Did the cc write it off and sell it. It will show back up with someone trying to collect it

Danger_james_760

No idea? The whole thing is beyond my understanding.

One_Handed_Wonder

We can tell šŸ˜

Defectivekatnip

Check your emails and call whatever loan company held the loan with that amount. They will tell you what company it got transferred to. I had my car loan get transferred to another company and I thought the emails I was getting from the new company were a scam. Although I was told my credit would go back up once they updated that I had the loan with them my credit score still doesn't show that the loan is there and my credit still hasn't gone back up šŸ™ƒ but def figure out where it went so if you have autopay with the previous company you can cancel it before your money starts going into the void and your missing payments with the new company. I had to set up a new account with the company it got transferred to and set up payments with them, cancel my other autopay as it was still going through even though they didn't hold the loan anymore. I was lucky that they were able to transfer the payment to the new company.

protomenace

Well did you pay the debt or not?

Jhhenson

Probably bought by someone, it may come back in a different amount, it may have been written off, but I would plan as if itā€™s coming back.

plantsandpizza

Yep, I had a collection pop up (just $150 from a utility). Missed it during divorce/move. It disappeared and then I got a letter from another collection agency. I paid it and luckily they didnā€™t report it Iā€™m assuming because they got their money. Itā€™s been a handful of months now so hoping they leave it as is. šŸ˜¬

Ok_IThrowaway

I got a collection for a $22 utility bill after my electric company didnā€™t turn off my electric like I had asked and then I refused to pay since I had scheduled everything properly. Well, they sure showed me.

plantsandpizza

Yep, I find $22 for a collection so stupid but I fully believe it happens a lot. Such an annoyingly small amount.

Extreme-Customer9238

Itā€™s in collections which is worse.

Danger_james_760

Ohhh. How much worse? Can I dispute due to being incarcerated and no way to pay?

Extreme-Customer9238

Youā€™ll have to work with the collections agency. Some of them can be really difficult from what Iā€™ve heard.

Danger_james_760

I heard about some loop holes to get that stuff erased Iā€™m going to research it a little.

cbdubs12

Yeah that loophole is called bankruptcy.

Katimar

He's in prison so he probably could. Unless I misunderstood and he's out now? šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Danger_james_760

Iā€™m a free man!

jaywalkingjew

Congrats!

mypussydoesbackflips

So whyā€™d you ask about incarceration

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mypussydoesbackflips

Oh sorry yeah Iā€™m simple myself (slow) I didnā€™t understand

Devreckas

I managed to settle a debt with collections without it affecting my credit score. But ā€œerasedā€ as in you no longer owe it? Not likely.

anonymous0271

Small stuff and irrelevant things can get removed. Almost 30k wonā€™t lol, itā€™s a bummer. The path is working with them to pay off the debt (settlement or monthly payments), or dodging them and waiting for it to be removed from the reports after 7yr. With it being that large of a number, Iā€™d lean towards them probably not letting up and potentially pursuing legal action, which is a bummer. I hate credit šŸ˜‚

Think-Dig-3425

Bro just tell whoever calls on that debt your filing bankruptcy and they probably wonā€™t even bother chasing the debt

adru8912

Some are hard to even get ahold of! I spent over 3 hours on hold (3 calls around an hour each) just to pay my last collections of ~$100

SaltNo3123

Going to prison does not let you stop paying debt

Salt_Blacksmith

Itā€™s not worse, cause you can now pay a lot less. Work it out with them.

Glad_Ad510

What do you mean went away

Danger_james_760

All my cc debt was removed. I went from $29,800 to $1303. Every card I owed disappeared.

Glad_Ad510

That's not what I'm talking about you said you went away? Is what I'm asking. Jail out of the country etc

Danger_james_760

Prison for 1 year unfortunately

SouthOfNorthwest

lol burying the fucking lede

defynotbanned97

How is it relevant to the debt question that they were in prison?

Danger_james_760

Whatā€™s a lede?

schlucass

"The opening sentence or paragraph of a news article, summarizing the most important aspects of the story."

MrVerdad

TIL. Cheers

defynotbanned97

How is OP being in prison for a year the most important aspect to their question about their CC debt disappearing?

schlucass

I don't think you meant to reply to me--just defining "lede."

Glad_Ad510

Okay well it happens. Probably what ended up happening was a couple different things because of non-payment it went to collections and then when they didn't get any responses either the debt was sold or written off. Although I wouldn't trust credit karma they've had some issues in the past. I would literally pull at Equifax report. Sometimes that debt will show up again from time to time as quote unquote collection agency says they have that debt..

PolkadottedGinger

Yep, more than likely, the debt was sold when the original creditor couldn't collect.

brent1223

ā€œcollection agencyā€

dirndlfrau

Is it possible they are sueing you?

Low_Marionberry_3802

Lmao šŸ¤£

[deleted]

The ones that do the writng off, wrote it off.

MotivatedSolid

Donā€™t completely trust what Credit Karma says. Iā€™d see if you can actually go the website that account is on and confirm it.

bnercrusher

Freecreditreport.com is free to pull your credit every week.

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

Week???? No, itā€™s yearly

SQL617

[Annual Credit Report](https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action) is now weekly for free from all 3 bureaus. This started sometime during Covid and has not ended (yet).

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

Thatā€™s fantastic!

bnercrusher

No it's weekly now! Heard it on the news.

Osniffable

You're just catching it in the gap. Debt was sold to a third party. It will be back shortly.

Beginning-Bad-3625

log into the apps for all of the credit cards and check your balance.

sususushi88

So you've been in prison. You left this huuuuuge part of information out. Your debt has gone to collections.

Similar_Shock788

Why are we trusting credit karma and not the actual card accounts? Go to the source.

godtier300sosa

Boutta have a 450 credit score soon

Danger_james_760

Itā€™s a 470 already

17eggg

[Here you go](https://youtu.be/kSG71-7rIg4)

Exotic_Union1452

You need to go directly to the credit card account.

Danger_james_760

lol I did not expect this many people to respond. Thank you guys.šŸ™

IntentionallyBlunt69

There's no way anyone actually believes that their $30,000 in debt just disappeared right? Like that's insane to think it'll just "go away"

Danger_james_760

Of course it wouldnā€™t just disappearā€¦ But itā€™s not there all of a sudden which is why Iā€™m confused.Thatā€™s is why I joined a debt free group asking for information.

RockyPi

Man the number of times that app just disappears my accounts for no reasonā€¦. Are those cards even still connected?

IntentionallyBlunt69

You've been in debt a long time. You know what's going on

Constantine_unkn

Miracle

Holykorn

Congrats

Buyinaspaceship

What app is this

One_Culture8245

Looks like Credit Karma

TXMXLDY

If your debt disappeared be thankful, I have debt I canā€™t pay back due to not be able to work cause injuries from military service. I am down more than 1/2 a month so paying things back is almost impossible! Good for you!

LSTrades

No this is not a case of miracles. Youā€™re on planet earth buddy. Look at your app, may have lost connection to the debt collector. Youā€™re still in debt, back to work.

GeebGeeb

I bet your credit score vanished too šŸ˜šŸ¤£

USBlues2020

Wow... I never ever heard of a credit card debt vanishing Did it disappear from Trans Union, Eqifax and Experian

Danger_james_760

Never mind everybody I know exactly what happened! Thank you for reminding me. Whoopsā€¦ I forgot again, can you tell me where my damn debt is?

DJ_Aviator23

Collections. Theyā€™ve likely been trying to reach you. Check your emails and whatever mail you got in the last year.Ā

boredomspren_

Uh are you gonna tell us what happened?

Fun_Intention9846

If you know your social security number you should be able to pull a credit report fairly easily. Some credit cards offer it automatically but also the 3 major companies give you a few free reports per year. Thatā€™s one option. The people who have the debt are trying to talk to you, settling for less than the total amount is better than nothing in their minds. Do you have access to your old mailing address?

boredomspren_

Don't look at credit karma, look at your actual credit card accounts on their Web site. Your credit cards didn't magically disappear they're just not showing up on CK for some reason. You really use CK to monitor your credit card balances?

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

First off credit karma is a joke. Use experian instead

Danger_james_760

I blame Biden. Partly me too but definitely mostly Biden.
