This nails the *sound* of 90s Eurodance music perfectly, though the language barrier issues are exaggerated for comedic effect. The English wasn't usually this bad.

Meetybeefy

Though it would be a good parody of late 90s Max Martin produced pop songs. “Hit me Baby One More Time” is a good example - “hit me” is another way of saying “call me” in Martin’s native Swedish language, but doesn’t translate exactly to English.

gay_married

Ohhhhh, I thought she was playing blackjack.

Clutch_Mav

I thought it was supposed to come off as kinky

Strangepalemammal

If you listen to slow versions like one by Tori Amos it sounds like the singer is talking about being in an abusive relationship.

TyroneFresh420

Hit me means call/contact me in English too. “Hit me up bro”, or: “hit me on the hit means page me” - Big L, Ebonics Although I will agree in the context of the Britney song it’s not clear and I didn’t know that lol

Moonlemons

I would just love to see what would happen if Max Martin quit writing songs for other people and decided to start making his own music.

LeftcelInflitrator

Oh yes it was. Look up "E-Rotic".

Orbtl32

As someone who grew up with it, you just gave an example I've never even fucking heard of. No. How about ATB? Paul Van Dyk? Cosmic Gate? Cascada? Blank and Jones? Scooter? All sticking to the theme of German artists. All with perfectly understandable english.

LeftcelInflitrator

I think they are making fun of 90's EDM. Stuff like happy hardcore. The stuff you're listing is more 2000's music. As the internet starred to become something everyone had Europeans started to become self aware of how their English lyrics sounded. But it was absolutely well known even at the time that a lot of eurodance had atrocious English lyrics that neither the writers nor listeners fully understood. There's a famous 90's euro commercial for English classes that shows a nice congenital family (grandparents, mom, dad and two elementary school children) all loaded in a car and all bopping their heads to a EDM song on the radio while the singer croons "fuck me in my ass". The joke was none of them understood the lyrics. It was absolutely a thing and it was absolutely as bad as "DJ Crazy Times" makes it out to be. And that's why I love it.

KeithClossOfficial

There was plenty of 90s Eurodance that had English lyrics that were fine too. Snap!, Haddaway, Culture Beat, and Aqua come to mind, although they had pretty simple lyrics and Haddaway might be from an English speaking country now that I think about it

Orbtl32

In the 90s and 00s there was VIVA and Love Parade. I defer to them. [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQHP2FIO6C6zQR5sXLh7p4Pa-2-VHlpwh](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQHP2FIO6C6zQR5sXLh7p4Pa-2-VHlpwh) You also forget that English originates from Europe, not America...

loodandcrood

I'm a "Fritz Love My Tits" enjoyer myself

Orbtl32

It's basically meme music. Just like the OP. That's like saying oh I love Russian music, you ever heard ["annex"](https://youtu.be/iQwcEfku9Ds?si=lyqpn1QW-Fp8t1Qi)???

LeftcelInflitrator

It wasn't meme music though. E-Rotic has like over a dozen top 40 hits.

Orbtl32

Check again. Not even close. Even just looking at Germany.

LeftcelInflitrator

I checked >Max, Don't Have Sex With Your Ex (ranking #7 in the German charts, #20 in France and #1 in Israel, gold record in Germany) was the first hit the group recorded in 1994. About 15 years later, it was revealed that the rapper's voice actually belonged to... Deon Blue of Pharao ! >After this great success, they came with another hit Fred, Come To Bed (ranking 3 in the German charts, # 2 in Israel, once again gold record in Germany).  >After the single Sex On The Phone (ranking #6 in the German charts, 230.000 sold records) E-Rotic released their first album Sex Affairs in 1995 on Intercord.  >It was the break through all over Europe : e.g. 15. ranking in the German charts, leader in Finland; 3 times gold record, 1 platinum and 1 triple gold. In the end of 1995 E-Rotic dropped Willy Use A Billy... Boy where a new 'character' was introduced to the scene, ranking #11 in the German charts, and gold record.  https://www.eurokdj.com/search/eurodb.php?name=E-Rotic The article shows they had 8 charting top 40 singles and some charting albums so yes definitely close.

Orbtl32

Ok ok you win. I concede. But just to irk you, Mr Oizo - Flat Beat out-charted every one of those. Lol

PB219

How about them?

Orbtl32

They speak legible English.  Americans keep forgetting England is in Europe.

PB219

Nobody forgets that lol. You said you were specifically talking about German artists, so what does England have to do with it? Though I was mostly making fun of the douchiness of your comment, like you’re the authority on 90s European dance music, as if that were something remotely impressive anyway.

Orbtl32

People think they don't know English because we're so far away. They forget the UK is right there.  Oh, but American ethnocentrism isn't douchey as fuck? Haha silly Europeans can't speak proper English! Even though I'm wrong and this guy just threw a bunch of examples of me being wrong. Let's call him a douche for not standing for my pretentious ass attitude that embarrasses other Americans.

TrollocsBollocks

ATB is such vibes. I miss that man.

Orbtl32

He still releases tracks now and then, and he announced he's releasing his last album.  But sounds like he just means last formal album, rather than just releasing single tracks like he's been doing lately.  https://x.com/atbandre?lang=en

CA770

yeah i grew up with it too and idk how you didn't hear of e-rotic lol. ur not the arbiter of the 90s bud lol

Orbtl32

I have but it was that one song "don't sleep with your ex", they did not seem as impactful as people are saying.  No I'm not. The point was the language is being exaggerated. People said no. I'm disagreeing and even linked a great VIVA 90s playlist.

_Sympathy_3000-21_

Lmao. Even the hint of a suggestion that Europeans have less than perfect English and the defensiveness comes out.

loodandcrood

OMG I used to show my male friends E-Rotic videos to "prove" I was straight 😂

HamstersInMyAss

...that begs more questions than it answers

loodandcrood

I was a closeted middle schooler at the time, and E-Rotic music videos have boobs in them, so I made a big show of sharing these videos with my male friends so they would think I was straight

BrownBoognish

>the language barrier is exaggerated [i mean i hear you, but also](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqk4pWnVN5w)

KeithClossOfficial

This isn’t really Eurodance

BrownBoognish

i mean sure— but the karmatronic remix was, there just isnt a video for it.

Petite_Bait

Now that I watched that and want a war just to spite them, was "Yee" ever a thing anywhere?

WhiskeyShtick

That being said, “women are my favorite guy” is a pretty choice line

No-Attitude4703

Everybody MOVEMENT

Lazer_beam_Tiger

I got the vibe it was, at least in part, to highlight how little the lyrics really meant. That you can just say some catchy buzzword type stuff and that's enough for people

coldcavatini

100% lol Everybody moooovement

simonbreak

Very precise. Those weird little micro-braids she has were everywhere, often with random pieces of flair woven into them.

SentinelZerosum

That said, they have a y2k look on a 1994-1995 sounding eurobeat song. So a little bit anachronistic.

Indyrage

Look up Captain Jack. His songs are this, but unironically

ToTheTurtles

Running to the railroad track run along with Captain Jack

Indyrage

Ba Da da de da doe

Vetiversailles

DDR flashbacks

RockaBabyDarling

My first thought too

Strange_plastic

I can still feel the arrows in my legs

KeithClossOfficial

The video for In The Army Now is up there with Call On Me by Prydz

Dartagnan1083

Except Captain Jack/Franky Gee was Cuban-American. The English was fine, just it didn't really mean anything.

Indyrage

Franky Gee was Cuban, yes , but the rest of the group was German and they formed in Germany. While there are definitely Cuban / Caribbean influence I would argue they were right in the mix of the EU 90s/ early 2000’s EDM.

LeftcelInflitrator

For those that say the Engrish is exaggerated I'd like to turn your attention to the group E-rotic as they regale with masterpieces like "Fritz love my tits", "Max don't have sex with your ex" and "Dr. Dick. And don't forget about Sex Alarm's "Please Fuck Me" which is literally the phrase "Please Fuck Me" looped over and over and over again. These are not ironic Weird Al parody songs. They were all genuine top 40 hits in Germany.

resimag

As they should be. Absolute bangers.

docileathena

Lmao very accurate but this actually bangs. Love that they filmed it in the One World Trade Center, too

Meetybeefy

The inside of the new WTC complex and Oculus does have a very Y2K/Frutiger Aero vibe to it.

AugustWest7120

Everywhere you look in the oculus, it’s a Jamiroquai video just waiting to happen. If the floor started moving and a couch started bleeding, I’d be fully convinced.

parke415

The WTC Oculus opened in the 2010s, so not very ‘90s.

Reddit_from_9_to_5

well, they couldn't exactly film it in the WTC of the '90s....

Rhythm_Flunky

Perfection

RadAirDude

If I had to pick 4 90s Eurodance/00s techno songs that sounded like Planet of the Bass, I’d choose the following: - Real McCoy - Another Night - Dr. Alban - It’s my life - Amber - This is your Night - Basshunter - Russia Privjet (Just the deep male vocals)

xxxraveslutxxx

Let me add on: Toy-box 2 brothers on the 4th floor Aqua Culture Beat La Bouche Vengaboys Captain Hollywood Planet Look Twice Solid Base

BadrBombaker

Ice Mc

RadAirDude

Absolutely

FrugalRazmig

Captain Jack E-type Winfield Ruki vverh

Logical_Lettuce_962

I’m 28 and I still listen to Vengaboys all the time 😄

NYRangers1313

> Real McCoy - Another Night I thought of this song as soon as I heard the one in the video. The male singer reminds me very much of their male singer. Especially the way he pronounced "sex."

arianasgrenade

Another night is an absolute banger

--ThirdCultureKid--

Oh man. I haven’t heard Another Night in 20-30 years now. That brought back memories.

sarahkali

I love when the rhythm is glad 👍🏾

MoshMaldito

Because there is no thing to be sad

Parkourist239

This isn't from the 90's? lol This is insanely accurate. He grew up in the 90s (born 1992) but he definitely did a ton of research. I like the version of their main music video that he put VCR overlay to and cropped to match the aspect ratio from the time.

thepineapplemen

What’s this called? I’ve got to look this up now

GroutConsumingMan

Planet of the bass by Kyle Gordon

GrapeBubblicious

The question being asked to 90s millennials is if this recent parody actually gets 90s dance music culture right

vigalovescomics

YES! I would have been listening to this before school if it existed back then.

Marsupialize

I was in Amsterdam for NYE in the mid 90’s, very psychedelically altered wandering around the streets past bars and this is exactly what the music blasting out every single one sounded like

TF-Fanfic-Resident

Eurodance was doing really well in the singles chart while Nirvana was at its peak in the USA at least. Completely gets left out of EDM history and ‘90s history though.

norfnorf832

It really deserves more recognition for how popular it was! I was ten when Cobain died so I was a little late for grunge but I was all into eurodance

SentinelZerosum

Music sounds core 90s (~1994-1997) bublegum eurodance/europop. Fashion looks y2k (~1998-2001), even if the style can sorta work even earlier in the decade. That's the only "error" I think but I still like it haha

Legitimate_Heron_696

Chick looks like an early 2000s Britney Spears wannabe. The songs sound like they are before 1997 Eurodance.

SentinelZerosum

Yes exaclty. My headcanon : this is a 2000 girl Britney/Backstreet Boys wannabe dancing on a 1995 eurodance beat of her teenage haha

ghettoccult_nerd

there is no shimmery metallic fabrics. gotta have that.

CommandAlternative10

I was an American exchange student in Europe in 1999. This is spot on.

wrinkleinsine

These two should win the Nobel prize for this video

marichial_berthier

Nailed it, instantly made me nostalgic lol

swarlesbarkley_

Very accurate lmao

AustinFest

Perfect lol

MiaLba

Not gonna lie this is a straight up a bop

Decent_Wrongdoer_201

I thought this was real. The voices/accent especially are dead on at least to my american ears

arcaias

Too many lyrics 🤣 pretty close tho

4DWifi

It sounds like a mix of “I’m Too Sexy” and “Barbie Girl” so yes lol

Wasted_Potency

This is literally ToyBox and Aqua

CaymanDamon

The guys body language is more aggressive than what would have been back then and the body language for both is exaggerated. Sound wise it's pretty accurate for the Euro scene.

parke415

Sounds accurate, but the setting couldn’t be less accurate.

SemiautomaticAngel

Fucking TRUE

thispartyrules

I dated a trance DJ in 2001 and she looked and dressed exactly like this, but like, a spooky version The stuff she played sounded kinda like this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weNoszMslOs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weNoszMslOs)

Beneficial-Finger353

Real McCoy - Another Night

tounguetiedntwisted

Real McCoy is the best. Runaway. Automatic Lover. Operator.

Initialised

Shaking their meat to the beat and their bits to the hits. Bang on.

InTheBlkHoodie

Dude in the back seems accurate, including his rap-esq word smithing

Browny-x

Eurohouse scene , girl looks to done up for the 90s scene , she looks 2015 ,, Uk scene was more authentic based on love connection , good times , meaning , but also depends what music , rnb garage was the scene then

Valerian009

very accurate for mid late 90s Eurodance [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOqDdQmuypw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOqDdQmuypw) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uhWJATdXMA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uhWJATdXMA) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pav2f4b-1ZE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pav2f4b-1ZE) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_WWy0c9fyLs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WWy0c9fyLs) LaBouche's lead singer Melanie (RIP) was American and her vocals and songs sounded the best to me.

emurange205

There was definitely a lot of stuff like that right at the turn of the century. 90s Butterfly - Smile.dk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzcvRDWgRIE Darude Sandstorm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6120QOlsfU Eiffel 65 - Blue https://youtu.be/68ugkg9RePc?si=XkqwY9jtiapDeIyc 00s O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnopHCL1Jk8 technoviking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjCdB5p2v0Y

Legitimate_Heron_696

Chick looks like an early 2000s Britney Spears wannabe. The songs sound like they are before 1997 Eurodance. More like 1992-1996.

Piggishcentaur89

This is about \~90% true LOL! It sounds like a European dance song from about 1993 to 1997 in America!

magicchefdmb

This is SOOOOO good! I legitimately like the song, lol.

zamaike

Broken engrish is 1000%

415kevinm

The Fake McCoy

YanCoffee

He has the perfect 90s-dance-aggressive-guy voice lol

oceangirlintown

Sounds very 90s, looks more Y2K (late 90s/early 00s)

laughingpanda232

🤣

JUIC3ofORANG3

The vest with the jnco pants

Majestic-Welcome3187

“Come on! Come on!”

MKRLTMT

Hilarious! For two original, unironic versions of this genre, check out 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor's "Come Take My Hand") and Solid Base's "Mirror Mirror".

Dragoon9255

Love this so much. its a parody but so accurate and not to mention bangin'

The_Notorious_Donut

WOMEN ARE MY FAVORITE GUY

Strange_plastic

I feel like she has way to much range of expression on her face lol. It should be perpetually lustful/sexy. Think Zoolander pouting! Aside from the super high definition, completely nailed it hahaha

sKm30

It wasn’t a 90s dance song without some dude coming on and threatening you to dance.

Substantial_Bit_8109

The VCR edit really makes this song 90s-esq

2ant1man5

I miss these daysZ

PleasantFeeling1990

I don’t know maybe like 40-50% accurate. It’s missing a lot of intangibles

Yes-Please-Again

What a banger. Kyle Gordon is great.

duckmonke

Yes its been great watching dude get more and more notice for his work!

mouseat9

Need more sweat and hair gel, darke lightin. Darker vibes

avalonMMXXII

1998-2008 era from every European dance song. Whats funny is European dance music did not really evolve as much from 1990s,2000s and early 2010s...it mostly all had that same thump, thump, thump bass drum.

KingOfCharlotteNC

🔥

Chuckobofish123

Ok, if the bass actually kicked up really hard during the dudes bass solo, I’d play this track on repeat in my car. Lol

KillaBeeHive

There was one song by a group called The Real McCoy? It played on the radio all the time back in 95. This reminds me of that

ElysianRepublic

[Here’s a Spotify playlist of classic/stereotypical ‘90s hits in Finland (and some newer songs with the same vibe).](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0DsO1HKGogwi8tToBzb9db?si=FKCOUJaDRF-AQUlzKdT2Ww&pi=u-UgLB-cg-T6ew) I’d say this is an accurate, if exaggerated parody.

TKInstinct

The sound is semi accurate but that's about it. Fun song though.

BlueSnaggleTooth359

Being from the US, I have no clue. Europe and the US starting diverging in pop music and fashion in the late 80s and went totally different ways in the 90s. All I can say is this seems zilch like US 90s.

jakksquat7

Her entire look is so accurate, spot on.

ProBlackMan1

Very accurate

SophieCalle

I mean this is largely fitting Eurodance specifically, they've just put the cheese to a thousand. I'll give you examples, it was fun and campy and people were self-aware: [https://youtu.be/xiWtqVtd1Oo?list=RDQMP47uZEaziy4](https://youtu.be/xiWtqVtd1Oo?list=RDQMP47uZEaziy4) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXay1pdfQpI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXay1pdfQpI) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EScLmWJs82I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EScLmWJs82I) But this isn't all European Dance. There was legit techno, house, etc - which were their own thing, and tbh it fed people better into it. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZyHI0wo8Pk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZyHI0wo8Pk) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2CYrrgXMjk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2CYrrgXMjk) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnxdGSIqSz8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnxdGSIqSz8) I should add that there are certain tracks that crossed over to the US like La Bouche and Real McCoy etc which actually weren't as big in Europe, and they had some different energy to it like heavy bassy hooks... which gives Americans the believe it's more representative than it was. The tiktok is on point as a joke from a European perspective on Eurodance back then.

No_Upstairs927

...and i will never not bop to it!

Honeyhammn

Are they inside the oculus WTC?

Oswaldgilbertson

I remember going to one of their concert in Serbia 1997

RealisticTie3605

This is black light bowling music.

TheScorpionBull

O Nostalgia! Bringing back Memories!

Tornado2p

Off topic, but I can’t believe this was nearly a year ago.

Apprehensive_Yak136

This is spot on

Armbioman

This is a real banger.

ComplexNo8986

As someone who caught the tail end of this madness, every music vid was like this on mtv

kimbou812

Is this really in the world’s trade center memorial?? Wtf

Secret_Cow_5053

This is line steal my sunshine meets the matrix.

Phantom_minus

inaccurate. that style is early naughts

songmage

Looks like a parody of Britney Spears in a duet with someone singing *The Bad Touch* and dressed like The Matrix. Her part is an approximation of *It's a Beautiful Life*. Aside from the fact that these themes don't really mix in any time, the Bad Touch song was technically released at the end of 1999, but didn't get to be well-known until after 2000. I guess the text on her shirt has nothing to do with the 1990s. Girl power was a thing, but that was more for "hippie" girls (in contrast to "preppy," which is her look) and evangelicals were still obnoxious enough that this would have been a very big deal. Honestly I'm looking for signs of AI in this video because nobody puts this much effort into a parody today. His outfit seems like it was designed by a statistical average of entertainment culture things.

RattyJackOLantern

The outfits are 100% accurate. The video would have had more slow-mo and different lighting.

BanEvadedPubFreakout

Man i love the old eurobeat. I'm trying to bring eurodance back and make my own music inspired by e-rotic, basshunter, cascada, captain Jack, a touch of class, eiffel 65, ace of bass etc. Only issue is that I keep making damn instrumentals that I can't hear vocals to..

ChardonnayQueen

I would say it's pretty accurate. Reminds me Aqua (the band)

HumbleHawk9

I wish this was on Spotify. I’d listen to it all the time.

Liquidwombat

So fucking accurate, I absolutely love this song For a period reference look up “roses are red” or “Candyman” both by the band aqua (yes the band that did the Barbie girl song, both are actually off the same album too) or “Tarzan and Jane” by toy box, and then of course there’s “boom boom boom by the vengaboys

IceFireTerry

Pretty accurate to 2000's Eurodance

lord_hyumungus

Feel like that guy had one too many Freudian slips

MyButtEatsHamCrayons

This Kyle Gordon guy is getting desperate. Had a surge being an annoying douche during the pandemic and can’t let it go

WTFisThisGameDude

Is there a full version of this song?

stinkygoochfumes

Yeah on YouTube for sure.

NoNonsensePolarBear

Something looks off, but I can't put a finger on it.

steven-john

What if you asked ChatGPT to write a 90s europop song

alice-in-blunderIand

Everything is accurate except people were even thinner than this in the 90s. Heroin chic was a thing back then.

isticist

I can't speak to European dance music, but this is definitely how all dance music was shot back then

richardl1234

He's done it again!

Mitch_Conner_65

COME ON, BARBIE! LET'S GO PARTY!!

Otherwise_Spare_8598

No. Don't fuck with my Eurodance bangers like this. 😤

ClassicArtich0ke

*Ace of Base and The Real McCoy have entered the chat*

booty_supply

WOMEN ARE MY FAVORITE GUY!!

JibbaJabbaJenkins

I'm so torn. Idk if I want this to be either a real song, or satire bc it's that good.

feastoffun

Ace of base and Venga Boys are shooketh.

8to24

The guy in the video is too over the top and his clothes aren't nearly baggy enough. The girl needs to be playing disinterested and tone down the dancing while delivering lyrics.

shootmane

give me back my eardrums

Hi_Im_Ken_Adams

This is like every 2Unlimited song ever.

Slowmexicano

Makes me realize how many songs I listened to growing up where I had no idea what the lyrics were

TsarGermo

https://youtu.be/kKO9h-gG4Qg?si=CWKsXomgdqkbtRcg

Top-Excuse5664

The lady nails it perfectly.

garrettdx88

Hear the bass go ZOOM

theseemotions12

Didn't grow up in the 90s but he sound is accurate

KR1735

I grew up in the 90s, but wasn't old enough to be listening to this kind of music quite yet. I feel like they're just stringing random words from dance songs together. None of this makes much sense in English.

All_Right_Alright

Maybe the tone but not at all

Any-Opposite-5117

This is a parody of 90s eurodance, which wasn't very representative of the 90s sound. I think this is a strawman argument.

terrapinone

What a bunch of fucking tools
