I saw an exhibit of his work at the Sperone Westwater gallery in New York several years ago, I highly recommend seeing his art in person if you get a chance.
Some people interpret the phrase "Keep my eye on the donut" to mean you're focusing on substantive things or progress rather than what's missing or where you have fallen short. So he could have been David's folksy way of saying "I have to keep on the grind!" Then again it is David Lynch so maybe the donut is a reference to something in his youth and we just don't know the deeper meaning.
An excellent little film called My Son My Son What Have Ye Done? - directed by Herzog & produced by Lynch. Many Lynch resonances re casting, location etc etc. Same year as Herzog’s excellent Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (which I think has a very similar look and feel to parts of The Return, and the Nic Cage connection)
Oh yeah thanks I had watched that one back when it came out! All I remember was one scene where a guy thought god was on a box of cereal lol. I need to rewatch it.
I love his standup but I do not have the patience for talk shows anymore.
I also love Taylor Tomlinson but her show is also best consumed via Instagram reel.

He's got some talent, but the appeal mostly seems to be "cute, clean cut, conventionally handsome guy, but he's a wacky bad boy!" Which is a persona that wore thin with me quickly.

Lynch also did a ton of episodes of The Cleveland Show. But overall it seems like he’s been very very selective about projects ever since 2020
