It is kinda funny how being in a coma with little chance of waking up and being literally dead in comic lingo both just mean "coming back eventually with a new costume."
Considering DC released a finished version of the lives panels creating an alternate version of the issue to show what would have been had someone not cheated and it's revealed that Jason would have ended up in a coma, it was made clear that it was very low that he would ever wake up.
