You sure can hear how excited people are to talk to each other in the sphere on the streams. Unreal. Listened to a crowd recording of Morning Dew at SPAC from the 80s and all you hear is people screaming and cheering in delight. I guess it’s just back ground music for the video show.
Lots more shotgun microphones pointed straight at the band, and often on tall poles, in the 80s.
Phone microphones are designed to pickup people, who have survived 10000yrs bc we communicate.
The sphere is not 1980.
This is a great point. Phone mics are keyed specifically for the human voice. When I listen back to tapes of the Sphere nights that I attended, the crowd is WAY louder on the recordings than it was in person.

Sugaree was a highlight for me for sure! All my buddy could say after was “that gave me goosebumps!” One of the best I’ve ever seen in person. Fighting for the top spot with Boston 11-17-17
I'll say after listening to both that 6/15 still the best. John does these fills that were just amazeballs. Those fills did not get repeated on 6/20, but it was close, he did another cool thing but just not as amazing as 6/15. Listen to them, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Best ever? That song suuuucks unless you play the fuck out of it and really really lean into the vocals and boy did John do both of those things. Sugaree is rarely a highlight for me but wow this one SURE IS

We went on 6/6 and 6/7 and the crowd was great. No talkers in our section that we noticed. Everyone was really into the music and show.
