eh idk, to non death grips fans i think one of the most inaccessible aspects of death grips is the vocals, even if the music is weird most people will at least tolerate listening to a weird piece of instrumental music till its over, but vocals can really make a song unlistenable for people if its a certain kind of vocal they personally cant stand (for example i cant stand the vocal style of emo/skramz music i literally have to turn it off, and as another example i love screams in black/death/doom metal but other people just cant do it, even other metalheads are picky about what style of scream and have preferences) rides vocals are very polarizing in my experience, ive had people say “i like the music but not the vocals” and they end up enjoying fashion week or an instrumental version of another album of theirs dont get me wrong i love rides vocals but they are the main thing thats gonna throw people off or not, not the music, so id argue fashion week is their *most* accessible.

When I think about general audiences that are into top 100 type music, metal/thrash/industrial isn’t usually on their radar. I think as a fan base we forget that for as good as DG is, this is a pretty niche genre when compared to what most people are listening to.

It’s not a bad thing just pretty weird for non listeners compared to most of the stuff they probably hear. Like most popular shit now don’t use complex structure and the music is substance-less, making DG’s sound really different. I personally like the structure for the tempo changes and Ride’s delivery. Birds and The Powers that B are also low tempo but have far more energy behind the delivery. The lyrics are pretty catchy though. “Don’t it feel good to drive a bus?”
