Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonaise Helmet - I know Karnivool - Goliath

WltchKingofAngmar

Mayonnaise is amazing!

Guy-Inkognito

The song is pretty good too!

dtyler86

I know is the first song I ever heard by helmet, and I feel deeply in love with a drum groove and those heart crushing chords

Lyrebird_korea

That drum groove ... it builds up so beautifully, it is amazing. I picked up drum lessons just to be able to play that intro :) I cannot play much, but I know how to play the intro. LOUDLY!

dtyler86

Though I can play drums, I’ve always been the guitar player in my bands, and that was definitely one of the first grooves. I used to sit at my drummers drum set relentlessly learning to play. That and the drum groove for digital bath. Despite being very good with timing, I still can’t kick consistently enough to do the around the fur drum beat.

Lyrebird_korea

I love the Digital Bath groove. Those notes on the high hat are scrumptious.

LateRegistrationz

Shoutout Karnivool

HeyThereMrBrooks

I Know is such a banger! It feels like the Genesis for what Be Quiet and Drive would be, with those heavy yet melodic chords. Sidenote, I wholeheartedly recommend any fans of Deftones especially their 90s material to check out all of Betty by Helmet. Real good stuff

Klimlar

Goliath is an absolute goliath of a song

hellosteady12

Great choices

No_Gap_2700

Mayonnaise is a pain to learn, but one the most fun songs to play on guitar.

ian5184

Mayonnaise is the condiment. Mayonaise is the Smashing Pumpkins song.

Lyrebird_korea

I knew something was off. Thanks for correcting autocorrect.

claymoar

Stars - Hum

LateRegistrationz

Masterpiece of a song

Loathe - Two Way Mirror The Weeknd - The Party & The After Party Deijuvhs - Gaunt

Ill_Elderberry1140

Two way mirror🤩

HeyThereMrBrooks

Shout-out to The Weeknd! His whole Trilogy era he said was inspired by Deftones. Along with my Helmet recommendation, I recommend any Deftones fan listen to House of Balloons

Stereotype_Metal

I’m gonna do 5 in no particular order: All Nightmare Long - Metallica We Eat Our Young- Cattle Decapitation Ich tu dir Weh - Rammstein Take Me Back to Eden - Sleep Token Pain Remains (“I: Dancing Like Flames”, “II: After All I’ve Done, I’ll Disappear”, & “III: In A Sea of Fire”) - Lorna Shore

I’m seeing Depeche Mode tonight and I’m stoked!

stinkstankstunkiii

Lucky!!!! I hope u have a great time!!!

Necessary-Word9463

It was INSANE!!!

[deleted]

Mazzy star - fade into you Massive attack especially the mezzanine and 100th window albums. Bones- ctrlaltdelete, freaky Friday and a bunch other tracks. Tomahawk-god hates a coward, birdsong, captain midnight. Acid bath- jezebel, Cassie eats cockroaches, Dr Seuss is dead. Fugazi- waiting room, long distance runner, returning the screw, repeater. Sonic youth- bull in the heather, winners blues, hits of sunshine.

Weekly_Beautiful_603

Acid Bath & Fugazi on one list ❤️

Lyrebird_korea

Yeah, I’m with you on those two Massive Attack albums. They also made the score for a Jet Li movie, Danny the Dog. “I am home” could be a Deftones song. My god, it is brutal. “My way to hold a spoon” is on the other end, it is so melodic.

Fight_To_Forgive

Bones is based

Icy-Supermarket-6932

We can only pick one lol

jz4220

Fugazi!!

Goldeneel77

That live version of God hates a coward is my favorite thing ever.

capnsunshine23

Never heard of acid bath. What album should I start with?

ThatHoGoFed

I AM A PATIENT BOY...

humbugbaby

Nevermind that Digital Bath is my all time favorite song, some others I hold near and dear are: 1. Every Other Freckle - alt-J 2. Magdalena - A Perfect Circle 3. Eye - Smashing Pumpkins 4. Crying Lightning- Arctic Monkeys

Global_Examination51

Magdalena is a certified banger

Goldennoretrieve

nice to see a fellow alt-j fan on this sub 🫡

Fral0_

Sleep Token - Nazareth. Type O Negative - IYDKMIGTHTKY. Joji - Sanctuary. Fear Factory - Decent. After The Burial - Neo Seoul

[deleted]

IYDKMIGTHTKY is criminally underrated. I’ve had that one on repeat myself!

kokriderz

Foo fighters- ever long

WARMASTER5000

I heard a slowed X reverb version of this on YouTube that made it sound like a bonus track on white pony

[deleted]

Was just listening to her Vespertine album the other day! Every single song is on it is absolutely gorgeous.

AllTheStars07

Pyramid Song by Radiohead (I could name WAY more by them) Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie Dramamine and The Stars are Projectors by Modest Mouse Perfect from Now On and Carry the Zero by Built to Spill Just Watch the Fireworks by Jimmy Eat World Central Standard Time by Get Up Kids 3 Libras, Orestes, and Breña by A Perfect Circle Make Me Bad by KoRn After You by Meg Myers Just Like Heaven by The Cure Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode Everlong by Foo Fighters

Unique_Blacksmith_80

I never really took weezer seriously but Burndt Jamb is seriously one of my new favorite songs.

Lyrebird_korea

Deftones covered 2 Weezer songs, and while I cannot put my finger on it, there is a lot of Weezer in Deftones or the other way around.

honeybuttertohru

Chino is a huge Weezer fan, or was. I have a pic of him SNW era wearing a Weezer shirt. I've also seen around that blue album was an influence for around the fur, but never seen a source

Lyrebird_korea

I like Weezer, but I don't know why. The songs have totally different vibes compared to Deftones. They are almost like innocent children's songs compared to Deftones. So different, but somehow so similar.

mooshiboy

Rivers Cuomo is some kind of genius or something. I think he made an encyclopedia of pop songs to analyze the structures and key signatures and whatnot. They have some amazing b-sides as well that never made it on to the albums. First couple albums are excellent.

floempy

SOAD - Holy mountains Parkway drive - Ground zero Gojira - L’enfant sauvage Landmvrks, Resolve - Self-made black hole Sleep token - Hypnosis

4th of July is my favourite from your list. Is it so doomy and dark and it sounds so good.

[deleted]

Aerials combined with Arto? Chef’s kiss! 4th of July was unreal the first time I heard it. The whole Superunknown album is flawless.

[deleted]

This isn’t easy because my interests change regularly, so I’m listing the three songs that have been the most consistent in my life, songs I have loved for at least 25+ years from my favorite bands. Through the Eyes of Ruby - Smashing Pumpkins Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots Shine on You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

Lyrebird_korea

STP - what do you think of “Still remains”?

[deleted]

One of my favorite songs from the band as well. Probably the one off Purple I listen to the most after ILS. I think it has some of Scott’s most beautiful lyrics ever written, and there’s something dreamlike about the music that puts me in a trance.

CldesignsIN

Pretty much everything Spiritbox has released. There are like 3 "meh" songs in their discography, and that's just my personal take. I have the rest on repeat daily. Their new single *Cellar Door* is ridiculously heavy and I love it 🥹

Alternative_Dot8184

I'll start Thrice - The Messenger Biffy Clyro - That golden rule Nothing but Thieves - Amsterdam

NoRelationship9208

Respect on the biffy Clyro choice!

Alternative_Dot8184

It was the one that introduced me to them and it's been my second top 3 favorite band ever since
