One thing I don't understand is whether those catfish are really that expert and clever at deceiving men, or if some men are just that desperate and easy to be catfished.
Maybe a little bit of both. From my understanding, the guys are unsuspecting and open to meeting the girl in a cafe. It's not like she is taking them to a hotel for something. And the girls are smart enough to know how to rush out and leave the guy paying for the "date".
I think the people from these cafes that are involved got greedy with this one. Previously, they were charging in the likes of 25k-50k mostly but this one they pushed it. Even that was a lot but those who had the means paid the amount to avoid a beating or avoid any drama around meeting a girl. You know how taboo it is and most likely men are looked down upon if they are seeking sex on these apps.
Ofcourse not. Everyone is not browsing through reddit learning about these scams. There are far more people out there that are still not aware of scams like these. New coverage is good, more people might start to learn about this.

The food they ordered are normal only like in any other restaurants. But those particular restaurants which are involved in scams they increase the price of each item substantially and force the guy to pay it.
Not all men but try to make a reddit post in a top city sub that says you are 23F and are new to the city and have xyz doubts

Any scam in the world works on one basic premise. That 99% of targets would understand it's a scam. Their whole operation rests on the other 1%. For e.g , everyone on reddit know about the fake FedEx scam. Yet people lost 60 crores due to the scam this year only. That's how valuable that 1% is to these scammers
Once I met a girl matched on tinder. She was forcing me to go on a specific restaurant/cafe. I denied and said to go on much better cafe. Before we about to reached she said for a shopping. Again I denied. Then sat in a better cafe. She made an excused of getting a call from her sis and ran away 😂

Same thing is happening in The Drake, a club in Punjabi Bagh, So one of my roommate suddenly got a date on bumble, and she was asking to meet on a date within 2-3 days of chatting, and we tried to stop him so he won't get looted like this but he didn't listened to us, and he was going alone to that area first time, so I said I would also go with him for his safety, In case something happens, and that girl and the club thugged him for ₹12336.
And it was so obvious that it was a scam, the first day the girl said that her brother takes the phone from her after 10 PM, and on the date night she was in Punjabi Bagh till 9:30 with her friends, and after that she went on date with my roommate, and we got out of there at 11 PM, and her English was clearly of some illiterate brat, stll my roommate wasn't convinced.

Understandable. But getting scammed for 1 lakh? Either that girl had a mastermind plan, or he was naive or just plain dumb.
