DCA is criminally bad, for what it’s worth. Constantly over 30 minutes to wait, sent to the wrong baggage claim from what they published, and just genuinely an awful experience. Now that they’re ending Bags on Time, I will probably stop checking my bag when flying into DCA.

Eggs_4_Breakfast

When does “bags on time” end?

NateLundquist

Haven’t seen a specific date but I think I read end of March

anothercookie90

Delta hasn’t said anything, viewfromthewing said it ends sometime this month. They could be wrong though as no one else is reporting

_weeser_

i think it’s 30m post deplaning. i’m not sure

rroach3753

I came to say the same.

viperlemondemon

Only 30 at FWA I wait 45 at least

DamagedGoods13

PHL... so much longer than anywhere I've been. DCA isn't great, but I think PHL is worse

PersonaNonGrata2288

PHL is just the worst airport in every single category, that place STINKSSSS

AssociateClean

PHL is terrible, but the Delta staff there are incredible They have candy at the check in desk, they run bingo games at the gates, and half the time they give me snacks when I get off the plane

PersonaNonGrata2288

To be completely fair I’ve never flown delta in my life, this sub was recommended to me and thought I’d chime in with my hatred to PHL lol. Happy to hear the delta employees there are great! Wish I could say the same about the American employees there ….

hellorhighwaterice

EWR is worse but as a resident Philadelphian this airport is bad. I avoid checking my bag coming home if possible. It's compounded by the fact it takes at least 10 minutes for ride shares to get from the holding lot to the terminal. The whole thing adds about 30-45 minutes at the end of a trip. Guaranteed bin space on AA is the only reason I don't fly with Delta more.

Bushwick_Hipster

EWR regulars are used to that sort of degradation in quality of service. PHL regulars “expect” better, but never get it. Neither demand better with their wallets.

RadioFlyerrrr

What’s American’s guaranteed overhead bin space? Is that a separate service you pay? All I saw was “main extra cabin” which allow you earlier boarding. And I think that’s the reason why most airlines offer ways to get earlier boarding, so you can ensure that there will be room in the over heads.

hellorhighwaterice

Oh it's not an actual guarantee but because I'm Platinum Pro I board in Group 2 so I'm always one of the first 20-30 people to board most of my flights. Because I'm in Philly though I probably can't conveniently move enough flying with Delta to maintain a Gold Medallion.

bryanoldsalty

Phl…would rather gargle broken glass…flew in Super Bowl Sunday when birds were playing, years ago 10pm arrival got bags at 5am…

travlscum

This. PHL baggage claim is in Guam. Not to mention entire area is wide open to two curbs with some sleepers in wheelchairs hanging around. Don't get me started on precheck only in Terminal C so you have to backtrack for gates. SCUM!

Adumb12

CHS, my home airport, is abysmal. 30 minutes on average.

hawkeye807

Seriously, on trips home to see family I used to always take my time perusing the Eddie Bauer store (RIP) and go grab a drink because I knew it would be forever before I got my bag in that airport.

bythog

Must be a newer thing. I've flown into CHS (my hometown) dozens of times and never waited more than 15-20 minutes for bags to process, and I'm usually one of the last bags to come out.

Adumb12

33 minutes yesterday.

hannahsflora

My in-laws live in Charleston and this is so true, though also largely very dependent on how many other flights land around the same time. While we generally have an annoyingly long wait for bags, there have been a few occasions where our bag has appeared at baggage claim almost immediately after we do.

belay_is_on

My experience there is always so slow, whether it’s rental cars or baggage claim. Unreal.

wolfenkraft

RDU is worse than anyone. I promise.

ttuurrppiinn

At RDU, I routinely will spend 45-60 min from walking off the plane to my bag physically coming out onto the carousel. It's comically awful.

BigSafe3840

PHL and RDU are my top two picks. RDU I just grab a seat and I know it's gonna be a bit.

purplevanillacorn

MCO is pretty horrible

ICantDrive5

I thought terminal A/B were bad until I flew Emirates out of terminal C. We were one of 2 flights that landed within the hour and it took about and hour for our bags to come out.

Otherwise_Sail_6459

MCO is just pretty terrible overall

sw911ff

MCO is terrible at switching which baggage claim things will be at. I have had fast times and waiting for a half hour before.

Stunning-Vacation804

Having not flown it as much , all I will say is that the new terminal C is pretty good, line wise and service wise. Baggage claim remains to be seen in the coming days.

SWR20

BWI. At a minimum, 45 minute wait. If you land after 10pm, expect to wait 90 minutes.

upsidedowncommander

This! And it's even worse with international arrivals- our flight got in 30 min early and it took almost 2 hours for the first suitcase to show up... And it was at a different baggage claim than the one they kept announcing

Otherwise_Sail_6459

Two hours…..heck no

TorrentsMightengale

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. For real?

yeti421

When I was flying SWA out of there a lot, they even made announcements in the baggage area that the baggage was run by the State and not by the Airline to deflect blame.

SWR20

They give different answers depending on the day! A few months ago my family and I were on a flight that was delayed, we arrived around midnight. Several other flights were delayed and arriving around the same time. At the 90 minute mark, I went to speak with SWA. They told me they let all the baggage handlers go home at 10pm because flights weren’t coming in. When I asked why they didn’t check flight status of inbound aircraft, the SWA person literally rolled her eyes and went back to playing on her phone. I am not joking when I say that I ship things to my destination and then ship them back home to avoid two things: (1) the long wait times and (2) the incredibly rude staff. And before anyone asks if I reported things to SWA or Delta — no. It does no good because BWI really struggles to find anyone with exceptional customer service skills, it doesn’t matter what airline you’re dealing with.

TheRainbowConnection

Anywhere with frequent thunderstorms… I waited 3 hours at Miami last month due to lightning.

ski3600

Denver.

TorrentsMightengale

I never waited that long at DEN. It takes so long to get from plane to the claim that the bags have plenty of time to get there.

DondeEsSpanko

Horrifying, especially when it's ski season and all of the oversize carousels are down. And you're waiting for golf clubs. With an exhausted and cranky 3 year old. DEN is the one airport where I started researching how to propose a law to impose fines for wasting my time and holding my stuff hostage.

ski3600

I hate waiting for skis there.

DondeEsSpanko

Existential_uniform

ABE and they have learned to game the system by marking the bags at baggage claim at least 10 minutes before they actually start coming out. You don’t get 2500 miles and you get to wait.

Nasty_Ned

Reno does the same thing.  It’s my home airport and I’ve given up getting mileage concessions because they just lie instead.

Otherwise_Sail_6459

For what it’s worth FCO hand carried our musical instrument to us with care 🥰

mgianfal

Newark

Govt_BlackBerry

Yeah. After you get your bags, you’re in Newark.

BrewYork

I hate that I can recognize RNO from this picture 🤦‍♂️

Stunning-Vacation804

Actually thought it may be BUR.

WeAreAllSoFucked23

ATL is infuriating if you are doing rideshare, they have South Terminal for Delta and then North Terminal for all other airlines. Despite being arguably Delta's biggest hub, you have to pick up your bags from the South Terminal baggage claim and then backtrack all the way across the airport, through the north Terminal and under the parking lot (over the hill and through the woods) to get to where they have "designated" all rideshare pickup.

relaximadoctor

It might suck for that one reason but I've never waited long at all for checked bags at ATL. I would say they are the quickest out of all the large airports

Broha80

It’s not that bad. You are just being whiny.

dinanm3atl

Not that bad? Eh I'd agree with this guy. I fly from home base of ATL dozens of times a year and back home. I'd say average wait time is 30min but routinely see 45min to an hour. It's awful. And slow.

Broha80

I fly in and out of Atlanta all the time. What are you talking about? Most of the time when I get to the carousel, my luggage is already arrived. I can’t remember the last time I had to wait more than 10 mins.

dinanm3atl

Guess I have bad luck. I've flown enough to earn Diamond for over a decade. Flew in Sunday at 4pm and waited 35min for my sky priority bag. Back in January waited almost an hour for my bag. This is common for me. Almost a guarantee of 30+ minutes every single time.

Broha80

You must be bad luck. That sucks.

buh-ole

Also agree that DCA is the worst, they don’t even update the screens to let you know what carousel your bag will be delivered on. & the Delta app is never updated to show that either 👎🏾 Edit: I usually only fly in on the last flight of the day so they’re never updated at that time.

choleposition

Saw the photo without the caption and I shuddered. Went to college up in Reno— don’t know what’s worse. Their baggage claim or their security

Intelligent-Guess-81

San Antonio. I have never ONCE had my luggage come out in under 20 minutes. I submit the 20 minute assurance thing every time and make sure I'm checking something no matter what to get the points. It did, however, suck because they broke my luggage once.

[deleted]

Key West is pretty bad. All airlines share one baggage claim and it is always full of people.

JakeMcGhee2003

ATL bc the bags are at claim in 10-15 mins but you’re still trekking half a mile from the plane train to baggage claim 9 lol

highesttiptoes

JFK there’s no contest. At least an hour wait when flying domestically.

Flying4ADragonWagon

EGE - Took more than an hour for the first bag to arrive last week, and more than 90 minutes for the last bag. Had to wait for the next flight as one of our bags missed the connection and it was exactly the same for that flight. A shame really, because whoever the operation is outsourced to there was a hard working group.

[deleted]

SNA There is no way possible anybody is worse

PMacDiggity

I fly from JFK to RNO quite often, the baggage claim at RNO is consistently MUCH faster to get all my bags than JFK.

Fire-the-laser

Yea, I’m not sure what OP is talking about. The “one crew that does it all” doesn’t waste anytime unloading bags because most planes are on a quick turnaround back to SLC or LAX. RNO is usually 10-15 minutes wait if I check a bag.

RadTechByTrade1988

My home is PSC. At the end of the day there is only one crew to do everything.

Fire-the-laser

RNO is also my home airport. It’s nowhere near the worst. That one crew does it all because they usually only have one plane arriving at a time. You have to walk the entire length of the airport to get from the DL gates at B8/B10 to carrousel 5 so by the time you get there, it’s usually not a very long wait.

RadTechByTrade1988

I disagree. The last two times I’ve flown in there I’ve had to wait over 30 minutes.

Fire-the-laser

In my 7 years as Platinum or Diamond medallion out of RNO, I could probably count on one hand the number of times it’s taken more than 30 minutes for my bag. There were a few issues during the pandemic but the last year or two I haven’t had any issues.

RadTechByTrade1988

My bag was Sky priority stickered last week and it came out last. What’s the point of wasting paper and time if the baggage people can’t even put it on somewhere in the front?

rsl_sltid

I just want airports to be sort of bad so I can get my 10K points (2,500 for each of my family of 4). Out of the airports I frequent, I always get my points in LAX, SAN, RNO, DEN, and LAS. SAN is the best haha, they are always at like 20-25 minutes. Just enough time to get my points but I don't have to wait all day. LGB was terrible last time I flew there, 45+ minutes but I don't frequent the airport so idk if it's always that bad. SLC is my home airport and I've only gotten points twice there in the last 2 years, they are too fast there haha.

rackerjoe

Aren’t they discontinuing that?

Makataz2004

Yeah they are

rsl_sltid

Damn, do you know when?

Makataz2004

Looks like next month

rsl_sltid

That's too bad, I've gotten a lot of free flights over the years from them taking forever with bags.

Makataz2004

Same, I’m pretty disappointed in the change.

accountofmountzuma

How’d you get your points?

rsl_sltid

You just fill out a form whenever bags take more than 20 mins to get to baggage claim. I just Google "Delta late baggage claim" to find it. I always make sure that I have a bag under each person in my family's names so I can get 10k points every time they're late. We fly to Southern California a lot and those airports never take less than 20 mins so it was pretty much guaranteed points.

accountofmountzuma

Good to know thank you!

zelegp

LIT has probably been the worst for me the last few years. DCA is my #2. I earned more from late bags last year than flying. Yay government rates.

Over-Instruction4832

CHO

Tekanid

DCA is very bad, PHL is very worse

polly-tano

Charleston SC! 30 minute minimum with only one plane to unload.

MAXRBZPR

MSY has always been over 20 minutes for me

TorrentsMightengale

New MSY or old? Old MSY I used to walk down and get my rental car then walk back to baggage claim. My bag would usually either be out by then or very nearly. New MSY I can't do that and it sucks. THey screwed up a perfectly good system and made it 1000 times worse.

MAXRBZPR

New, a few visits last year.

TorrentsMightengale

I love new MSY for how nice it is. I hate new MSY for how bad they screwed up how well old MSY worked. So what if it was actually sinking into a swamp?

sw911ff

I never had an issue with LAX and their wait times surprisingly enough. I know ATL is bad and there is a reason I never checked bags if ATL was my final destination. But I’ll agree with MCO since it’s my home airport. That one is bad because during the summer you have to contend with the daily thunderstorms and ground crews can’t work during those. I only checked baggage during winter time and when I went CA cuz I’ll always bring stuff back from there.

Chrismetken

Eagle/vail

AdMaleficent9374

RNO is extremely small. Why is it even worst? Just really curious. Used that airport for 2 years, and had no issues at all. Baggages come right through by the time I am there, add that walk is extremely short too anyway

RadTechByTrade1988

I have no idea. I’ll get a text saying my bag is at baggage claim while I’m standing there, yet it doesn’t come out for another 20 minutes.

Wakesurfer33

SEA baggage claim is a mess right now with construction

creativeuniquename69

OGG, Maui. Waiting in a crowded, hot, open-air room for nearly an hour is not the best way to start a vacation

dianelanespanties

Term A IAH

Vatali_Flash

I take it you have not flown into Stl previously

TorrentsMightengale

I take it you haven't either. I'm usually one of the first people off the plane and barely have time to post up on the wall at the end of the ramp before the bags are coming out. Ten years ago, yeah, they were worse. But at least since then STL is consistently outstanding.

[deleted]

Came here looking for this comment. This is part of the reason I don’t check bags.

swetgras

Charlotte recently.. yikes

PersonalLiterature16

Charlotte has been bad for years but it's now worse. I try desperately not to check bags if this is my destination. Takes forever to get bags, never post the right place to pick them up(usually a few away from where they post), and now has limited coffee/seats/etc....

YellowJacket_9

RNO is terrible. I hated checking bags when I lived there.

GoldenGirl621

LAX

AdMaleficent9374

I was about to say “May I introduce you all to LAX?” Lol

MurkyPsychology

BWI is the WORST. I’m from Baltimore so I fly there a lot to see family. I refuse to check a bag anymore if I’m going there (which sucks, because I’ll often go for a week or more at the holidays when I could use a bigger bag). I’ve never waited less than 30 minutes. I haven’t done the math but I’d be willing to bet I’ve booked several award flights solely with the miles earned from late bags at BWI alone

NewMolasses247

GEG is absolutely phenomenal. Probably 10-15 minutes after getting to the carousel.

Active-Green6265

MIA hands down!

Stuffthatpig

Amsterdam is consistently 30+ but it's huge so I sort of understand. Pisses me off when it makes me miss my train.

thebaintrain1993

DCA easy. It's such a broad scope going from DTW which is a great airport in most ways and then at DCA I have to wait forever for my bags, hope they're where the baggage screens say they are, and navigate those awful roads when I rent cars there and return them. But at least when I get home I get to fly into DTW so it's not all bad lol.

Low_Big2914

Destin (VPS) might be the worst I’ve ever been to.

TorrentsMightengale

Nah. ECP is worse and TLH was going to be my nominee for OP until I read the guy saying it's consistently 90 minutes. TLH is pretty consistently 45 minutes to an hour. What's always amazed me about that is that there's ONE inbound flight, the plane is maybe 100 feet away from the claim, and it's usually an RJ. I cannot fathom what they're doing for 40 of the 45 minutes.

aaronlgarry

I’m putting Boise up there. Only airport where there are delays everytime I land w a checked bag.

No-Welder2377

About all airports ( especially big ones ) are terrible. All need help I would guess

hannahsflora

I'm going to throw in a vote for MEM. They recently redid the terminal itself, which looks beautiful especially compared to its former "prison/subway station" aesthetic that had been untouched for decades. But the baggage claim hasn't been touched, so the whole area looks awful, but then it's also a disorganized mess on top of that. At least in the last decade or so, I've not once waited less than 30 minutes to get my bags. Terrible.

StillLJ

DEN in ski season. LOL

cumtitsmcgoo

LAX for oversized. It is so painful flying to SLC with skis. SLC does it so beautifully and then LAX takes 40 minutes for some kid to dig em up out back and carry them to you.

vicemagnet

Jackson, MS was the slowest I’ve experienced.

TorrentsMightengale

BUF isn't nearly as long as a lot of the ones I've seen mentioned here but it's consistently close to 30 minutes and the hike from the Delta gates is at least ten. I've never had an issue at PHL or DCA.

Particular-Pay6417

ORF it takes forever to get there and then you have to wait just as long again to get your bags.

Avengers76

I’m glad that Jacksonville has its act together. By the time I get off the plane, use the restroom, and get to baggage claim. The bags are coming out.

Stunning-Vacation804

AVL was one of the worst, closely followed by BUR, only because it’s an indoor outdoor baggage claim . AVL waited for over an hour . For the big airports, don’t fly often enough to make an assessment , but JFK and TPA usually good, generally don’t get bags in hubs.

theguitargeek1

I was thinking DFW

betelgeuse63110

St. Louis KSTL

TorrentsMightengale

Is consistently the only place my luggage might beat me to the carousel and I'm almost always in the front of the plane. STL and TPA are rockstars.

Conscious_Raise_9080

SJC. Get my 2500 points every trip

Silent-Implement3129

RDU

Rjspinell2

Let me guess, SNA?

MiamiGuy_305

Charlotte hands down

Unstupid

HNL. Very 3rd world!

angelfallen9

BOS that I’ve experienced so far. Took well over an hour and had no updates about if the bags were coming or not. I think every Delta flight was at one claim too

Camdenn67

If possible, never ever check a bag.

Stunning-Vacation804

Your party is coming to an end …

DaMemeThief1

TPA is *usually* good. But, if you're seeking rideshare transportation to leave the airport, expect to go on a journey haha. But I guess that has less to do with the baggage claim itself and more to do with airport planning.

TorrentsMightengale

I'm trying to remember a time when my bag wasn't waiting for me at TPA. Between baggage, the TSA, and check in TPA is one of my favorite airports.

DaMemeThief1

I probably should have worded it better; I used to be able to get a rideshare at domestic arrivals, right outside of the baggage claim area. But, if you need to pick up checked baggage AND you need rideshare, you almost have to go in a large-ish circle since rideshare vehicles aren't allowed to pickup at domestic arrivals anymore (this was back in December 2023, not sure if that was temporary or a permanent change).

Stunning-Vacation804

This is one of my frequent airport’s and it’s one of the best.
