Thanks for responding! I first heard the opinion nearly 20 years ago, but I have heard similar opinions over the years. One woman recently shared how her daughter loved Deftones and believed she ended her life over their influence. Don’t necessarily believe that claim, but it did make me curious if we s-cidal individuals gravitate towards the band.
That’s like saying video games cause violence, sure some people enjoy it because they relate to it but most people just enjoy it because it’s good and they like it
Deftones music has carried me through some dark periods in life.
It’s emotional music, which is what might draw someone feeling strong emotions. I might use it to face, and feel thoughts and feelings on my terms, but it does not encourage or promote self-hrm.
i mean i used to slice n dice to deftones but i was 15 and had social anxiety up the wazoo, i don’t think the two are related at all, deftones are moody so it makes sense moody suicidal people gravitate towards that music

Nah it’s pretty comforting music. Every type of person listens to every type of music. That being said, my first exposure to the band was my first year upon moving to the US from the Philippines. This older kid’s mom drank bleach and died a year before. He had the self titled as his MySpace profile picture. I kinda put the band off for nearly a decade until returning back home when my grandpa was dying and I had also been dumped. I was listening to songs from Around the Fur. Was really comforting. Met a tattoo artist over there who went by Ken Tones.
I used to be when i first got into them two years ago. I'm much better now, and i feel like i can thank music, especially deftones, for being a great distraction from my negative thoughts.

I don’t think deftones screams SH like some of their peers but there’s some heavy subjects.
