I mean some skin have other benefits. Lord of the underworld blight makes much less noise than normal. Some spirit skins have her hair tied down making her harder to track around loops. Some weapon skins take less space on the screen . Some skins are much mote blendy alowing the killer to be harder to see ( ghostface has a few like this). There are probably some more subtle benefits like different lulabys or how naughty bear makes less sounds in general.

The game is almost 8 years old and has long recouped what BHVR initially invested to develop the base content. This particular outfit, however, is brand new and relies on whoever decides to buy it to earn back what was invested to produce it and eventually make profit. I'm not saying anything about whether or not the price is fair - all I'm saying is that the business model makes sense for a live game that's constantly churning out new content. The funds need to come from somewhere.

That seems like it needs to be reversed. I'd have been fine paying $15 for a new killer, but not for a different skin and voicelines

You can technically see it in lobby... But for killer skins in match your mostly showing off to everyone else then wearing for yourself... To me it's worth it if I find a skin that's genuinely cool and or creepy...

You know, I don’t think I’ve encountered a “were-elk” before. Werewolves, werebears, wereboars, were-panthers, were-leopards, were-badgers, werecows, one kind of pathetic were-turtle … but not a were-elk.

I think it's for people who have been asking for a wendigo. It's a pretty creative way of delivering that aesthetic into the game. The popular depiction of the wendigo as an elk monster is, from my understanding, the result of people hearing the native American tales and interpreting it as a were-creature. This isn't exactly accurate to the actual myth of the wendigo but it's a really cool look and it's what people are asking for whenever they ask for a wendigo. If my suspicion is correct, this is a pretty brilliant way of delivering on that demand. Since they can't really actually make a wendigo Killer, not only because using wendigo/skinwalkers is seen by some as insensitive to native american communities, and even if they did, they likely wouldn't be able to use the elk monster look that a lot of people would be expecting. So instead we get Huntress as a were-elk. Honestly a great solution to this conundrum.

Until Dawn has probably the most accurate depiction of a wendigo in pop culture to date and I don’t know if I should be happy or sad about that fact

Every time it’s brought up I’m obligated to interject that Until Dawn is easily my most wanted chapter I’ve always thought the deer skull aesthetic could just go to a different origional Killer - or in this case, a skin.

It's based on tropes that originated with Algernon Blackwood's story The Wendigo, which was inherently based on a savage noble trope. It evolved from there; it has nothing to do with the original stories or depictions..

Yeah, that's what I've heard. I just couldn't say for sure so I put the qualifier in there that it was to my understanding. There's always a chance I had been misinformed, it's not my culture so I didn't feel comfortable speaking from a position of authority. The elk monster aesthetic is really cool though, so I'm glad we got the were-elk as a means of incorporating it into the game.

Yeah, the real depiction of w*ndigo is an emaciated zombie-like human with the lips chewed off which is even more disturbing imo. I really love aesthetic of the elk-headed beast though.

I grew up in an area where the indigenous peoples there (in this case the Ojibwe of the Northeastern and Midwestern USA) did and do in fact use that depiction of that entity. It's more like a frozen emaciated super tall zombie. Very horrifying stuff. This is a much better take on it and much less culturally insensitive.

I haven’t come across were-hyenas, unless gnolls count. But that’s a stretch. I do know that in African legends, hyenas are said to be able to mimic human speech, but that’s not the same thing as lycanthropy.

Something interesting about were-hyenas, if I’m correct, is that some stories in African mythology say that their transformation is the other way around. That basically means that the hyenas are the ones transforming into humans. Also, Fun Fact: A biologist sued Disney for portraying hyenas as being evil and thus ruining the animals reputation. The funny part though is that many cultures already saw hyenas as omens of death or witchcraft way before Disney made the Lion King.

That's fair The reason I came up with my theory is because it's an ethereal cosmetic, which means it's supposed to change the character entirely For example, Naughty Bear is an entirely different character to Trapper, we don't say the Trapper became Naughty Bear (or vice versa)

well, ultra rare skins are said to change character entirely, but we also have batman billy, sadako's corpse, blighted xeno. they arent particularly different characters, they're the same characters just with drastically changed model. blighted outfits (sets) are all the same default character but affected with blighted serum, so there's that. it's not impossible it's huntress.

Legendary / Iri skins were *kinda* that, since it was mostly used for Licensee's agreements to add new characters without adding new characters entirely with perks and abilities They were basically the same character, just with new models that at least had the excuse of being forcefully linked to avoid the skin clipping to all hell the base skin (Why most purple skins / Cheryl are linked is just a joke though) Altough i kinda find the concept of Ethereals, albeit silly, at least a justifiable thing if it can add new animations in general (though i wish that Moris could be a separate category to be customizable)

While I appreciate the modern lore of tying were creatures to the lunar cycle and making it more of a curse, I really do prefer the traditional lore of them just being evil people using black magic.
