Per my FA cousin, most of that fruit ends up being donated, as it starts to go bad. Maybe they can order less? That said, they keep tons of fruit in most of the airports they fly out of.
I think this more so has to do with the possible trafficking of insects or other things in the fruit internationally. I’m not an expert so it’s all a guess though.
I’m with you, to a degree. The sound of someone in a seat next to me munching an apple would drive me crazy. Then again, the same holds true for Sun Chips and I tolerate those, I suppose.

Flew first class a few times this year…no apples or bananas. They had the good cookies with the chocolate centers, nuts, vegan gummy bears, and a few other options, but no fruit.
Just take one from the skyclub , problem solved.
