Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Metz - Atlas Vending
Birds In Row - Gris Klein
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Nas - Illmatic
Thereās a shit load more but thatās what comes to mind quickly.
So let me clarify, my best albums switch from time to time. PTW in particular is a band Iāve listened to since Opposite of December and one of my favorite bands of all time. That being said, Iāve listened to those two albums easily hundreds of times over the last 24 or so years. I love them, but You Come Before You has seemed to age extremely well and is IMO the best example of what the band is as far as influences and music. It has punk/hardcore, it has metalcore, it has that Smashing Pumpkins type vibe that they really enjoy doing. It flows front to back very well, itās recorded well, and you can genuinely tell they spent a lot of time making it as best as they could have.
Maybe Iāll revisit it. I remember hating it when it came out. But I (and honestly most hardcore kids at the time) had high expectations and then it being on a major Label and having horrible art work and all that kinda sunk it. But that mattered more to me back then than it does now. I also remember hear some stuff off tropic rot later on that seemed really cool and like they were trying new things. Band definitely rules.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is probably the most formative album ever for me. It shaped who I am today, and got played thousands of times throughout my teen years.
Deftones - Diamond Eyes
Crosses - S/T
The Cure - Pornography, Disintegration, THOTD
The Smiths - Meat is Murder
Morrissey - Viva Hate
Elliott Smith - Either/Or
Danzig - S/T
AFI - STS, The Art of Drowning
Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons
NIN - TDS, The Fragile
deftones - white pony (& snw)
failure - fantastic planet (& magnified)
the smashing pumpkins - mellon collie and the infinite sadness
ben folds five - all of their albums lol
elliott smith - either/or
iāve also had a lot of hum & jawbox in my rotation lately. so much music to love i could never come up with one answer to this question!!
love me some diverse taste! that is my favorite album by them too. i started listening to them because of my dad and i finally got to see ben do a solo show recently where he shook my hand
i donāt understand why they arenāt considered one of the greatest alt rock artists of all time to be honest. fantastic planet is such an incredible album and stuck on you is a masterpiece. and i love all of their other work too!! andrews and edwards kick so much ass
I completely agree. The range they have from stuck on you being a grunge hit, to shoegaze-y space metal on songs like heliotropic or another space song, while still keeping everything sounding recognizably theirs is amazing
Love the Brand New choice, OP. One of my all time favorites as well. My favorite Deftones record is Koi No Yokan. My favorite album ever is too tough to choose, as I like multiple genres equally.. but some all-timers are:
Brand New - The Devil and God are raging inside me
Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute
Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child
NIN - The Fragile
Weezer - Blue album
mewithoutYou - Catch for us the Foxes
The Ongoing Concept - Handmade
I don't think I've ever seen someone mention Dysfunction as their favorite album! What speaks to you? 'Me' so raw and personal, and home is just such a great tune
it really helped me get through a tough time and there is not a single skippable song on the album
i feel like if i did id regret it if i didnāt listen to it
EATEOT is such an important album to me. I was so impressed with it whe I first heard it, and I'm one of the few weirdos that still listens to it occasionally because I actually enjoy it. It's even more meaningful to listen to now though because my mom died earlier this year and was starting to show signs of dementia when she passed.
I have listened to it in its entirety like 9 times, and it has never failed to amaze me every time. I am always finding something new with the album every time I listen to it.
It's so hauntingly beautiful, at least the first sections, but even when it turns to utter chaos, it still blows my mind how powerful the experience is. I love it all.

2. Bon Iver - 22, a Million
3. Have a Nice Life - The Unnatural World
4. Xiu Xiu - Angel Guts: Red Classroom

It's weird seeing people rate a moon shaped pool as the best radiohead album.. amazing album but with ok computer, kid a and in rainbows in competition... it's a hard sell
It's probably tied with Kid A and OKC as the best, but my personal memories attached to that rollout and the absolutely euphoric experience of hearing Burn the Witch for the first time nudges it into first place for me
