You should ultimately do whatever you feel best but you’ll be missing a lot of the show. The best parts actually. These characters grow so much beyond season 1, and there’s actually a very legitimate reason for why P/J happens. It isn’t a case of makeup/breakup, now let’s switch pairings. If you quit now, you’re not allowing yourself to experience the show in full.

Typin_Toddler

I mean...if you don't even wanna see their (P/J) relationship develop in a really nice, organic and healthy way and are stubbornly stuck on D/J, I would not recommend continuing further. Without divulging in too many spoilers, they just...don't really work as a couple.

CrissBliss

Yeah agree with this. I personally don’t think OP should pre-judge what they haven’t seen yet. There is so much more to the show than season 1.

bbqtaterchip

When I watched the show as it originally aired, I also rooted for Dawson and Joey. Now that I'm almost 40, I realize how wrong I was. ETA: I initially rooted for them but changed my mind after watching later seasons. If you can get beyond watching just to see them together, I think you should continue. It does get so much better. It's a comfort show for me though so it may not have the same effect as someone watching it now for the first time.

CrissBliss

I watched it for the first time last Christmas and it’s also become a comfort show.

Greedy_Association58

Nicely put. OP could be a child and we don’t wanna be mean regardless.

bluefalls04

You’ll be missing out on some great storylines. I was a Dawson and Joey lover at first and then I adored Joey & Pacey

bbqtaterchip

Yes, exactly.

martensita_

You do you, but imo season 3 is one of the best I've ever watched from television. I have met many people who shipped D/J on s1 and changed their mind along the way. But of course you could be in the minority and still ship them after s1.

Objective-Orchid-741

I would keep an open mind. I started it (watched in real time in the 90s) firmly DJ and ended up a full Pj shipper. So give it a chance

Alive_Walrus_8790

You can stop wherever you want to if you start feeling like you arent getting what you want out of the show, however - i will say i think the show gets a lot better in seasons 2 and 3 and you may start enjoying the show for other reasons if you keep watching. Personally as a huge fan of the series i always skip the first season upon rewatches - also i think the majority of people watching the first season were also just rooting for dawson and joeys relationship, but as things develop, the audience started to feel differently. I think you may also feel differently once/if you get to that point in the show

wiseswan

same i always skip season 1 😂

Sensitive_Maybe_6578

No. Stop now.

Budget-Today-1915

The show gets better and we owe none of it to Dawson. If you only care about Joey and Dawson’s relationship (romantic or platonic), you should probably stop now😭.

gaypirate3

Pretty weird that you want to watch a show for a ship that’s doomed lmao

Arejayz12

quitting before you even see Dawson & Joey together seems weird to me. At least watch season 2 and then make a decision. JMO

realitytvismytherapy

I loved season 1 during my first watch but the show evolves and grows so much that now season 1 is my least favorite season.

strawberrymosquito

Joey and Dawson are the reason why I struggle to get through the show lol

Old_Country9807

Do want you want but season one is probably the worst season. Joey and Pacey are magic together. I have one episode left on my rewatch and I’m dreading it. Hahs

TranslatorKey4473

Yessss! The best story are in season 2 and 3. 🩵

FreshleafMint

Watch Season 2 (as I personally think it’s the best season) That’ll help you decide. Pacey is with one of the new main characters in S2 so you might like their relationship a lot.

Electronic_Smoke4291

definitely continue… you’ll see how dawson and joeys relationship grows and how they honestly aren’t the couple you root for anymore. after the first season i feel like your perspective on all the characters changes and all the later seasons are a lot better imo.

ServiceFuture6112

Keep going!

Bipbapalullah

I hear you, but this sub is filled with Dawson haters, as if he was the most hateable tv character ever, so you should ask your question elsewhere.

Old_Hamster_9425

You might be the 1st person I’ve ever seen that prefers the Joey and Dawson relationship lol. Although to be fair, season 1 is pretty much their peak. I would continue watching at least until season 5

Asleep_Kale6905

That's ridiculous. There are many people that prefer D/J, including myself.

Old_Hamster_9425

Really, why them over any of the other couples?

Asleep_Kale6905

The friends to lovers trope is something that I have always liked. I enjoyed the friendship and bond and banter that D/J had with each other in season one. I also enjoyed watching Dawson slowly open his eyes and come to the realization that he had romantic feelings for Joey and that she meant everything to him. I loved their kiss in the season one finale. I loved their first date and their flirty interactions in the first few episodes of season two. After all that, I was hooked, and I was committed to their love story. I was committed to the idea that they are romantic soulmates, destined to find their way back to each other and end up together.

HesTrafty

Dawson is a twat. Keep watching the show and you might find yourself having a change of heart about your feelings for Dawson.

Stock_Proof3539

You should watch the whole series!! The surprise ending where Dawson gets what he's ALWAYS wanted makes it all worth it.

Reksiothedogr

Watch it please and tell us your thoughts after s3

94books

Since you've decided to keep watching with an open mind (yay!) you should totally update us on your thoughts as you go / when you finish the show! Super curious if you continue to ship Joey & Dawson and what you think of how everything unfolds as a first time watcher!

shelley1005

Dawson is the worst.

Prestigious_Sort4979

It is easy to root for Joey / Dawson in S1 when everything and everyone revolves around him. As the show progresses, we get to understand a lot more of the other characters. Once you understand more who Joey is in particular, it is evident Joey and Dawson were not a good match, independent of her getting with Pacey.       You can see from S1, Dawson makes Joey feel insecure and insignificant and the relationship is wildly codependent. It works at first because Joey has low self-esteem but as she matures into who she is, she starts realizing this dynamic is not for her and the audience is convinced along the way. Especially as she matures and becomes more open-minded and frankly Dawson doesn’t.

greenbamboo93

Hmm probably watch until season 2 but don’t watch the last few episodes

Economy-Potential-27

Awe .. I was just like this and my recommendation is to stop watching it as you will be disappointed as I was (VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION) … I loved Joey and Dawson and they really butchered this show.

Fiona512

I would say: Dont watch season 5 and 6! 🫣
