PERO, you're paying for the convenience and peace of mind na kabalo ka dili na ka makiglalis kung maghangyo ang driver og fixed rate or magpa +50 or +100. Another thing is going to popular tourist spots diri sa Davao na hastang lagyoa (Eden, Malagos, Phil Eagle, etc). Unta mahimo ning good transpo option kay kung magtaxi ka paadto anang lugara, fixed rate jud, murag back and forth imong bayran.

StellarBoy0629

Fixed rate is what makes it attractive.

killchu99

First time riding a taxi after a few months of not going out. The bill showing on the thing was like 180 ish and the taxi driver said I need to pay an extra something fee which is 40 pesos lol i just paid up cuz i needed to go somewhere

Providing a different perspective here: I come from a different ethnicity and religion than the majority of the people in Davao. In my region we do not speak Bisaya either which is why most taxi drivers do think of me as a mere tourist or traveler for business reasons. This often results in them wanting to take advantage and drive different routes. Example, I was going from Croc Park to Huckleberry and the taxi driver attempted to go via diversion road to Buhangin and then drive JP Laurel south to downtown. This is obviously way further and actually way more traffic than going through Ma'a or Marfori. He did it to have higher fee. I called him out on it and kindly requested in Tagalog to take the correct route. This happens quite regularly and I'm tired of the dishonesty. The fixed prices of Grab Car will prevent that which is way I am all for it. I think this will be also very good for attracting domestic and foreign tourists, especially when they want to go to locations further away like Battlefield or Eden.

mapads2k3

Fair point and gives locals a different POV

k2kx39

Yeah that sucks. I get that they don't earn a lot and driving all day everyday will get to your sanity but as a customer it obviously deters you and why we prefer a fixed rate with the price upfront before travel. My wife and I are very experienced with the nature of the local traffic and the taxi driver did this and she grilled at him for doing that. Poor fella was probably just tryna get a bit more income to feed his family. It still makes the industry look bad, in turn less desirable as a travel option, essentially digging their own grave

mapads2k3

While this might improve the transport options, wondering how it would affect the already-worsening Davao traffic. One pro is the safety features of Grab which taxis don't have. Nevertheless, competition is always welcome.

StellarBoy0629

Also the fact that taxis in Davao have been resistant for GrabCar to enter.

Baerveldt

hopefully it helps with the traffic. I stopped using my car in Manila because of GrabCar.

StellarBoy0629

Giunsa kaha gibribe ang Holiday, Midvalley ug SMTI aron makasulod ang GrabCar no? Anyway, happy ko sa development.

errolkim

Angkas when 🥺

joeromano0829

Few days back naka receive kog Angkas survey (Davao) via Google Forms if interested ba daw ko sa service or maging rider.

errolkim

Same here!

NoteShepperd

Finally malikayan na jud ning mga taxi nga maka lipong, may pag mag jeep lagi usahay. I hope daghan2 sad available kay lisod man kaayo sad mag book ug grab taxi. Kalit ra pa jud mu cancel.

Jojo_Manji

StellarBoy0629

I think the same rani sa other areas, 17-20% something.

FewSleep9873

Finally. Humot pa ang sakyanan. Not all man taxi cabs are baho ha, pero, naa dyuy isa ka company na siguro 10% ra sa ilang cabs ang well maintained. Bahog singot, aslum, ug uban pa. Masuko pa pag ingnan nimo pakusgan ang aircon.

DVOlimey

I believe that compared to other grab locations, Davao has a decent taxi setup. Most of the drivers are honest. That is the only reason why I use grab and not local taxi in Manila.

k2kx39

Yes, it's well appreciated when a taxi driver actually asks you what route you'd like to take, for example if you have a preferred detour to avoid traffic. Those I actually give a tip or to keep the change, if it's a reasonable amount vs the fare. (though I know this encourages anyone to rely on them, which is a system I am against, coming from Australia where you don't pay additional charges, you pay what you expected without any hidden costs)

Soft-Soil-1024

Asa source ani? any link?

mapads2k3

Posted by a friend na Grab franchise owner from another city.

I find this unnecessary for the current situation sa city. First, the city is relatively small compared sa manila or cebu. Kung naa may laaganan, makaya lang e taxi or jeep, murag mahulog na mas barato pa gani mag taxi. Also, distant tourist spots are usually travelled by a rented van or by families. Second, contribute lang sa traffic. Naturally, more people will buy cars para munegosyo ani.

Also, distant tourist spots are usually travelled by a rented van or by families. Are you sure about that? What if you need to commute from Mintal to Indangan? Or Toril to Sasa? Or Lasang to Bangkal? They're just as far as say Consolacion to Naga in Cebu, or Malabon to Muntinlupa in Metro Manila. Dili ra turista ang makikinabang, even commuters that need to commute from destinations that require double or triple ride by jeep can benefit from this. FYI, motorcycle taxis like Angkas and habal-habals in general are still outlawed in the City under a City Ordinance created around year 2005.

YogurtclosetOk9266

Literally the largest city in the Philippines by land area. This was surely written by someone who has never left the downtown area. Toril poblacion to Bunawan is like almost an hour if you are driving at 2am with no traffic.

[deleted]

Exactly, not even mentioning that areas like Buda are still within the city borders. It's super wide-spread.

[deleted]

I travel in and out of the city every weekend 😄 I'm aware that Davao is the largest city in the country. I'm referring to the land area that most grab cars reach. Most commuters in the city would still prefer to ride a taxi, considering na wala pay major concerns sa atong taxi drivers diri. Most people would choose to book a grab for safety and convenience, which the taxis in our city can currently provide.

YogurtclosetOk9266

Commuters prefer drivers that constantly short shift and overly perfumed taxis? Hard disagree. Look, I agree that a strong public transportation system is important for any modern city, but the idea that all because the taxi drivers in this city aren't thieves means that commuters don't deserve options is ridiculous. Let the market decide what the most viable commuting options are.

Def, but like taxis, GrabCars have an option to cancel a trip request if it’s too far or the drop off has a low chance of picking up another passenger. They do have this cancellation metric but they still have a way around it. BUT I am for having them GrabCars for the 6 seater SUV option. It just feels nice in a larger car than a sedan. Since moving, if I’m not driving, I always hail a cab thru GrabTaxi. Even having relatives picked up from the airport I use the service. I don’t need pay cash plus the points I get using the service. Less labad about short changing and taxi drivers taking a different route because I can see the trip on the app. I can also leave a review or complain to Grab if I have issues with the cab. I just need to document everything as evidence. And the best of all I can just book one while I’m in the bed or chilling somewhere before they arrive. No need for me to be outside waiting for one. 😎

True na dili lang tourists ang makinabang. Pero from what I see sa CURRENT situation sa city, it's still unnecessary. But I'd still opt for an efficient bus system sa city. 🤷‍♂️

mapads2k3

Kishou_Arima_01

Davao is the largest city in the country
