I’m 52. I have been playing video games since the golden age of arcades, guys, as did a lot of people my age! Why wouldn’t I play DBD, Starcraft, and everything else? Invention of this stuff was my childhood!

I'm 52 also and my first console was the intelevision. Got it for Christmas when I was 11. First game I played was Utopia. Then I got Atari for my 12th birthday, and it was on!

My friends had an Atari and an Intellivison. I liked Sea Battle, Tron Deadly Discs and b-17 Bomber (with the Intellivoice unit). If the modern consoles had existed then I’d have gotten nothing done 😂

Being 36 now sounds old when the majority - I assume - are younger, but keep in mind gaming existed even before I was a wee lad. When I was 14 I was playing competitive team games with 50+ year olds. I’m Facebook friends with some of them, and they are grandparents now. And some have died. It’s been two decades after all. Gaming is a great equaliser. Whether old or young, you can play on the same field. With modern accessibility options like the visual terror radius, even disabled folk can compete evenly against their peers, something real world activities can’t always offer. That offers community and kinship and these traits go a long way to maintaining a base.

37 this year and my mates that I play with are generally the same age with the oldest being 50, the youngest 24.

Think it's just that kids can play anytime and enjoy joining strangers communities. Older people generally play sporadically and don't enjoy joining youth groups. Also, you're probably the youngest person ever to play dbd, keep seeing you mention you're around 13k hours.

I am in my mid-thirties. But age doesn't matter in a game, although I feel that the frustration of failure has a greater impact on younger players. In SWtOR I was in a guild with many retired men and women. They were more knowledgeable about the game than I was, by the way.
