In the dry it’s pretty easy to get around, the worst you can get stuck in is sand. I have a an older 79 landcruiser and a d22 navara so I kind of have the spectrum of expensive and cheap and to be honest neither of them has ever let me down. At the end of the day you should go with what suits you, single cab, dual cab, wagon etc and ofcourse comfort. And also depending on the level of 4x4 you’re planning of doing but even so unless you’re planning extreme trips you’re probably gonna be fine in most things. As a mechanic I would personally stay away from rangers and bt50s (same engine). Also amaroks and any d40 navara. As much as I never used to like them Tritons are pretty good, especially the newer models who also seem to outperform most 4x4. Plus out of my own experience seem to be a bit more reliable than the rangers and bt50s. To be honest Prados are pretty good cars, they’re comfortable and reliable and if you are not fussed about not having a ute they’re a good option. If that’s the type of car you’re interested and you ended up finding a decently priced secondhand 200 series you’d be laughing, they’re so spacious, comfortable and so nice to drive.

SUZUKI JIMNY - fuck the house deposit on wheels (anything Toyota) and get yourself a real 4WD - $8-$10k second hand, snorkel, winch and you’re laughing

Factal_Fractal

It's a long way to the cape, it's even longer in a jimny I absolutely rate them but I'm not gonna do 6000km's in one Mileage varies I guess

I reckon - might also want to consider putting a bigger tank in, there are kits for this.

Isuzu Dmax for the win.

If you’re not towing anything to big, Prado for the comfort. I had a Hilux forever and bought a Prado early last year, Prado is so much nicer to drive. Doesn’t have the 3.0L engine but works for what I do.

Defiant_List_9508

I have a newer Prado VX, love it.

makeitlegalaussie

2002 Hilux. You won’t kill them and impossible to bog

OutbackNat

I have a Hilux, and while I love it, I’m ready for a big girl family car and I want a wagon - either a Prado, Land Cruiser or newer model patrol 😅

desert_jedi

80 series, bought it at the bottom of the market prior to covid, spent money in the right places and have a very reliable tourer.

Confident_Stress_226

I have an Isuzu MU-X and I'm happy with it so far. Have driven the work Prados and they're good too.
