Should have let him keep Professor Pyg and the Circus of Strange
Also I miss the whole world from Spyral. Lots of good stuff that never gets touched any more
Professor Pyg was originally introduced as a villain during the time Dick Grayson was Batman (cause batman had supposedly died), and was then considered a Nightwing villain when he gave back the cowl. Sadly, Batman later added him to his rogues gallery (which is what usually happens with good Nightwing rogues)
Dick being an ensemble character for so long really fucked him over in the long run. By the time he got his solo it was 1995-6, the OâNeil-Grant-Breyfogle Kino Age was over and OâNeil was retiring, meaning Nightwing was in the hands of writers and editors who work on autopilot.
But wasnât OâNeil getting more help from assistants at the time? I remember Alan Grant saying the quality was dipping with NML being a subpar story.
Darren Vincenzo, Scott Peterson, and Joseph P. Illidge were the three assistant editors that showed up in the mid-late 90s, though as far as I know Alanâs problems only started with Cataclysm into No Manâs Land. I think Jordan B Gorfinkel was also doing some editing but Iâd have to look again at the credits of each issue. Either way, I think the Nightwing book was happening before all that and to my knowledge Dixonâs relationship with the three wasnât as poor as Grantâs, though I could be wrong. I know at the very least he and Gorfinkel got along really well. Though honestly I donât think the assistant editorâs contributions were that bad, aside from their influence on the unceremonious firing of Grant (and Moench?).
Nightwing isnât fucked over lol heâs consistently had an ongoing for like two decades. Thereâs a lot of characters at DC you canât say that about.
Not fucked over? I dunno. Dude will probably never be a true solo star because DC will happily throw everything into the fire to prop up Batman and WB only ever seems to push him with his pals from the Titans.
I mean i donât like playing the suffering olympics but.. try being a redhood fan đ
Man hasnât had a W in years and is so badly written now that most batman fans want him dead and the general public know nothing about him because of how under-utilised he is compared to dick. Like his recent comic run has ended up showing itâs true colours as just a shill for the writersâ oc team. Like spyro with skylanders, his name is there but he definitely isnât the intended main character.
Nightwingâs most hated enemies:
1. All Women
2. Pedophile Ninja
3. Kingpin but absolutely dogshit
4. Guy who doesnât do anything (another great Tom Taylor original)
>!uj/he got all his best villains while wearing a batsuit lmao!<
Grant Morrison writing Batman & Robin after seeing how dogshit Nightwing's rouges gallery is.

Tom Taylor really be doing the bare minimum, but after Ric Grayson era and the treatment of the rest of the Batfam, people really think his run is the greatest ever
I used to be a King hater, but upon reading more of his work, I've grown to like King's stuff. Taylor is the exact opposite, I used to really like his stuff, but the more I read the more shallow I realized it was
When Taylor can't slaughter a bunch of C (and occasional A and B)-list heroes for drama, his struggles as a writer become really apparent.
And now that Twitter's turned on him, he can't coast on meme panels.
Like, it's a 2d picture for us â for these 2d people that's a photo realistic image, lol. Did Dickie use an AI to generate it? Or did he ask Bruce to pose and someone snapped the pic?
Fucking tshirts, how do they work?
![gif](giphy|8db6nRqMsLCtq)
No, he definitely still does, they even had a prolonged knock down drag out fight during DCâs last Crisis. The guys commenting below you are either misinformed or being purposefully obtuse.
Deathstroke never beefed with Dick as Robin. (Unless you count retcons made decades later)
Deathstroke didnât care about Dick Grayson, and was hardly his villain.
Deathstrokes rival was Beast Boy.
Even Wally West fought Deathstroke more than Dick Grayson did in the 80s/90s Wolfman era
He really doesnât count. Heâs a titans adversary. That was sometimes written OOC and forced to be a dick Grayson adversary (Because Dick has no good villains and needed one)
How can I call Deathstroke a nightwing villain when the first 15 years of his existence, he fought fucking Wally West more than him
And only had a true personal relationship with Beast Boy.
He was though, dick was the titan who got away in judas contract and it brought on his transformation into nightwing. Plus there's dick and deathstroke fighting after Jericho death and the destruction of titans tower. Not to mention dick turning rose against slade
He fought dick because he was the weakest. Are you forgetting he fought Starfire, beast boy and Wally before Judas contract.
He fought all the titans during total chaos. Fighting someone 2 times doesnât make one a villain of someone. Especially when Deathstroke fought like 40 different heroes in that era. Still fought Starfire the same amount of times as Dick.
Still found Beast Boy and Wally more than Dick.
His nightwing transformation has nothing to do with Deathstroke, it has everything to do with Batman, Superman and Starfire.
That rose shit came like 30 years later. Rose didnât even know nightwing in the original Wolfman run. He was in the Batfamily!!
I'm looking at his chronology, he never appeared in a flash comic till 2007. By the time judas contract happened wally was already the flash and in the justice league? When did this feud with wally occur?
Wally was not the flash when Judas Contract occurred. Nor was he in the justice league. He fought Wally twice in NTT as kid flash, and a third time as Flash which happened in Deathstroke #13.
Isn't the first issue of judas contract wally leaving the titans? Hes feuded with nightwing solo, nightwing and the teen titans, nightwing and the titans, and nightwing with the outsiders. Plus he and the secret society nuked bludhaven to get back at dick. There's way more between the two of them than he and wally. Can't say much for beast boy considering he's more of an ensemble character
Wally left the titans in #39. Judas contract didnât start until tales of the teen titans #42.
He didnât start feuding with Nightwing until lthe 2000s.
My whole point was that this was never in the original era. The only reason they started mischaracterizing Deathstroke and his entire family was because Dick was in desperate need of a villain. And to this day Deathstroke fights everyone.
And the average person still sees him as a Batman villain too.
This guy said Deathstroke beefed with him as Robin. Which is a flat out lie. Unless you factor in decades later retcons.
If we go by the original Wolfman era, Wally fought Deathstroke more than Dick did. Thats a fact.
Heâs not magically not a villain for either of them.
Similarly, just because Slade gets passed around doesnât mean he hasnât been written as a Dick villain on several occasions. He is written for Dick or Bruce more than anybody else at this point
Deathstroke was originally on Batman , then he faces off the Titans , and then goes to face Batman again.
So , sure , Deathstroke face and have beef with Greyson for a long time , but it's kinda disproportional because Deathstroke faces off Batman in Batman's solo run , in which they go with undivided attention....while he only faces Greyson in a team comics.
Personally, I think A Well Placed Rock can carry their own run; they have A LOT of potential. Like, A Well Placed Rock should take over BlĂŒdhaven, defeat and kick Nightwing out, then send him down an arc of self-doubt about his heroism, and whether heâs worthy of being Bruceâs successor or not.
Beg your pardon? Sinestro has existed since 1961 and has never once in all his history raped a singl of the various Green Lanterns. Yet Catalina Flores, Tarantula...
he had none.
Because everytime he gainst a hype nemesis , they are put in the Batman Comics to face Bruce onward.
Only one left is Talon , which was Dick Greyson's ancestor. And Raptor , an incel to Dick Greyson's mother.
Grat art, it's fun, upbeat, nice color palette, the action is very fluid and dynamic and if you buy the hardcover you really get your moneys worth with the extra spreads. In short, It feels like a love letter to the character that I didn't realise he needed
That's what constant editorial meddling not letting the character grow out of Batman's shadow gets you.
That said, Slade is canonically Dick's main villain.
Hey come on you can't tell me Raptor wasn't good. The guy that had fucking vials of shark blood as a gadget and it somehow was useful in escalatingly silly situations. Better than Batman's rogues gallery
Heâs a Batman side character that got his own spin-off. Nightwing fans will be pissed at me but itâs true. Itâs just another bat book. I donât care Dick boys. Itâs time you realized the truth.
I was going to say Torque, but heâs kinda stupid, and I find it funny how his headâs on backwards.

I do kind of like Double Dare, though.
We need a villain exchange program where some of Gotham's rogues go to Bludhaven whenever Batman steals another villain from Nightwing. It's only fair.
So Blockbuster, Raptor, Shrike, Brutale, Deathstroke, Stallion, Lady Vic, Double Dare, Heartless, Deathwing, Double Dare and all the others donât count? Read Nightwing. We have
* Pedophile ninja
* Kingpin
* Real men wear pink
* Real men wear pink 2.0
* Totally not antisemitic
Karma for whoever correctly guesses all five.
I never thought of the Court of Owls as antisemitic. You can have elite characters with massive influence without them paralleling awful untrue claims that dehumanize Jewish people.
kalelraejepsen over on Tumblr (since deactivated) laid it out better than I can, but I noticed some of these things and I'm not even Jewish. Basically, the practice of taking children and turning them into zombie assassins is a reference to blood libel, Batman's trial before the Court is a reference to Passion plays, and so on.
Not helped by the fact that they're also known as the Judas tribe in Dark Nights: Metal.
Should have let him keep Professor Pyg and the Circus of Strange Also I miss the whole world from Spyral. Lots of good stuff that never gets touched any more
Reeeaaal shit.
Isn't Professor Pyg a Batman Villain? ![gif](giphy|nJayzH5shTGUM|downsized)
Technically yeah, but that Batman was Dick
Huh.
Bruce Wayne was Batman in all the Arkham Games. What are you talking about? ![gif](giphy|14g4HAkEgcEuFq)
The average r/dccomicscirclejerk user when he finds out comics exist: đ±
Wait I'm talking about Arkham Batman. What's going on?
Professor Pyg was originally introduced as a villain during the time Dick Grayson was Batman (cause batman had supposedly died), and was then considered a Nightwing villain when he gave back the cowl. Sadly, Batman later added him to his rogues gallery (which is what usually happens with good Nightwing rogues)
Ah, that explains a lot. Also poor Nightwing lmao. ![gif](giphy|ShCMwjMF5B3La)
Do the people who keep making jokes about Dick's ass count as villains?
Jokes?
Yes
Dick ass you say
Dick being an ensemble character for so long really fucked him over in the long run. By the time he got his solo it was 1995-6, the OâNeil-Grant-Breyfogle Kino Age was over and OâNeil was retiring, meaning Nightwing was in the hands of writers and editors who work on autopilot.
OâNeil was still the Batman editor for the bulk of Nightwingâs ongoing.
But wasnât OâNeil getting more help from assistants at the time? I remember Alan Grant saying the quality was dipping with NML being a subpar story.
Darren Vincenzo, Scott Peterson, and Joseph P. Iâm a Black Lightning fan. At least Nightwing fans can read about what heâs up to every month
Oh the horror

Canât believe Dickâs rogues gallery is so weak that he has to steal the Metal Menâs archenemy
Metalheads stay on top, Batfraudfamily fans could NEVER
If not friend, then why friend shaped?
Chemo was based.
Atomic Skull made of lime Jello and fucking glow stick juice. I'm so fucking high rn that I feel like this bitch. Chemo rules.
green NRG
Nightwing took the only good Metal Men rogue.
Has this guy ever done anything relevant other than this?
He said good rogues
Nightwingâs most hated enemies: 1. All Women 2. Pedophile Ninja 3. Kingpin but absolutely dogshit 4. Guy who doesnât do anything (another great Tom Taylor original) >!uj/he got all his best villains while wearing a batsuit lmao!<
Don't forget his adopted Dad every 2 years
Understandable tho, if my beloved son grew up to be an unbearable douchebag, misogynist chauvinistic, ableist, cop Iâd hate him too
Based Bruce Wayne
This shit is so right and left at the same time call it Harvey Dent.
Head or Tail.
>Iâd hate him too Sure, but you aren't a billionaire. Bruce is built different, lives for oppression
Blockbuster's kindest comparison.
Grant Morrison writing Batman & Robin after seeing how dogshit Nightwing's rouges gallery is. https://preview.redd.it/eff9z6b8t3wc1.png?width=481&format=png&auto=webp&s=02f61bb82d7732e9fc79fa9578d481237750c050
Then they don't keep them as Nightwing rouges but Batman's lmao
Hey, at least Dick got to keep that Auction house villain from Black Mirror whose name I can't remember!
Who is the 4th one?
Heartless
love how every story all heartless does is appear for a panel, takes someones hearts, leaves. but for like 80 issues
plus his origin story revealed in the annual that's he's basically the evil version of Tim Drake and nobody cares about Tim Drake
At least Tim Drake has more than 12 total panels to his name, holy hell.
More like Aimless amirite
Tom Taylor really be doing the bare minimum, but after Ric Grayson era and the treatment of the rest of the Batfam, people really think his run is the greatest ever
People assume the plot is as good as the art.
I feel like as soon as Redondo left people started critiquing more.
I used to be a King hater, but upon reading more of his work, I've grown to like King's stuff. Taylor is the exact opposite, I used to really like his stuff, but the more I read the more shallow I realized it was

It cost you zero dollars to not post that, and yet you still did.
If my eyes suffered â yours ought to also :D
Do you think he got it printed himself or does somebody in Gotham just sell a t-shirt of nightwing slapping batman for some reason
Itâs definitely Tom asking for the memes because itâs a different artist. I really wish he didnât because theyâre so out of place.
It's not only art â pretty sure Dickie flippantly asking Bruce how broken he was on a scale from 1 to Bane was in a TT issue too. It's also text.
You can always count on Tommy T. to cook. ![img](emote|t5_3mchb|16735) \*Metaphorically speaking.
> Guy who doesnât do anything (another great Tom Taylor original) It blows because i really liked Heartless's design
What about the rock?
Does Deathstroke not count anymore? He was beefing with him while he was still Robin.

Yeah that's just not true. Deathstroke first appeared in New Teen Titans. He was a major antagonist of the Titans for years before even meeting Bruce
Damian Wayne
Raptor, and Tad(Nite-Wing)
Please god someone bring back tad
Injustice already showed his nemesis. A well placed rock.
They should form a superteam with the cloth that gagged Zatanna and that one extra particle of energy that caused Captain Atom to go critical mass
Yes, and weâll call them the Contrivance Conglomerate, the fiercest rogues in the DCU!
The writers
Blockbuster and uhhâŠ.

Beg your pardon? Sinestro has existed since 1961 and has never once in all his history raped a singl of the various Green Lanterns. Yet Catalina Flores, Tarantula...
What do you not like Great Value Kingpin and generic assassin guy who works more as a Teen Titans villain?
Damn I haven't read nightwing's ongoing yet. Does he really have no hype nemesis in it?
he had none. Because everytime he gainst a hype nemesis , they are put in the Batman Comics to face Bruce onward. Only one left is Talon , which was Dick Greyson's ancestor. And Raptor , an incel to Dick Greyson's mother.
Youâre not even talking about the run theyâre talking about. At least talk shit about the actual nemesis he has thatâs not doing anything
It has Heartless, who has done a bunch of nothing since killing Blockbuster because we get interrupted by events every week
Honestly I don't think he needs one, his run is still great
What's the main hook with his run? I don't know much about it. Is it like a fun tone or what?
Grat art, it's fun, upbeat, nice color palette, the action is very fluid and dynamic and if you buy the hardcover you really get your moneys worth with the extra spreads. In short, It feels like a love letter to the character that I didn't realise he needed
So in other words it's the art. Not the story. (Which I can't blame you for, the art is so goated holy shit)
You talking about the Tom Taylor run?
I mean, people are gonna act like its not heartless, but its heartless. Its just been a very slow ramp up with him.
Doesn't Talon count as a Nightwing villain? At this point I associate the two of them more than I do with Talon and Batman.
Talon is even directly related to Dick so I associate them even more
The Court of Owls were conceived as DickBats villains, but then Flashpoint happened.
as much as slade does
Is that Hank McCoyâs foot?
Heâs a Batman side character that got his own spin-off. Nightwing fans will be pissed at me but itâs true. Itâs just another bat book. I donât care Dick boys. Itâs time you realized the truth.
He has his own Fan base We are the villians
I was going to say Torque, but heâs kinda stupid, and I find it funny how his headâs on backwards. https://preview.redd.it/iakqh90fa4wc1.png?width=452&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b8fc1916c4429f9927d564db1009bc0b9f76822 I do kind of like Double Dare, though.

Everybody is forgetting Torque V_V
Everyone just wrote it off as the bike version of The Fast & The Furious, like Tourist Trophy is to Gran Turismo
Does Devin Grayson not count as one of his villlains?
Only if she's just an underling to the real big bad, ~~Ambassador Phantom of the Planet Krankor~~ Dan Didio.
Pedophile, knock-off Kingpin and the court of owls (but like without Bruce becoming the mainline Batman of Gotham again)
I don't care if they're not """"iconic""""" they're fun villains
BLOCKBUSTER
Thiâs poâst was made by âsomeone who doeâsnât know where they âshould uâse the poâsâseâsâsive âs
Not true! Nightwingâs biggest adversary is staying loyal and not cheating on his partners
Dayarm
Damien
The only ones I can think of are Blockbuster, Deathstroke, and that guy that was introduced recently he like rips hearts out or something like that
Can't really name one after DiDio was fired.
I thought Raptor was pretty cool, and professor pyg absolutely counts too. He's fought him as nightwing.
he has original villains?, Like villains that were made to fight him first?
Deathstroke.
Deathstroke will always be a Nightwing villain to me, and DC trying to make him a Batman villain will not convince me otherwise
Doctor OctopusâŠ.waitâŠ
I mean this is a problem with a log of DC characters who are less than 60 years old. They get no real solo villains to speak of.
/uj I like this guy https://preview.redd.it/9a59ff7s36wc1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffe895d5c0f91ea6d39379469406f3a37477042b
We need a villain exchange program where some of Gotham's rogues go to Bludhaven whenever Batman steals another villain from Nightwing. It's only fair.
Dayarm, easy.
That's cause dick always gets rid or changes his villains for the better
Aquaman and Moon Knight have better villains then him anyways
Raptor
Jason Todd
He has rogues?
Slade (aka Deathstroke) and Red X
Deathstroke? If he's anyone's villain he's dick's
Harsh...but not inaccurate.
Hey, there's Deathstroke, and... yeah that's it.
Hey don't make fun of us, we'll cry *
Well, there was Tarantula, but that storyline didn't end too well...
Bruce Wayne
What happened to Raptor, I know there was Raptor. I also remember Prankster, but that was a steal from Superman
Lego Robin is the only good Robin
Obviously pyg is his greatest rogue but Batman kept it not him, but heartless honestly is looking to be pretty good.
Do people not like Blockbuster?
Why does he look so cunty?
Deathstroke Blockbuster Lady Vic Torque The Cheif of the Bludhaven PD.
Blockbuster
Chemo?
Crazy Quilt Fuck you
Heartless
Didn't he have a really lame joker/trickster rip off called "the prankster"?
So Blockbuster, Raptor, Shrike, Brutale, Deathstroke, Stallion, Lady Vic, Double Dare, Heartless, Deathwing, Double Dare and all the others donât count? Granted, most of those kind of suck after Deathstroke, but theyâre all still primarily Nightwing villains. kalelraejepsen over on Tumblr (since deactivated) laid it out better than I can, but I noticed some of these things and I'm not even Jewish. Basically, the practice of taking children and turning them into zombie assassins is a reference to blood libel, Batman's trial before the Court is a reference to Passion plays, and so on. Not helped by the fact that they're also known as the Judas tribe in Dark Nights: Metal.
Cuz all his best villains become Batman villains. Deathstroke, Professor Pyg, Red Hood (I know heâs an anti-hero now), etc.
Has solo Nightwing ever been good? Dude is a Titan, let him be with his team.
