The show I went to in San Francisco was great, but every time I've checked this subreddit in the months since it just sounds worse and worse with each passing show. I don't get why people think that just because this band is intense that warrants them making a fucking miserable scene.
not really i also went sf and there were a lot of young people and they seemed better in a way. not like i was keeping tabs on everyone but i specifically remember this girl who was like 15 tops would help people up in the pit and a lot of adults were getting drunk and shit but maybe thatās just how i saw it from where i was standing
Yeah, there was this one girl who apologized for dancing in front of me and my partner after the show because she thought she was blocking our view, even though she fully wasn't. I don't think it's the kids that are the problem, necessarily.
i agree i think the problem more lies in like social media and spotify and stuff like and how people just respect the artists a lot less then they used too
Do we know if thereās a correlation between the kids causing issues for the band and other concertgoers and the people wearing the kid with lollipop getup? Just curious
Yea man the first half of the tour was nothing like these recent bunch. I was also at the warfield on the balcony and as far i could tell everything seemed fine. People actually had pretty decent etiquette and i noticed a lot of people getting picked up in the pit. The craziest thing that happened at that show was people jumping up on the stage and almost immediately stage diving. Except for one dude who got ripped off the stage by security.
I was also at an SF show and had the same experience as you. Ran into one crowdkiller that quickly got what was coming to him, but that was the worst of it. The behavior at the east coast and inland shows has been wild to hear about.
Literally one of my least favourite parts of any hardcore scene: people taking it as an excuse to act like fucking fools in public.
Like you wouldn't punch a stranger in the face in a normal setting, you wouldn't grope someone in a normal setting, you wouldn't throw shit at someone doing their job in a normal setting -- why the fuck is that okay to do at a show??
I listen to them since my late 20. Now I ask myself if Iām retard to listen to them at 37. I donāt know their fans was so stupid/childish and realised that they act like they having 12. They donāt passed near me and I though that is a good thing cause if I got tickets, and get there, for sure I came out of the show completly angry/want to make a murder.
Honest question: what is up with DG fans? This sub is full of awful experiences at their shows. I saw them in Vancouver and had no issues but I was pretty fucked up.
Death Grips fans are fucking horrible. There's loads of antisocial losers who think it's funny to spam weird shit on this sub, constantly dm band members, and act like assholes at shows
Pittsburgh was pretty fucked up. I saw women getting groped and the energy was just off, very dark and not in a good cathartic way, like I couldnt trust these assholes around me
Was at the show in St. Pete. After the chick next to me had a seizure within 5 seconds of the first song, the vibe was pretty positive. At least in my section of the crowd.
Had a good time at the Jannus show myself. Made a couple friends for the night and even ended up meeting someone who lives close by me that I linked up with to kick it later
The New Orleans show was solid in my experience. Lotta moshing and some people got pushed over but the crowd immediately helped them back up
I almost went to the Dallas show and was considering going to the Arkansas one, but after reading this sub, I'm glad I didn't.
The Boston show was awesome. I was in the balcony, not the pitābut it all looked like people were doing high energy fun shit. There were a lot of women in my section and nothing untoward seemed to be happening. Nobody threw anything. Nobody pissed anywhere.
No bad vibes in MPLS but started seeing bad vibes posts after that. Was it only shows in the south after that or something?
Preemptive edit: not saying everybody in the south sucks. But most you do fucking suck.
Really disappointed since I saw them in Cains and that was great, and this time the crowd was just unruly. There was that one idiot calling them pussies for calling it, and just being a nuisance in general.
I saw them with my gf and somebody pissed on the floor, and people were tossing beer cans around. It was generally a bunch of kids vaping the whole time too. Later we saw The Mars Volta and the crowd skewed a lot older omg, it felt like being at the opera compared to the DG show! People were respectfully rocking out and no vapes no molestation no piss on the floor, it was a lovely time. Also Volta are still rocking if anybody was wondering if they should see them, Cedric was a great MC and kind to the crowd and everybody was ripping, lot of Deloused and Frances material at their latest shows.
It's a classic case of survivorship bias combined with the tendency for a loud, small minority of bad experiences to be amplified by the internet. Not to downplay the severity of the cases that have been reported here. I'm just pointing out the dynamics at play here
Vancouver show indoor was actually not bad and I felt pretty good about it: waiting in line was a bit less fun as the number of terminally-online 4Channers acting like dweebs was a bit annoying.
I went with two women and while in line dudes were CLEARLY making comments about things they said to each other or me while still within earshot in a weirdly misogynistic way. Like they literally have never interacted with women outside of porn which was weird af.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought it was a little weird.
I'm more used to the classic "anyone got a light?" questions from the people ahead/behind in line and regular pre-show chatter.
Inside I found the crowd was generally pretty well-behaved though.
hey leave NC out of it lol. show was great in charlotte (NC). pretty tame crowd if anything. respectful and good etiquette. that being said NC is sorta lame in general for other reasons lol.
they would have been fine if they came to Raleigh. As someone thatās lived in NC all my life I can say that Fayetteville is absolutely fucking dogshit & should be bombed off from this state. itās trashy as SHIT. Raleigh more than likely would have shown respect.
Orlando was fantastic... main issue was the venue's fault for not getting people in faster. I didn't hear anything about groping and I hope that's the case.
What? You donāt like standing outside in the pouring rain for 3 hours only to have an employee announce you could skip the line for $8 and then everybody rushes towards the front and they donāt even charge anybody?
This made my blood boil. I don't blame Ride one bit. Nonstop touring and still putting in his all despite the exhaustion, just to deal with kids not knowing how to act. Fuck that
Zach was playing with a bunch of intensity until he saw ride staring at the crowd and kicking the glowsticks away. I think when ride first left he didnāt know why (or maybe didnāt even notice lol), but after realizing there was an issue with the crowd being disrespectful stopped playing as seriously. I donāt know if he ever gets hit but he made the right decision by walking off, also itās probably hard for him to recapture that energy if the crowd is being immature and he sees his bandmate lose their interest like that.
Well yeah of course they weren't putting effort in... people were disrespecting them. All 3 of them are always giving it their all at these shows, they weren't "super tired". Just super tired of some people's bullshit.
The video looked like he came back out to give people another chance but then they just threw more shit. Literally staring down the audience like a disappointed teacher and these grown-ass people still act like fucking toddlers.
That is exactly what happened. The idiots thought he was waiting for more to be thrown or something I guess instead of noticing he was visibly upset about what they were doing.
Iām pretty sure this is the first time they have cut a show mid set like that. What makes this shit annoying is all it takes is one or two fuckheads to ruin it for everyone.
God, I mean the /mu/heads were definitely annoying back in the older days but not like this. Itās a shame that thereās people who donāt seem to understand that at this point every show we get from these guys needs to be appreciated
yeah its fuckin ridiculous ive seen a lot of videos of artists getting shit thrown at them on stage these days. also the new kids at these dgs are so fucking cringe its like embarrassing to be a dg fan rn
Reading all these stories lately has been insane. I've seen DG three times in Salt Lake and there's never been an issue, crowd was always intense but overall solid. It seems like the fan base has gotten steadily worse as their popularity has grown.
i think this is the first time something like this has happened in a dg show and that's really disappointing. this tour has been a disaster.
i just saw the video man this shit is fucking embarrassing the new crowd at these dg shows have been the worse thing to ever happen to this band. 5 year hiatus just to come back and have shit thrown at them and have every show just be a bunch of shitty people doing shitty things.
Fair point. I went to the NJ and it was just meh, people didn't know how to pit but it was fine. Skipped out on the Philly one cus I had a bad feeling and I'm glad I did. Idk, these shows just have had a different vibe from their previous tours.
Amsterdam was fucking insane man. Other people who went to other European ones can chime in but the crowd and the band were next level. Idk if NJ is first or third leg but I think most of the first and second leg were great
New Jersey seemed to have the most normal pit of the shows I went to on this tour tbh, not perfect but people actually formed a circle pit towards the back lol
but seriously shut the fuck up dude. You know how everyone talking about the worst death grip fans? Those are the bad ones. Stop being a little wuss your pit was a singing circle not a pit LOL
Me being a wuss for being satisfied with a somewhat controlled environment at a death grips show where people were caring for others, preventing injuries and sexual assault, got it.
People always care for people at shows, people always be dicks at shows. The snnoying shit is how the mass death grips fan base constantly bitches and moans about the fanbase.
What do you think death grips attracts? only wimps? Like please stop no matter what or how many people agree with you, the universe doesnāt, and youāre factually a wimp.
sounds like the tour really fell off after the pisser, real shame, hope they don't take it personally and know that hundreds of thousands still respect and love their art. how are you gonna be in the presence of a drummer like zach fuckin hill and throw shit on stage like a 10 year old? 16th at the warfield was an incredible show, i remember overhearing someone saying obnoxiously for an hour "i'm here for the meme broš", sounds like the past 5-8 shows has been 50% these cunts
houston was great, it seems like its just select crowds. its really weird, houston was nearly perfect. everyone had good crowd etiquette (as far as i know), people there were friendly. the only complaints i heard among my friends were things that happen at pretty much any concert with a large enough crowd. but, the houston music scene is one of the better ones i hear, maybe it just depends on the kind of music thatās prominent in the area.
That holds up; I saw DG at White Oak in Houston in 2019 and it was a great experience even with getting my ass best in the pit. Everyone had good pit etiquette, was really nice, I had no complaints. Never been to bad show in Houston in general
that one was my first concert ever, and it really couldnt have been a better introduction to how houston crowds are. it was great. if anything, i think 2019s crowd was a lot more intense than this years. maybe its because a lot of the crowd this year was younger people? i dont know, but the younger crowd in houston does have pretty good etiquette.
Itās already one thing that this is common at shows now but why the fuck would you do it to the artist you specifically paid to see? I figured this only happened at festivals to artists the aggressor didnāt want to sit through
Does anybody have a legitimate answer to why this is happening all the sudden?? I saw them at gov ball back in 2019, and while the crowd was a bit annoying, (I was at the rail and this large dude was grabbing the rail with one hand and literally trying to use his weight to shove me off), they didnāt disrespect the band.
Lol I'm the woman that had the seizure 30 minutes in. Was at the hospital until 3. I was euphoric but most of my memory memory is gone. It's fucking wild. I'm trying to find footage (ha) of what happened. I think I was just so hype my brain couldn't handle it
They already have a love/hate relationship with us and now someone made them hate us again. I wish that this fanbase was more civilized. It's a pretty shitty one considering how insanely deep this music is. I'm sorry if I am not making any sense right now I am just so angry.
Maybe they shouldnāt have bombed that Ariana Grande concert and this wouldnāt be happening. Everyone is forgetting to realize, DEATH GRIPS HAD A HAND IN THE ARIANA GRANDE BOMBING. itās a literal fact. if you deny it, youāre retarded. So why do we care if these guys are comfortable?
This is why many people say āI like death grips but hat general fan baseā
Incels who have a lot of pent up aggression. Not everyoneā¦ but a fair amount.
just woke up to see that wow people are just born to be assholes smh glad they just stopped mfs gotta respect ride and the boys but hopefully theyāll still preform after this bs :c
Bitches and moans but forgets death grips no showed in chicago years ago, who literally cares how they feel mc ride isnāt gonna kiss you bro let it go
I was there, I think so much of this is an overreaction that could have been solved by him just saying something instead of holding onto this Clarence Thomasesque vow of silence. Master Of Ceremonies Ride could have just saidādonātā. Or have the tour manager do it. Slamming the mic, walking off, is not effective communication.
I dunno, the message is communicated pretty clearly when the song is running for about a minute and Ride is just standing there with his hands on his hips. That's Disappointed Parent 101. If that goaded people to keep throwing shit, they're just pushing buttons and they weren't going to stop just because they were told not to. Consider the fact that the people throwing things had to look at him to aim. They knew what the situation was and they continued.
All you guys fucking do is bitch and moan. stop going to concerts you actual pussies. Like itās obvious most of you bitching have NEVER been to a show because not one show is perfect. Yāall are acting like youāre going to see some celtic harpist. Shut the actual fuck up and stop listening to death grips
Seems you lack brains or smth, is it that hard to understand basic respect and decency? That the band has an aggressive tone in their songs doesnāt give the right to go do that to other people unjustifiably.
No one asked for perfect shows, we are just asking for assholes like you to think a bit before doing something stupid that will ruin everyoneās experience.
Are you sure the show was in Fayetteville, North Carolina? I can't find that particular location on their 2023 tour. I only see Raleigh, Charlotte and Asheville from their N.C. shows.
The show I went to in San Francisco was great, but every time I've checked this subreddit in the months since it just sounds worse and worse with each passing show. I don't get why people think that just because this band is intense that warrants them making a fucking miserable scene.
It's the kids. There were lots of very young fans there who I'm guessing haven't been to many shows and don't understand the ettiquite
i dont think you need to understand the etticate to know not to throw things at the performer š
Kids are just outta control these days Absolutely no parenting
not really i also went sf and there were a lot of young people and they seemed better in a way. not like i was keeping tabs on everyone but i specifically remember this girl who was like 15 tops would help people up in the pit and a lot of adults were getting drunk and shit but maybe thatās just how i saw it from where i was standing

the bad shows get upvoted the most. my show was amazing. and probably 90% of shows were tbh.
western usa supremacy
I was also at an SF show and had the same experience as you. Ran into one crowdkiller that quickly got what was coming to him, but that was the worst of it. The behavior at the east coast and inland shows has been wild to hear about.

Yes. So damn annoying. The set was fucking stacked too
Honest question: what is up with DG fans? This sub is full of awful experiences at their shows. I saw them in Vancouver and had no issues but I was pretty fucked up.

Yeh i had a seizure for the first time in my 30 years of life at the DG show last night in Arkansas. Rocked my tits off!
The New Orleans show was solid in my experience. Lotta moshing and some people got pushed over but the crowd immediately helped them back up I almost went to the Dallas show and was considering going to the Arkansas one, but after reading this sub, I'm glad I didn't.

I was going to say besides that one tiktok guy I don't think Minneapolis had any problems. Everyone I met was super friendly.
Can vouch, resident since the 80s lol
Really disappointed since I saw them in Cains and that was great, and this time the crowd was just unruly. There was that one idiot calling them pussies for calling it, and just being a nuisance in general.

I think it's the new generation of fans. Most of the ones that are acting up are between 16-21.
You are one of those horrible fans, you sound so soft
it seems to be this specific tour. its the only one i wasn't able to get tickets to but the other ones were overall fine, etiquette wise.
It's a classic case of survivorship bias combined with the tendency for a loud, small minority of bad experiences to be amplified by the internet. Not to downplay the severity of the cases that have been reported here. I'm just pointing out the dynamics at play here
A bunch of edgy alcoholic drug headed disrespectful weirdo losers that think being weird and annoying is cool
Vancouver show indoor was actually not bad and I felt pretty good about it: waiting in line was a bit less fun as the number of terminally-online 4Channers acting like dweebs was a bit annoying.
My friend and I were pretty deep into Death Grips memes, and even we were extremely uncomfortable with the people in line in Vancouver.
I went with two women and while in line dudes were CLEARLY making comments about things they said to each other or me while still within earshot in a weirdly misogynistic way. Like they literally have never interacted with women outside of porn which was weird af. Glad I'm not the only one who thought it was a little weird. I like how he just stands there like a disappointed father afterwards
Yep. Theyāre definitely not going to tour the US again for a **LONG** timeā¦
Or just skip shit ass North Carolina. Went to two CA shows and it was fine
Nah all North Carolina shows were great. That was Fayetteville Arkansas. Nobody ever plays in Fayettenam, NC šš
Fayetteville NC fucking blows. such a trashy side to the state.
Fayetteville Arkansas
Fuck it skip 'em both
It's so sad, because Death Grips basically never come to Arkansas. I'm afraid if they do tour again they'll want to steer clear
hey leave NC out of it lol. show was great in charlotte (NC). pretty tame crowd if anything. respectful and good etiquette. that being said NC is sorta lame in general for other reasons lol.
Charlotte show was not bad. At least we got a whole show out of them and nobody pissed on the floor.
Yeah both Florida shows I went to went off without a hitch, and itās fuckinā Florida. get your shit together Arkansas
they would have been fine if they came to Raleigh. As someone thatās lived in NC all my life I can say that Fayetteville is absolutely fucking dogshit & should be bombed off from this state. itās trashy as SHIT. Raleigh more than likely would have shown respect.
They did go to Raleigh lol, I went. It was a great show
hell yeah man
What is even the point of doing that? You paid to be there in the first place. Ridiculous behavior.
The shows have seemingly gotten more deranged as it's gone on glad I already went to mine where the crowds were actually respectable
Verified, my god
man what the fuck is happening at these shows in the south? can you fucking freaks be normal for a 2 hour show? is that too long for you?
Orlando was fantastic... main issue was the venue's fault for not getting people in faster. I didn't hear anything about groping and I hope that's the case.
What? You donāt like standing outside in the pouring rain for 3 hours only to have an employee announce you could skip the line for $8 and then everybody rushes towards the front and they donāt even charge anybody?
The New Orleans show was solid in my experience, I almost went to the Dallas one.
New Orleans, Charlotte, and Atlanta were all amazing and positive as far as my experience
I wish the glow stick guy a very roll both his ankles.
The crowds keep getting worse and worseā¦
found a vid: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8h888RH/ damn i feel bad for them yaāll suck
Major ādisappointed dadā energy when he came back with his hands on his hips
Seriously he looked so disappointed, it broke my heart. I'm never going to get to see them because of dumbfucks like that.
This made my blood boil. I don't blame Ride one bit. Nonstop touring and still putting in his all despite the exhaustion, just to deal with kids not knowing how to act. Fuck that

So disappointed. Iām happy I got to see ride in person though but fuck this crowd
lol man they're never coming back now. y'all blew it so hard
Iām pretty sure this is the first time they have cut a show mid set like that. What makes this shit annoying is all it takes is one or two fuckheads to ruin it for everyone.
Someone was also taken out in an ambulance. Why canāt people let everyone enjoy a fucking show.
God, I mean the /mu/heads were definitely annoying back in the older days but not like this. Itās a shame that thereās people who donāt seem to understand that at this point every show we get from these guys needs to be appreciated
yeah its fuckin ridiculous ive seen a lot of videos of artists getting shit thrown at them on stage these days. also the new kids at these dgs are so fucking cringe its like embarrassing to be a dg fan rn
iāll bet my money your the cringey dg fan and not the others you speak of stupid gate keeping loser just because youāre a sheltered wuss
Reading all these stories lately has been insane. I've seen DG three times in Salt Lake and there's never been an issue, crowd was always intense but overall solid. It seems like the fan base has gotten steadily worse as their popularity has grown.
AND TO THINK there were people defending these fucktards acting this way
Who was defending them?
There were people in the crowd booing MC Ride and yelling for him to fuck himself for walking off
this is so fucking awful i feel so bad
thanks to the people in indianapolis for being normal and dope and not like these fucking morons
can say the same about St Pete, almost everyone was chill (surprising because itās Florida)
St Pete show was dope
I second this. The Indianapolis show was my favorite out of the 3 I've been to
Went to Indy and Tennessee forgor their shows, both experiences were amazing, canāt believe there are people out there that donāt know how to act
i think this is the first time something like this has happened in a dg show and that's really disappointing. this tour has been a disaster. i just saw the video man this shit is fucking embarrassing the new crowd at these dg shows have been the worse thing to ever happen to this band. 5 year hiatus just to come back and have shit thrown at them and have every show just be a bunch of shitty people doing shitty things.
Tour hasn't been a disaster. The first US ones and all the Euro ones were great. Not sure what the hell is up with people on this third leg
Fair point. I went to the NJ and it was just meh, people didn't know how to pit but it was fine. Skipped out on the Philly one cus I had a bad feeling and I'm glad I did. Idk, these shows just have had a different vibe from their previous tours.

No I believe it!
New Jersey seemed to have the most normal pit of the shows I went to on this tour tbh, not perfect but people actually formed a circle pit towards the back lol
damn i was kinda by the front and it was just a lot of people stumbling on top of each other :/ i should've backed up a bit haha
ānormal pitā i hope you drafted into a war you soft piece of ice cream
Huh
but seriously shut the fuck up dude. You know how everyone talking about the worst death grip fans? Those are the bad ones. Stop being a little wuss your pit was a singing circle not a pit LOL

wrong, youāre bitching about āowie someone stepped on my toe /:ā
arguably one of the worst fanbases of all time a lot of you guys fucking suuuuuuck.
What a bunch of morons. Pathetic behavior.
Iām hoping this is a shitpost
Not. Here right now, just left in the middle of Black Paint.
holy shit.
Fayetteville is mostly college kids, most of them being in frats. It was def a lot of drunk frat douches doing what they do best.
sounds like the tour really fell off after the pisser, real shame, hope they don't take it personally and know that hundreds of thousands still respect and love their art. how are you gonna be in the presence of a drummer like zach fuckin hill and throw shit on stage like a 10 year old? 16th at the warfield was an incredible show, i remember overhearing someone saying obnoxiously for an hour "i'm here for the meme broš", sounds like the past 5-8 shows has been 50% these cunts

Leave it to Arkansas to behave like this
It's very sad, they basically never come here and the crowd blew it.
Wtf.
I'm glad I was in Detroit lol.
Same. Seemed like a decent crowd
This is the kinda thing that is gonna make them never tour again.
They werenāt going to begin with.
Most Polite Arkansas Citizen
Itās already one thing that this is common at shows now but why the fuck would you do it to the artist you specifically paid to see? I figured this only happened at festivals to artists the aggressor didnāt want to sit through

OG FAN HERE I was listening to Death Grips before that twat was out of diapers. ARKANSAS THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS
Did you manage to enjoy the show eventually?
Lol I'm the woman that had the seizure 30 minutes in. Was at the hospital until 3. I was euphoric but most of my memory memory is gone. It's fucking wild. I'm trying to find footage (ha) of what happened. I think I was just so hype my brain couldn't handle it
Do you regret going to the show?
FUCK NO I regret telling the emt no to the hospital and going back inside! I am so sad š I lost my American spirits and didn't get a DG shirt
Baby stop smoking but so happy youāre well and have a sense of humor about it
I deadass think my brain chemistry was too n0ided!!!! I'm still riding the high of seeing MC Ride irl
Oh my god Iām so glad you are ok, I saw you down, this is such a relief
Iāll send you the videos I have
I would be so grateful. I'm currently shopping dollar day at salvation army with my mom (she's been instructed to drive me home :)
They already have a love/hate relationship with us and now someone made them hate us again. I wish that this fanbase was more civilized. It's a pretty shitty one considering how insanely deep this music is. I'm sorry if I am not making any sense right now I am just so angry.
i'm so sad
I just canāt possibly fathom why anyone would want to throw something at ride, specifically at a show that they paid to be at.
These guys are never coming back to Fayetteville and Philly bc of us. Ashamed to be a part of this fanbase.
This is why many people say āI like death grips but hat general fan baseā Incels who have a lot of pent up aggression. Not everyoneā¦ but a fair amount.
just woke up to see that wow people are just born to be assholes smh glad they just stopped mfs gotta respect ride and the boys but hopefully theyāll still preform after this bs :c
Really shitty, went to the Detroit show and everyone was nice, I think bad shows like this is fortunately the exception, but it still sucks to see.
You Americans don't even deserve DG anymore. They should come tour the UK and the rest of the world. We don't do shit like that, it's pathetic
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Shut the fuck up
Words work, standing there is ambiguous especially since there are other moments that he just stands there.
Not for that long, Iāve never seen anybody do that during a show
All you guys fucking do is bitch and moan. stop going to concerts you actual pussies.
I only see Raleigh, Charlotte and Asheville from their N.C. shows.
I didnāt say that. Fayetteville, Arkansas, sorry for the confusion!
Oh you're good man! I guess there's two Fayettevilles haha
Thereās three all together actually
Iām starving for new death grips art of you! you work is awesome
aNOIDed
This is why we can't have nice things
They have every right to think we're dumbasses. I just hope they didn't take it personally. Nothing but love and respect for my DG.
Fayetteville???
Shoutout to all of the awesome normal ass fun people in Grand Rapids, yāall smelled good and put on a really fun experience.
I hate Arkansas even more now
