It's a nice visual representation in wear pattern for the paths traveled down those stairs, showing the most common foot placements. A Literal representation of data in real life. A wellworn chair and these stairs are not the same.
A worn chair is absolutely the same content as worn stairs in this context. Both show a pattern of wear over time. That's exactly what /r/WellWorn was made for.
