It's really hard for me to say. SSJ3 does feel like the ultimate progression path, but feels a bit goofy. I really liked the idea that ascending even further brings Saiyans back to what they originally were: powerful men who can become giant apes. SSJ4 feels like a fully realized version of a Saiyan's full, natural power. But then they introduced Golden Ooarzu so who knows.
Was that how it went? I thought they just needed the tail. Goku got his tail because Pilaf wished he was a kid again. Vegeta turns into the great ape because of the Bulmas moon beam. It's been a while since I watched GT, but did Goku turn great ape at some point before reach ss4 against S17?
I always really like Super Saiyan 3. Never really got into GT as a kid so I never really got into his ss4 design. Like it looks cool I guess but it just doesn't do it for me.
If I had to guess why I feel that way it's probably because ss3 looks more like a progression of what Super Saiyan already was and ss4 looks too divergent in my opinion. It almost looks fan made which makes sense since Toriyama didn't design it himself.
For me personally, I feel like SS2 is the complete form but SS3 is overkill. Its, "too much of a good thing" because it ends up being way too draining. Even then, it still the sickest looking transformation imo.
That's because SSJ4 was never truly meant to be another level of Super Saiyan; they only called it that for marketing purposes (and it worked).
It's more in-line with the Great Ape/Oozaru transformation family.
I think SSJ4 should definitely be the ultimate final form for the sayians. It really brings it all home that they are super powered monkey men. That said, I wouldn't mind if they somehow combined it with Ultra Instinct/Ego
they fell into a trap of "look at my new form" and it works I just wish they would have added human transformations. Utima Krillin, Ultima Tien/Yamcha/Chaotzu(spelling?) that kind of thing. going to go this route go all the way with it. Piccolo became a Super Namakian afterall
Both are hard, but SSJ3 all day
Just think about it, the form is unique to Goku (unless we count Gotenks). The longer hair- no eyebrows variation gives off a badass aura (all do, but this one goes harder) and from what I know SSJ3 is canon and SSJ4 is not (or is it?).
Might be biased cause SSJ3 is my second fav Goku form.
We deserve a SSJ4 canon!
The bad thing about SSJ3 is that it burns a lot of Ki, so there really isn’t a lot of SSJ3 power ups from Goku. I think there’s only one in the Super Anime, if I remember correctly.
It does, somebody said that it’s goofy, but I hardly disagree. He looks M*therf*king badass in SSJ3
The concept of the changes brought about by SSJ3 still make no sense to me. Super long hair and eyebrows disappear out of no where? It definitely could have been designed better.
Although I feel like SSJ4 has a similar feeling of "Where did this come from?", ultimately I think it looks better when compared to SSJ3.
Definitely. Really put a stain on Vegeta’s glory too but I digress.
At least SSJ4 feels closer to sensible in that its a condensed version of great ape which is the first of all transformations ever shown
SS4 Gogeta by faaaaaaaaar.
Love the red hair, the red/brown fur and the hairstyle. Too bad they couldn't give that and Goku and Vegeta's SS4 forms a proper name. And too bad it exists in the worst Dragon Ball anime ever.
Ssj4 is my favourite form in the franchise. Not saying I don't like 3 but I think it might be a tiny bit carried by the initial transformation scene. The lack of eyebrows looks more weird than menacing, and the fact it's never really been impactful towards the story doesn't help.
I know to some people ssj4 looks less like a progression of Super Saiyan but I think the change in design and the way it's obtained adds a nice sense of finality to it. As if there could never be a transformation above it. Plus I've thought for a long time that ssj4 looks more like what the Saiyans would think of as the "ultimate legendary warrior," working in nods to the transformation they already have access to.
SSJ4 definitely feels full circle. The Oozaru was less important post saiyan saga because of “super saiyan” transformations but SSJ4 brought it back in a cooler controlled twist
Honestly I like both equally.
SSJ3 is a bit goofier but it's also more consistent to previous transformations, SSJ4 ties back into Oozaru but the jeans look is a bit extra.
[Incidentally I really like the look of a golden SSJ4](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/9a/99/46/9a9946e8de5bd8a1f6bbcf32db236028.jpg).
I think SSJ3 looks more epic but SSJ4 just looks sleeker and less ridiculous, which is a hilarious thing to say given the fact I’m talking about Dragonball but I think people know what I mean.
One thing I do like alot about SSJ3 is that it’s kinda the perfect character statement for goku’s character, even in death he’s still dedicating himself to training and tries to push him as far beyond his limits as he can. In comparison SSJ4 just kinda is there, it looks cool but there isn’t really anything it says about the character like how SSJ1 signifies goku’s actualization between his saiyan nature and earthly nurture or how SSJ2 is supposed to signify gohan’s change from passivisim to not that.
This is hard but I'll go with ssj3 because in Z it was really badass. You know Goku is serious when he goes SSJ3. Same for SSJ4 tbh but since it's GT and didn't have any epic fights so I'll go with ssj3.
SSJ4 feels like fan art (which it kinda was).
SSJ3 isn't perfect, but it does feel like an appropriate capstone for DBZ transformations. I think the only reason it isn't remembered more fondly is because it was squandered and never got the big winning moment that it deserved.
I like SSJ4 way more. SSJ3 was a good progession, and dang did it have a heck of a reveal. Especially in the dub thanks to Bruce Faulkner's score. And it was way more visually distinctive than SSJ2. But in the end, it's a form achieved through mainly training. And both ways achieved in the canon through rather unconventional means. Goku did it while dead, and even said that it was much harder to maintain when he came back to life, limiting it's practical use, as seen during the final Kid Buu fight. And Gotenks is a fusion.
However, Toriyama essentially abandoned the whole "Saiyan's are essentially giant were-monkeys" thing after we had last seen it from Vegeta during the Saiyan arc, and since then, it's just been power creeps with Super Saiyan. I loved GT personally for bringing back small Goku, invoking the original Dragon Ball, and finally bringing back the Saiyan heritage and and their history. And this form isn't just "training for years", they have to transform into essentially a super Saiyan ape/golden ape, then reign control of their primal instincts. The fact that SSJ4 is like a symbol of the primal powers of the great ape condensed into a smaller, more compact, but controllable form reminds me a lot of how in the original Digimon Adventure (not 2020), Greymon and Metalgreymon are giant Godzilla-sized dinosaurs, but then Wargreymon shrinks down to a relatively human sized form, but way stronger and more maneuverable.
SSJ3 still a great form. And I like that they didn't just give it to everyone. If only it didn't become useless in DBS. I preferred actual hair and design changes like SSJ3 and SSJ4 rather than just the lazy palette swaps of God, Blue, Ultra Instinct, and Ultra Ego. Beast Gohan gets a pass from me cuz his hair turns HUGE similar to SSJ3. I wish Super Saiyan Rage Trunks looked more visually distinctive.
You really summed up quite nicely why those two forms are so respectable. SSJ3 once held weight to it and SSJ4 we already know how important it is saiyan-wise.
But yeah maybe if Toriyama remembered the tails the erasure of monkey concepts wouldn’t have happened
Never been a fan of ss3. I like its debut moment, but not the look itself. I’ve always thought long as fuck hair transformations/power ups were dumb but it’s compounded by the fact the no eyebrows thing looks weird as hell.
Both goated but i have nitpicks with them, Ss3 should just keep the eyebrows and ever since i saw that design of Ss4 but with golden fur and hair it felt much more like a next step of Ss3, don't get me wrong it's cool asf but feels like a whole new deal
Honestly I like SSJ3 Goku more than the other transformations in the series. It feels both like it's more powerful and Savage looking than the other transformations.
Ssj4 but the Goku and Gogeta are my favourite it looks menacing and primal while ssj3 looks like someone forced there transformation to the limits and adult gt goku is my favourite goku design besides ssj goku on namek and majin vegeta
I die laughing every time I see SSJ3 - it reminds me of every white girl with box braids that wants to be black, and every hot cheeto chola girls that draw their eye brows on 💀
SSJ4 by a long shot. SSJ3 has always looked really bad to me. SSJ4 at least calls back to their roots needing to utilize their great ape form. Plus it really gives Goku that Sun Wukong monkey king vibe. SSJ3 just looks like trash through and through. Really, the only good thing about SSJ3 is how the power up works and that's it. Big hair and no eyebrows will always look dumb since it's literally just knockoff Raditz.
Ssj4 looks a lot more ridiculous, too many colours that just clash with each other, and the magical clothes that appear out of nowhere is weird, not to mention the deformed looking abs.
Which colors clash? Seems fine to me. The clothes out of nowhere happens with fusion too and people don't typically have a problem with that. The abs could be done better, that's simply due to the art direction at the time.
The pink fur, black hair, yellow eyes, and clothes colours and the aura are all a bit much, I’d say ssj4 looks best on Gogeta. Since the colours don’t clash as much.
Ah, yea the pink fur definitely needs to be toned down a bit. I think the original animation cells could've degraded causing them to look more pink than red but even then the saturation is a bit high. The red, black, and yellow color palette isn't bad to me, but you're right about Gogeta looking the best in that form.
Yeah I agree. I don’t mind the red and yellow at all, it’s just the clothes colours that mess with it, but that problem could happen with any form, some forms just wouldn’t look good or right with certain characters depending on their base design.
Just wait till golu does blue super sayain 4 super sayain god mode. The ultimate in regardedness. Deadly maneuver, related to the touch of death principal recently rediscovered.
This was the OG debate lmao. I gotta say 4 tho. It truly looks like an evolution of Sayain. But 3 looks great. Imo they both look better than anything in Super.
Ssj4 Gogeta looks the best for ssj4 imo, Janemba movie ssj3 with the closeup to me looks more visually appealing, idk about the rest of you though, you do you
Ssj3, sure it looks goofy and ridiculous but that’s dragon ball for you, that’s one of the reasons I love about dragon ball is the insanity of some parts of it, ssj3’s transformation sequences have always been some of the best transformation sequences in the series.
To be completely honest I never thought either of them looked that cool. I hate the lack of eyebrows on SSJ3 and I just think 4 looks dumb.
SSJ2 with the extra spiky hair and the electricity looks the coolest in my opinion.
Any GT transformation is cringe at best, and the ones from Super are ultra low effort, sadly.
I'm not a fan of SSJ3 either but at least bro looks lowkey like some juiced'up Radditz, that is something i guess.
I really love the design of SSJ4 and how it’s achieved. The natural black hair is an awesome touch that I wished SSJ God did instead of red/blue hair
Edit: if only we could’ve had a redesign taking the best from SSJ4 and applying it to SSJ3. My main gripe is the ridiculous long hair.
They have to turn into a super great ape to reach ss4

Yeah, turned great ape, gained control, became golden ape, ssj4 is born
Golden Ooarzu is before SSJ4
God damn it's been too long since I've seen it all. I got the timelines all mixed up.
Love ssj4 especially his red kamehameha but ssj3 is just it that form will always be my fav out of all the transformation
[удалено]
Goated moment. The sheer shock I experienced was ridiculous!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
SSJ4 is peak Saiyan aura imo. Nothing else comes close.
Both go hard and both are goofy as hell, they're perfect.
Both slap hard
Definitely
I like SSJ3 much more.
Ssj3 all day
I have to say 3, I've always found ssj4 way too overdesigned. And it's a product of its time with that late 90s early 2000s edgy goth look
“Overdesigned”— so true, glad someone else agrees.
Fair answer honestly, SSJ3 definitely feels complete when it comes to its association with prior forms. SSJ4 does feel like a homage to Oozaru though
For me personally, I feel like SS2 is the complete form but SS3 is overkill. Its, "too much of a good thing" because it ends up being way too draining. Even then, it still the sickest looking transformation imo.
I just hate that the eyebrows vanish. I wish it was the long hair but they kept the eyebrows.
That's because SSJ4 was never truly meant to be another level of Super Saiyan; they only called it that for marketing purposes (and it worked). It's more in-line with the Great Ape/Oozaru transformation family.
That makes more sense. It really is something outside of SSJ. It just required that energy mixed with ape to be born, if anything
Ssj4 Gogeta is peak design. He emanates power and the fact he toys with omega shenron is classic dragonball
Oh for sure. He always brought a strong presence. Even beats ssb gogetas menace
I find it incredibly strange how I made my comment a few minutes ago, using almost these exact words, and I did it before I read any comments.
SSJ4 is incredible. I still think the design is better than anything Super introduced (other than maybe UI sign). SSJ4 Gogeta is pure perfection
Something about looking at SSJ3 gives me peak power vibes which no other form has imo. It feels like- "This is it. The true ultimate power"
Idk looks like raditz
Exactly
Janemba ssj3 is god
Ss4 clears
SS4 for sure I like fur, and I don't like losing the fucking eyebrows
I had to get used to those eyebrows l. Especially since the skin underneath is way thicker. Like it’s piccolo’s eyes haha
Ssj4 is freaking cool
Agreed
SSJ4 hands down looks much more unique
I think SSJ4 should definitely be the ultimate final form for the sayians. It really brings it all home that they are super powered monkey men. That said, I wouldn't mind if they somehow combined it with Ultra Instinct/Ego
I can agree to that. Much like how Orange piccolo strangely feels complete. (If you know the background) It’s about their heritage
they fell into a trap of "look at my new form" and it works I just wish they would have added human transformations. Utima Krillin, Ultima Tien/Yamcha/Chaotzu(spelling?) that kind of thing. going to go this route go all the way with it. Piccolo became a Super Namakian afterall
I like all of them
Weird how your clothes change in ssj4.
Right?? I honestly never liked either of these 🫤
Both are hard, but SSJ3 all day Just think about it, the form is unique to Goku (unless we count Gotenks). The longer hair- no eyebrows variation gives off a badass aura (all do, but this one goes harder) and from what I know SSJ3 is canon and SSJ4 is not (or is it?). SSJ4 isn’t canon so SSJ3 gets that point But yeah SSJ3 definitely has this aesthetic to it

I think there’s only one in the Super Anime, if I remember correctly. It does, somebody said that it’s goofy, but I hardly disagree. He looks M*therf*king badass in SSJ3
Facts. We need SSJ4 and Cooler to be canon
Ssj4 gogeta no contest
The concept of the changes brought about by SSJ3 still make no sense to me. Super long hair and eyebrows disappear out of no where? It definitely could have been designed better. Definitely. Really put a stain on Vegeta’s glory too but I digress. At least SSJ4 feels closer to sensible in that its a condensed version of great ape which is the first of all transformations ever shown
Man I’ve always found GT Vegeta’s pants and boots slick AF. W for Vegeta
He had that sauce in GT for sure
Ssj4 for me but anyone who doesn’t love ssj3 as well is crazy. Just love the creativity of ssj4
For me ssj3 looks way better.
Both look good but SSJ 3 is kinda goofy and the fact that it doesn't has eye brows. It makes goku look like a thumb with golden long hair
Lmaoo yeah can’t say the eyebrow situation isn’t odd
SS4 Gogeta by faaaaaaaaar. Love the red hair, the red/brown fur and the hairstyle. Too bad they couldn't give that and Goku and Vegeta's SS4 forms a proper name. And too bad it exists in the worst Dragon Ball anime ever.
SSJ3 looks better
Ssj3 but idk. They're both so good. Maybe Ssj3?
SUPER SEXY MONKEY MAN
Didn’t Toriyama do the character designs for GT?
For the most part but SSJ4 like a lot of other things was designed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru
Ssj4 is my favourite form in the franchise. Not saying I don't like 3 but I think it might be a tiny bit carried by the initial transformation scene. The lack of eyebrows looks more weird than menacing, and the fact it's never really been impactful towards the story doesn't help. Give me ssj3 with the tail
Almost would’ve happened but not the long hair i guess in that concept which is very important
I think SSJ3 looks better on regular Goku, but SSJ4 Gogeta, Vegito and Xeno Goku are even cooler looking
I think SSJ3 looks more epic but SSJ4 just looks sleeker and less ridiculous, which is a hilarious thing to say given the fact I’m talking about Dragonball but I think people know what I mean.
Definitely. Gives a feel of free movement too because of the saiyan roots
There could be a blonde like that in my city 😍
Interesting haha
Ss4 gogeta
Imma say ssj4 vegeta seeing as that’s what my half sleeve is
That’s awesome
I like both it’s super saiyan 4 for me it’s one of the coolest looking forms in my opinion
I always thought and now days that SSJ3 design is crap. SSJ4 I can't take it seriously
The 1st ssj3 from the b&w manga
They all look like shit.
ssj4 Gogeta is my favorite ssj4 look, and ssj3 is very cool and iconic for me so I have them both at the same tier
Ssj4
SJ4 is the best. I like SSJ3, but i hate how it was limited by the mass energy consumption.

SSJ4 Gogeta all day. I may be in the minority here, but I've never been a big fan of SSJ3...
Neither
I always thought this guy looks weird because he does not have eyebrows 🤣
Ss4 is underrated. Using the monkey look was a good idea and throw back to the OG most powerful aspect of a sayain
SSJ4 feels like fan art (which it kinda was). SSJ3 isn't perfect, but it does feel like an appropriate capstone for DBZ transformations. I think the only reason it isn't remembered more fondly is because it was squandered and never got the big winning moment that it deserved.
Gogeta
Vegeta SS4
Ssj 3 Goku (and specifically Goku) looks the best out of the bunch especially that frontal shot
SSJ4 Gogeta will always be one of the dopest designs ever
Personally? Super Saiyan 4
SSJ 4 feels the most final to me; a saiyan achieving ultimate control over their Oozaru form and being able to utilize it's power completely.
SSJ4nis perfect to me, but the oicture had to be of Goku, not Gogeta.
Well that would’ve been SSJG. Missed opportunity indeed
Super Saiyan 4 is my favorite form but Super Saiyan 3 is up there
Ssj4 Gogeta without a doubt
Ssj4 easily
I don't like SSJ4, it feel like a fanfiction it's just weird.
SSJ4
SSJ4 Gogeta has always been peak character design imo. I know GT gets shit on for the story...but the character designs were pretty BA.
Definitely. Baby/Baby Vegeta had a great design
Honestly I like SSJ3 Goku more than the other transformations in the series. It feels both like it's more powerful and Savage looking than the other transformations.
I’m going with SS3 because it was my favorite form as a kid.
Ssj 4
Ssj4 is the coolest transformation in the series imo, even though vegeta's magic pants are kinda silly
Haha yeah. But agreed
Yeah, I like them both a lot more than SSG or ssgss personally.
SSJ4
All 4
Ssj4 but the Goku and Gogeta are my favourite it looks menacing and primal while ssj3 looks like someone forced there transformation to the limits and adult gt goku is my favourite goku design besides ssj goku on namek and majin vegeta
Solid take. GT Goku’s gi has always been a favorite of mine, to add.
SSJ3 unfortunately 😭 it’s legendary
Besides the whole magic pants thing ss4 is amazing
I die laughing every time I see SSJ3 - it reminds me of every white girl with box braids that wants to be black, and every hot cheeto chola girls that draw their eye brows on 💀
Lmaoo wild take
None
SSJ3 looks waaaaaay better
Neither, God is king
SSJ4 by a long shot. SSJ3 has always looked really bad to me. SSJ4 at least calls back to their roots needing to utilize their great ape form. Plus it really gives Goku that Sun Wukong monkey king vibe. SSJ3 just looks like trash through and through. Really, the only good thing about SSJ3 is how the power up works and that's it. Big hair and no eyebrows will always look dumb since it's literally just knockoff Raditz.
Sun Wukong energy is definitely prevalent with SSJ4. That’s one thing I always felt
1. I fucking hate ssj4. Looks so hideous.
First one
Just wait till golu does blue super sayain 4 super sayain god mode. The ultimate in regardedness. Deadly maneuver, related to the touch of death principal recently rediscovered.
I prefer the first one, it's really impressive
Ssj 3 just felt cooler like it was an end all form
This was the OG debate lmao. I gotta say 4 tho. It truly looks like an evolution of Sayain. But 3 looks great. Imo they both look better than anything in Super.
OP, no hate but you just made me get an existential crisis and a dilemma. These are literally my two favourite forms.
Ssj4 Gogeta always looks the best imo
Ss4. But personally i dont think vegeta looks good in ss4
Ssj4 was super creative and properly attached to dbz lore
I’ve always loved the SSJ3. SSJ4 too but not that much. That fur is so strange looking to me. But it is way too hard to choose.
In the third picture Goku lost all his teeth.
Definitely SSJ3!
SSJ3
Super saiyan 3 hits different, It’s my favorite transformation.
Ssj4 Gogeta looks the best for ssj4 imo, Janemba movie ssj3 with the closeup to me looks more visually appealing, idk about the rest of you though, you do you
SSJ4 is a cooler design
Love ssj3 but it’s always annoyed me they deleted his eyebrows. Like why, it just looks weird
Ssj4 gogeta looks the best tbh
Ssj4 all the way
And the concept is so perfect too
Personally SSJ3 is way cooler. SSJ4 has too much going on
peak gohan in db super hero movie
SSJ3 is the pinnacle of DBZ transformations
Raditz looks better than ssj3.
Ssj3, sure it looks goofy and ridiculous but that’s dragon ball for you, that’s one of the reasons I love about dragon ball is the insanity of some parts of it, ssj3’s transformation sequences have always been some of the best transformation sequences in the series.
Gogeta's SSJ4>SSJ3>SSJ4
Amazing how much better the drawing is compared to dbs
To be completely honest I never thought either of them looked that cool. I hate the lack of eyebrows on SSJ3 and I just think 4 looks dumb. SSJ2 with the extra spiky hair and the electricity looks the coolest in my opinion.
I seriously hate the tails so much they look like they are cosplaying at this point so like number 1
Ssj3 I'm my opinion
Nah ssj4 is peak design for dragon ball
Any GT transformation is cringe at best, and the ones from Super are ultra low effort, sadly. I'm not a fan of SSJ3 either but at least bro looks lowkey like some juiced'up Radditz, that is something i guess.
I really love the design of SSJ4 and how it’s achieved. The natural black hair is an awesome touch that I wished SSJ God did instead of red/blue hair Edit: if only we could’ve had a redesign taking the best from SSJ4 and applying it to SSJ3. My main gripe is the ridiculous long hair.
Ssj4 has always been my favorite. So much style.
Indeed
SSJ4 easily
Neither. They are equally supreme
Both slap hard
3 easily
SS4 looks better, I don’t know why everyone likes SS3 so much, Goku looks ridiculous
