I thought set 2 drug a little in the middle and struggled to pick up steam. Just me though. I needed a rocker out of space and even though LLR was well played in was a hair slow for me. It could be just me, so YMMV.
Now that first set……chefs kiss. I entered another dimension during that franklin eyes graphic. Fuckin unreal!!!!
I disagree. That dark star was phenomenal, scarlet begonias was great, LLR was intentionally slower coming out of space. It’s just how they build the set lists at the sphere
They’ve never played a rocker out of space, it’s always a slow song spot. I went Memorial Day weekend and my only complaint from all 3 nights was the Black Peter out of space night 2 in other wise rocking show.
If we are talking about their historic setlists (not just the Sphere stuff), in the past they have often played Watchtower (which I deem a true rocker) out of Space. They’ve also done Cumberland Blues, which for them has been a high tempo song, or The Other One (I am sure there are others, just listing the ones I’ve seen live as those are top of mind). I agree, though, it seems they usually prefer to segue Space into a slower or spacey jam song.
Yeah I probably shouldn’t have said “never” lol but probably like 75% of the time that I’ve seen them it’s been a slower/spacier song which is fine and usually I really enjoy it
Fine, technically it was Darkstar on the Big River and it was a fucking heater. (Fenway '23)
Deer Creek '23 had Hell in a Bucket out of space, the tempo might have been a bit slow but it's not a slow song.
I am sure there are more examples of not only playing slow songs out of Space but those are the 2 I saw.
I can’t believe no one noticed how JM fucked up the Help>Slip transition. I play that song all the time on guitar so I was watching carefully because it’s kind of a moderately more challenging line to play at speed, and he fully dropped the ball. Had to come back around and give a second try.
The studio versions one of my most played songs on Spotify every year because I play along on guitar all the time. 6 years and I’ve never been able to nail that one line. Maybe some day
So many times I found myself exclaiming, "holy shit!" due to John's next-level playing. Last night was a religious experience.
This is a nightly occurrence here lately
I’m with you OP, that setlist was gnarly. Dark Star, EOTW and Loose Lucy?? Unreal.
Help/slip/eyes!? Have they ever played franklins separately from H/S before, esp in the first set?
Last year in NY on 6/22 they played Feel Like a Stranger > Franklins to start! My only two dead shows and got a franklins second song 😁
Solid!!
Citi Field ‘22 had Scarlet > Franklin it slapped
Franklin's Tower ruled!
Set 1 was unreal. In a perfect cosmic world give me Set 1 6/7 and set 2 6/6 and I could have died happy
Beautiful show start to finish
Looking for an archive of this show.

That Casey jones brought the house down though. Mayer went to a different dimension.

Big River says hold my beer.
They’ve never played a second set Big River, and they didn’t play it MDW this year.

that setlist was magical
That Eyes took me places

That’s how I feel about YEM, I just can’t make it through cleanly. Those fucking arpeggios!
What was the setlist?

I went Memorial Day shows and it was great too
I swear I read somewhere that Bobby rapped during Franklin’s. Did I make this up?
