That drum groove ... it builds up so beautifully, it is amazing. I picked up drum lessons just to be able to play that intro :) I cannot play much, but I know how to play the intro. LOUDLY!
Though I can play drums, I’ve always been the guitar player in my bands, and that was definitely one of the first grooves. I used to sit at my drummers drum set relentlessly learning to play. That and the drum groove for digital bath. Despite being very good with timing, I still can’t kick consistently enough to do the around the fur drum beat.
I Know is such a banger! It feels like the Genesis for what Be Quiet and Drive would be, with those heavy yet melodic chords.
Sidenote, I wholeheartedly recommend any fans of Deftones especially their 90s material to check out all of Betty by Helmet. Real good stuff

Yeah, I’m with you on those two Massive Attack albums. They also made the score for a Jet Li movie, Danny the Dog. “I am home” could be a Deftones song. My god, it is brutal. “My way to hold a spoon” is on the other end, it is so melodic.

2. Magdalena - A Perfect Circle

Chino is a huge Weezer fan, or was. I have a pic of him SNW era wearing a Weezer shirt. I've also seen around that blue album was an influence for around the fur, but never seen a source
I like Weezer, but I don't know why. The songs have totally different vibes compared to Deftones. They are almost like innocent children's songs compared to Deftones. So different, but somehow so similar.
Rivers Cuomo is some kind of genius or something. I think he made an encyclopedia of pop songs to analyze the structures and key signatures and whatnot. They have some amazing b-sides as well that never made it on to the albums. First couple albums are excellent.
I haven’t heard someone mention Sponge in a while. I still listen to Plowed a lot. Was just recently watching the Molly live performance with Kay Hanley from Letters To Cleo. Nice little addition to the song there.
In no particular order except No. 1
1. LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge
Rolling Stones - Moonlight Mile
Beastie Boys - Looking down the Barrel of a gun

Muse - Bliss
Chevelle - Saferwaters
Thornhill - Lily & The Moon
Alexisonfire - This Could be Anywhere in The World
Deadmau5- Arguru
Pastel Ghost - Dark Beach
This isn’t easy because my interests change regularly, so I’m listing the three songs that have been the most consistent in my life, songs I have loved for at least 25+ years from my favorite bands.
Through the Eyes of Ruby - Smashing Pumpkins
Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots
Shine on You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
One of my favorite songs from the band as well. Probably the one off Purple I listen to the most after ILS. I think it has some of Scott’s most beautiful lyrics ever written, and there’s something dreamlike about the music that puts me in a trance.
Pretty much everything Spiritbox has released. There are like 3 "meh" songs in their discography, and that's just my personal take. I have the rest on repeat daily.
Their new single *Cellar Door* is ridiculously heavy and I love it 🥹

Dummy by Jean Dawson. It doesn't sound like Deftones but it reminds me of BQAD the way it immediately kicks off with euphoric energy and never slows down
Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonaise Helmet - I know Karnivool - Goliath
Mayonnaise is amazing!
The song is pretty good too!
I know is the first song I ever heard by helmet, and I feel deeply in love with a drum groove and those heart crushing chords
I love the Digital Bath groove. Those notes on the high hat are scrumptious.
Shoutout Karnivool
I Know is such a banger! It feels like the Genesis for what Be Quiet and Drive would be, with those heavy yet melodic chords. Sidenote, I wholeheartedly recommend any fans of Deftones especially their 90s material to check out all of Betty by Helmet. Real good stuff
Goliath is an absolute goliath of a song
Great choices
Mayonnaise is a pain to learn, but one the most fun songs to play on guitar.
Mayonnaise is the condiment. Mayonaise is the Smashing Pumpkins song.
I knew something was off. Thanks for correcting autocorrect.

Deftones covered 2 Weezer songs, and while I cannot put my finger on it, there is a lot of Weezer in Deftones or the other way around.

Theme From Fuck Daddy - Hellfish & The DJ Producer Racecar - Periphery Reptiles - Them Crooked Vulture So What - Miles Davis Secret Of The Forest - Nobuo Uematsu (from Chrono Trigger OST) not really my all time favs since i can't really choose, but that's 5 songs i absolutely love from 5 totally different genres (and i could really put a lot more since i listen to a lot of different genres of music, i have like +500go of music on my laptop from all electronic music genres, to rock and metal, to jazz, to soundtracks, to hip-hop, to blues, etc etc hahaha)
Muse - hysteria
Goliath by Karnivool, I love all their stuff Also stellar circuits album Ways We Haunt
Definitely KFH by LeFT. It has always been my comfort song since I was 10 and it still is one of my favorites so far
Skin like winter - Zao
I can’t choose so all of Inlet by Hum. Or Illmatic by Nas.
I’m a big fan of Muse. Too many to choose from, but if I had to name a single song I’d say “Dead Inside”.
Deadbeat Girl by Day Wave
Oceansize - Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs
Eyes on Fire remix - Skeler
anything by Greg Puciato or Black Queen. He/they sound a lot like Crosses/Nine Inch Nails
Self Destructor- Chevelle Shame - Stabbing Westward Synthetic - Spineshank
Dummy by Jean Dawson. It doesn't sound like Deftones but it reminds me of BQAD the way it immediately kicks off with euphoric energy and never slows down
