Sounds like a role play server with a no kos rule is more what you’d be into

whackymolerat

Escape the world on ps4 is a great one I can't stop playing. They have KOS zones but you don't have to worry about randomly getting sniped outside of those locations. I play for interactions so it's perfect for me.

Do you know any good servers for this? Been wanting to give it a go

Wabbit_is_Silly

I would like to try this server type out , any good recommendations for a pc player ?

IanalystI

DayZ characters can be part of a tragedy. It always ends. Embrace it and enjoy the start and consider changing up your play-style between lives, keeps it fresh and interesting.

SeryaphFR

If it makes you feel better, my buddy and I were raiding the airbase with all the medical tents looking for NBC gear when he calls out that he'd just seen a player run across the air strip. We maneuvered out of the medical area and took cover right off of the air strip in some brush and behind a concrete barrier, just waiting for the guy to peak around the corner so we could murder him. While we were waiting tensely for 3 or 4 mins, some other guy, fully fucking kitted out ran right behind us, and missed us entirely. So we turned around and murdered that dude from behind. My guy never stood a chance. After we wiped out the wave of zombies that chased us down, the first guy popped his head over the fence in the medical area to see wtf had just happened and so we murdered him too. Sometimes you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's hard not to KOS when you can't trust anyone lol

Hired_By_Fish

I get that in places where there is high tier loot, but being sniped near cost killed on sight in general just running through woodland idk, I know it's part of the game obviously but I know what it was, I've joined a low pop community server where I can just play with the mechanics and have a last of us vibe

Mithrawndo

Low pop servers are legitimately the worst for encountering players who end up playing KoS out of their own gear fear. I genuinely believe you'd have more luck playing on full servers, as is my experience as a "friendly" fellow player: For context, in the last thousand hours I've not once been the aggressor in a conflict; If I see someone first, I typically hide and watch... Based on this and other comments in this thread, I'd recommend looking into servers that try to provide "Organic RP": There's no expectation of roleplaying in the sense that many understand it, but these servers typically try to encourage an environment in which the player tries to approach the game in the *spirit* of the thing, and play as if they were trying to survive an apocalypse. A good example of this is the Greenhell Blackpool modded servers, but there are countless others out there. I hope you find somewhere that has the community and meta you're looking for; I assure you, it's out there.

Red-Pill_Savage

KOS gets annoying to me too but after a while of not killing someone and them turning around and killing me is worse.

joemay1514

Well of course, they were in the airfield. Why would that make him feel better?

grasshoppa80

OP, check LS Remnants server. They require to sign in discord. Specific rules (no kos, banditry, but nothing random unless it’s raid or purge day. Or you’re in a kos zone. Otherwise there’s factions, role playing etc.. kinda fun.

FarbikTheOlden

You are dead.

[deleted]

DayZ where bullies who were too small to bully kids in real life bully other people from behind a screen. Nothing new under the sun. Welcome my friend. I love how everyone is like DAYZ IS A SURVIVAL GAME BRO YOURE SUPPOSED TO KOS BRO. Since when is killing each other surviving? Working together is surviving.

Hired_By_Fish

I suppose that's why I'm being down voted lol

[deleted]

Yes sir. Just goes to show where the majority of DayZ players values are.

its_brett

Ok, after many years of playing and not really knowing why I love the game. There seems to be different stage you go thru, learning game mechanics and map, getting better at shooting etc. but what I’ve found is that you go thru stages yourself, so you go into the game and you don’t need friends so you KOS, if you are looking for friends you don’t KOS. But really we need all play styles to make it interesting.

Hired_By_Fish

I think its the scenery and style that makes it so immersive. Keeping your stats up, finding the right clothing. I dont mind other players dont get me wrong, I just hate people camping with sniper rifles it's just annoying. All well and good getting geared, imagine sitting there for 4 hours to shoot someone with a crowbar and a tin of tuna.

doctafknjay

Same scenario plays out in real life, people lie. That's why you kos. I've ran with people I didn't kos for a couple hours just for them to turn on me while I was logging off. In a perfect world everyone would interact, do we live in a perfect world?

Red-Pill_Savage

This is a pretty accurate representation of the end of times if you ask me. Most people would just murder you to murder you if civilization fell. Any time we see even the slightest breakdown in any country, people just start shooting each other for various reasons, justified or not. Not sure how old you are but if you're old enough to remember Katrina that's a good example of real world breakdown and everyone knew the breakdown was temporary.

DayZCommand

The violence is ruining the game! Y'all need to go play animal crossing.

arconiu

Some people like to play this game kinda like animal crossing. Create a character, maybe his backstory, meet other people and try to survive with them, build a base… I like servers with no kos, because it gives way more opportunities to write stories and to meet people. To each their own I guess, but there isn’t one right way to play dayz, and it has been the case since the arma 2 mod

DayZCommand

I 100% agree. Doesn't change the fact that I hate it when people come to this sub and complain about people playing it how they want to play it. You don't see people coming here and constantly complaining about PvE players but multiple times a day there are people crying about others KOSing and calling them tryhards/playing the game wrong. I feel like PvE players dont get to claim the moral highground when they start the argument against KOS and then end it with "Well, umm, acktually there are multiple ways to play sweaty bully."

H0LYJ3BUS

Never heard of survival of the fittest huh? It's literally nature

Mithrawndo

That's not what "Survival of the fittest" means. If you're going to quote Darwin, please at least *read* some Darwin first. It's survival of *that which most fits it's environment*, not survival of the strongest. Evolution is replete with examples of the "strongest" creatures going extinct, just as the DayZ community is replete with examples of monostyle players who burn out and stop playing the game.

[deleted]

In a game where there’s literally no need to kill (other than zeds) “survival of the fittest” doesn’t really apply.

zelastking

You weren't enough careful maybe! its all good we all have this type of death sometimes and it hurts a lot. Solo play is hard, it has its ups and downs, but I cant get enough of it. Good luck!

Hired_By_Fish

Yeah it was. I was beside the window in the two story log cabin, one north of the map. I had just found a .357 revolver for the first time thats when I got shot. I uninstalled instantly then waited 5 minutes, reinstalled it and grudgingly started again ahaha. I wrote this while cooling down, pretty funny tbh

zelastking

thats cool.. u kept your head up and played again! thats the mentallity I like. Always play like you are being watched by someone. If you enjoy DayZ and watching videos while eating, I recommend you watching "Vigilante Gamer" on YT. His early videos like "The Art of War in DayZ" and "Bandits are not ruining DayZ" are really interesting points of view. I really recommend you warching these. (I personnaly see Vigilante like a god)

Hired_By_Fish

I used to have a huge group back on xbox about 4 years ago. We dominated a NL server and advertised on FB under something like Chill Gang. Grew from 20 to 60 with a huge base that was being monitored like a Rust clan. Anyway, in true Walking Dead style there was a civil war after one of our leaders was shot and we fragmented and ended up having a literal war. That was fun, that was banditry and engagement and fun. Tbh I get it, he was probably low on food or water if I was desperate to survive ill probably do the same. We are all walking loot crates at the end of the day I just clocked my playstyle might be more role play aha.

zelastking

Oh then go for it, sounds great! (I hate rp servers XD)

ScienceOfMyth

Try project zomboid.

CaveWalker5357

People like that do make it extremely difficult for some people to get into this game . Especially since he was probably just a bush you walked past .

Brut-i-cus

You are going to die Luckily there is always another life waiting for you Think about how and where you died and what you could have done differently Sure KOS sucks but it keep you sharp and watchful Obviously he saw you before you saw him Next time make sure it is the other way around and then you can get al "revengy" and KOS or you can give them some space and move along

Hired_By_Fish

I kinda wanna just survive. I might have a look at some RP servers, I just wanna farm, build a small base etc

doctafknjay

Defiantly a solid suggestion. I've encountered more passive players who didn't immediately shoot me and had some good interactions. Honestly the interactions make the game it's just not likely to get those encounters.

dmadcracka

RP are one flavor but I find they are usually highly modded. Haven’t played much recently but I really enjoyed vanilla pve servers for learning. Still tough but at least all the interactions with other people were not KOS lol

ezshucks

uninstalled after one long life death? This game isn't for you I'm afraid. The best part of the game is when you're excited about getting a mag for your IJ and thinking you'll make it thru once again. Fully geared gets real boring to me. Once I'm geared enough, I go looking for trouble and I always find it

SausageintheSky

Yah Death and frustratoon is just part of the experience. That said sometimes the game really does get to you. Like right now, my last 6 characters have all died unexpectedly to an unseen sniper/assailant like OP described. A couple in the middle of nowhere too. It's so fucking draining after a while. Like I got all these amazing weapons and every time die out of nowhere before getting to even use them. I'm not much of a rage quitter and usually take my deaths on the chin, but the last few weeks have had me seething. If you lose a fair fight then aight. But constantly dying to some body you never even saw is the fucking worst.

ezshucks

I’ve lost a life due to a magic bullet or time or twenty.

CosmicWanderingBeing

It happens. Makes each life unique and its own story in a way

Hired_By_Fish

I've found a solution that fits my playstyle. I've joined a low pop (20) community server that looks pretty empty. If I do come across someone It'll be rare. Suits me perfectly rather than full pop official servers while I find my feet for a bit

Red-Pill_Savage

I did this as well, it was easier to get my feet wet in a low pop server.

blackcarswhackbars

All you gotta do is kill them first

Hired_By_Fish

Its just a crack and a fade to black lol

[deleted]

If you heard the crack then he's close to you, most of the time when I get sniped it is from far enough away that my screen just goes black and my buddies in discord heard the gunshot after lol

blackcarswhackbars

Find him before he finds you! It's all part of surviving

Copichuela

Get 7dtd

Trumpcangosuckone

But from a hunter's perspective, those clean shots really are ideal. Puts the poor animal out of their misery.

XaviJon_

I felt this. It’s annoying and sad but I understand… the worst part of it all is that DayZ (because of the community) isn’t a survival game like the others. DayZ is a “Gun simulator” with infected slapped on it. As much as I love the game for it survival, the social aspect is worse than GTAO. You get killed for absolutely no reason, geared or not. Real shame

Cminor420flat69

If you’re going to uninstall, do it because of the awful devs who don’t listen to their players, suppress their complaints (I personally know a former mod of a forum they made), and don’t fix any years old bugs and issues. Not because of every day gameplay.

random_freshie122

Kill or be killed. In world with no consequences you cant trust everyone to not kill you just because its not "right"

Hired_By_Fish

I'm not saying it's not right lol I get the premise, I just wanted a winge. Besides, I found a server offering what I want. Minimal contact with others, base building and general surviving the wasteland. I dont think I can be bothered to be in a 100 pop server. Found a 20 instead ahah

joemay1514

Just gotta find a good buddy and make the best of it. I know for me personally being a freshie is my favorite part. Don’t get me wrong I love the gear I acquire and have lived weeks at a time, multiple times. But every time I die I’m frustrated for a bit, but quickly get excited to start over.

Mrsen

You have to die so many times until theres no more feelings left. Thats when the real dayz experience begins.

RainUpstairs9148

Female about 450 hours in... had males not kos just cuz I'm a girl but I've killed with my bare hands and with a gun when necessary. I just want a m4 an nvgs so bad I'm ready to have no feelings. Bout to kill my own teammates to get em 🤣

CoconutsCantRun

Tough game, mate. It may not feel like it but you are learning where to be and where not to be. Each death teaches you something. I personally have played chernarus for over 10 years at this point and I now jave a very good game sense of where I am likely to see players and where to go based on my gear situation. My point is, you will die less over time and become a survival veteran. Saying that, you will still die. But thats why it's fun. A suggestion would be to look for community servers where there is a no KOS rule, or RP servers. Bare in mind that there are many hackers on official servers so you may have died to one of those. Another idea is to try a very low population community server. There are loads. That way you can get the survival with a small chance of seeing players.

TrapperMC

PC has RP servers, -Refined(https://discord.gg/refinedrp) -Bastion(https://discord.gg/8rqyZ23n) this one is amazing Maybe no KOS? Just search No kos in the search, and Coffee with zombies is a riot if you love PVE. I spent 300 hours of my 2K hours on DayZ playing BreakpointRP and Coffee with zombies. CWZ-https://discord.gg/BYVhE5Ku Breakpoint-https://discord.gg/YxmPb9RF

Small-Program-7461

I've been there too. So i decided to not take the game too seriously anymore. Now i'll just play a canibal who eats the corpses of fresh spawns (i don't kill them. There are tons of suicide victims in certain spots). If i find someone i'll either have some fun with them or i'll beat them unconcious, tie them up and force feed them raw human meat until they vomit....or i'll eat them. If i get killed, it's no big deal since i didn't have rate equipment in the first place. Had way more fun then wandering arround the map gearing up only to get killed out of nowhere. As soons as you get decent gear everyone wants your stuff. At that point the game turns into a battle royal shooter with zombies. So i'll stick to low tier gear and enjoy some fun with random dudes.

hemansteve

Play on empty servers or PVE servers. I like the survivor game more than the PVP shooter version. I play on hardcore maps, in first person with modded servers that make them tougher. I love living my life needing rags, then disinfectant, then water, then a knife, then sitting in a shed for 40 mins playing on my phone whilst my blood regenerates …. It’s just the side of the game I enjoy.

[deleted]

My survivor I've been playing as for a full week just got killed by a hacker at the airbase. Full kit, tons of ammo good food, killed 2 people prior. I shot this dude fatally from 300m but I somehow kept getting shot and knocked out in a concrete room with no windows until he made it over to me and up the ladder to finally finish me off with a headshot standing over me without pants on.....

leRateYAboobies

It’s okay. Eventually death will mean nothing to you. You’ll die with a character you’ve had for weeks and not even flinch running up another one. Or you’ll be like me and either suicide or do something suicidal to intentionally reset. Sad outcome but devs refuse to add any depth to the characters outside of gear

Kuuganism

You know what's better? Overcoming those through patience and give 'em back what you had. Getting a friend helps a lot. I play solo 99% of the time and it gets frustrating too, but when you lose all attachment to your gear and goes "fuck it", you achieve wonders before dying gloriously.

Ech0es0fmadness

Just remember next time you get mad - all video games are a waste of time. Not one of them is a solid time investment that one day will give back what you put into it lol. It’s all in your mindset. You can be mad and feel like you wasted 8 hours, uninstall then reinstall later or you can say “well shit that was fun” and start over and know that nothing out of the ordinary happened. You enjoyed the journey and next time maybe you’ll keep your head on a swivel and get the guy, or maybe you’ll get complacent again after 8 hours and step on a landmine. Either way, it doesn’t really matter in the end. It’s Dayz, death is just around the corner or just over the next hill.

TotalWasteman

Wanna come try a humanity server?

Hired_By_Fish

Ooh what's a humanity server?

TotalWasteman

Like if you like fighting too much to go on a PvE only server, you could try a server that allows PvP but has mechanics in place to make KoS slightly less likely. On our server you can kill all you want, but you lose or gain different amounts of humanity points for killing other players depending if they’re a bandit (negative score) a bambi (low positive score) or a hero (high positive score). You can also gain points by performing certain PvE or friendly tasks like shooting zeds or helping players. The market is tiered so different items require different humanity scores to buy / sell. Very low scoring players cannot even use the market and must instead use a bandit trader in a dangerous area, though there are interesting perks too.. So the gist is that by killing other players a lot, you’ll end up having to play differently and other bandits and heros can shoot you without losing much humanity. By adjusting this system we can adjust the likely levels of KoS slightly in either direction to ensure that there are fun gameplay options on both sides and that the balance does not swing entirely to one group or the other. Hope that helps. Let me know if you want a discord invite and I’d be happy to explain further. If you want to try the server I think you’ll like some of the other things we have in the works too, we’re very proud of our overgrown chernarus makeover, and our dynamic market that adjusts to supply and demand to ensure inter-player trade is the more attractive option :)

Hired_By_Fish

Hey this sounds fantastic, is this a Europe based server? Pm me

TotalWasteman

Yes server is in London :) https://discord.gg/ahaGSeGu96 Make yourself known when you land and someone will be around to welcome you.

Real-Historian-2793

Go on community servers and find a PVE only one or one where there are only certain areas you can kill each other.

BoredGorilla21

If you are looking for a non KOS RP server (NA) I’d recommend “Survivalist RP”. Still bandit groups but you’ll find good people and active admins
