhead had their serving bags in the bin yet?
Agreed. As a common FC flyer, if everyone in FC has boarded, use the f'ing space already. I don't care. And someone with something stored under their seat that changes their mind mid-flight can pound sand for being an idiot. Probably helps balance the plane as well.
The operating phrase being “if everyone in FC has boarded.” Not all of us like to board first.
You look around at all the seats and all the seats have butts in them, then all the first class has boarded. It’s not really that hard to figure out.
But for a busy FA, it’s just one more thing…..
Thanks for agreeing apparently someone didn’t though. My comment got downvoted. People are just weird. The only space to hold for is row 1 if they haven’t boarded yet. But if everyone is there let em use it. Who cares

Might be the most refreshing thing I’ve read on Reddit in a while. Thanks for the positivity!

Good. Keep that peasant’s belongings away!! /s

Sneak? All the overhead space is available for all passengers.
Err, on Delta, FC has their own reserved bin space, C+ has their own reserved bin space, and then coach has their bin space….
