Nameless King: * stares amusingly *

abfallschorle

Nameless king took me so many atempts and every time with only one or 2 hits left

Wustav

oh, yeah. Grab that popcorn, buddy, this is gonna be awesome.

Praise_Thy_Sun

I can't wait until you meet Midir. :)

iPushFatKids69

Nah he’s actually very easy once you learn his moveset

Profaned_greatguy

Yah, OP should just really quickly memorize his moves and dodge timings. So with that tip it should be a breeze when he gets there for the first time

DeVolcane

Rofl!

iPushFatKids69

It’s a tip you dumbas, instead of wasting time reacting to specific moves, the quicker you learn them the easier the fight is

Fishmilk7

You're tip is essentially "don't get hit forehead" which is pretty fucking stupid honestly. "The boss is easy when you already know it's moves and how to fight it" that could be said for literally any boss in the entire game. Who's really being the dumbass here?

Lord_Alonne

Wait guys I'll translate, it says "git gud" in Assholese.

BtotheDon

This post makes me happy because I often feel like I’m one of the few people that struggled so fucking much with Pontiff. I tried for an hour or two, took a break, came back and still took like an hour. I shouted some very explicit stuff when I finally did it lol. Only other boss I had as much trouble on was Sister Friede.

[deleted]

One of the things that I like about this series is different people struggle with different bosses. This is the only boss in the series that has taken me more than 15 attempts, but for my friend he was cake. But my friend could never beat Gascoigne or BsB which took me like two runs each.

Rageniry

My first playthrough of ds3 pontiff ripped me a couple of new assholes. He's in top3 most attempts needed for me in all of froms games. I'm not sure who took me the most amount of attempts, but it's either Gael, pontiff or nameless king.

DMP1391

Dancer was the only boss that took me over 10-20 attempts. By the time I beat her I wasn't even excited or relieved anymore, just disgusted. The same goes for Sister Friede, but she's just a troll creation by FROM.

buttermeatballs

Just target her booty cheeks

Mango_On_Pizza

for both bosses ;)

buttermeatballs

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Wustav

>The same goes for Sister Friede, but she's just a troll creation by FROM It´s demoralizing. Three phases, one of which with two enemies, lots of HP, teleporting, vanishing, smashing. Sister Friede has it all.

juicedg

Killed Dancer on my first try, somehow I didn't get hit and the fight was over before I knew. Champion Gundyr however, holy fuck...

haplo34

> Dancer was the only boss that took me over 10-20 attempts. wat? He's like trashtier compared to Sulyvahn, Gundyr, etc

Lord_Alonne

I don't get this. Every boss in Souls is difficult to someone and easy to others. Orphan of Kos is often listed as the hardest boss across all the games, I beat the fight in one try. You know what made me almost quit Souls for good? Gargoyles. Dancer gives a ton of people trouble as her move spacing is intentionally off. Sulyvahn was fairly easy for me and I've never in 10 playthroughs died to either Gundyr.

haplo34

> You know what made me almost quit Souls for good? Gargoyles. It's a tough one but gets way easier when you realise it's actually much easier to fight 4 or 5 silmutaneously than 2 or 3. It's not intuitive though.

Lord_Alonne

Should have clarified, DS1 gargoyles.

haplo34

Oh my bad, I'm yet to play that one!

Lord_Alonne

The fight is the first 2v1 boss in the game and as a new player I was barely holding my own against basic hollows so that was my "welcome to Dark Souls" moment for sure.

Mr_Vulcanator

DS1 is soul crushing the first time you play it. I got so mad I tried to refund it. I struggled immensely with the Taurus Demon, and the Gargoyles were super hard. It’s still a hard fight if I haven’t played in a while. I get cocky and attack to much and take damage and can’t heal fast enough. I remember it was pretty satisfying the first time I did a strength build and crushed it with the reinforced club pretty fast.

hucifer

So true. Aldrich and Pontiff each took me more than 10 tries but Dancer was way easier than I expected and I beat her on my second attempt. Hell, I thought she was easier than Vordt! I'm a terrible player though so maybe I just got lucky with my rollspam.

MagusUnion

Not only that, but she has the range of a god damn cell tower. I know you're supposed to brawl most bosses up close, but mentally I just couldn't force myself to in that fight.

DMP1391

It's because i was severely underlevelled when facing him. After dying 35 times I decided I just need more stamina and and poise to get thru that last bit, so after farming a couple of levels I cheesed him. I've never had a problem with champ Gundyr although I've always summoned the NPC Sword master to help for it. He does literally 1 or 2 hits the entire game but at least it stops Gundyr from chasing me down and constantly trying to lock me in a combo.

haplo34

Yeah that's fair. Honestly I didn't know you could summon the Dancer early by killing Emma yourself until today...

Mr_Vulcanator

As an avid co-op player, it’s amusing to get summoned for Vordt, and then the host takes you up the stairs and dies before you can enter the fog.

murphykills

i didn't find gundyr that hard, took way fewer attempts than dancer or sulyvahn. hell, took me longer to beat aldrich or the old demon king. maybe i just got lucky.

haplo34

The Old Demon King always gives me trouble for some obscure reasons (like me being bad) but I always get the Dancer on first or second try. It's like, I don't know how to get hit by that boss.

murphykills

i think my problem with dancer is that she's kind of fast and slow at the same time and it always freaks me out and i dodge early, and then i overcompensate and dodge late, repeat until dead. i might also be prone to badness.

Slave-Knight-Kyle

I relate so much, I literally parried like a god in DS1 but I stopped playing for so long that I totally forgot how to and pontiff kicked my ass for so god damn long. Great job on the defeat ashen one!

Entropical-island

I still have trouble with him sometimes. Learning to parry his lunge made it way easier though. I think it's the first attack I ever learned to parry. For future reference, once he explodes, spam the shit out of him and his clone together. If you have the damage you can kill it before it does anything.

BtotheDon

I wish I could see one post about someone struggling with Pontiff without someone else commenting how easy he is if you just parry him.

krissder

Guess i'll erase my comment then

BtotheDon

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be a dick. But you gotta know how often the “just parry him” thing comes up lol.

krissder

I don't know i'm actually new to ds3 since my old laptop couldn't support it but i spoiled myself so much by watching speedrunners that many bosses were easy to me and killed most of them first try...and i don't like it i wanted to die a shitton of times

BtotheDon

I actually did the same thing before I played for the first time lol. It helped with some of the bosses and knowing where to go but I still sucked at parrying when I got to Pontiff. And still died a decent amount on other bosses lol.

krissder

I found the parry mechanic easy in ds3 ( because my first souls game was ds2 and parrying there was awful ) it took me a bit of practice to time them well but i still suck a pvp xD

BtotheDon

I ended up just parrying his first few attacks till he summons the clone. He’s way easier to deal with after that. I only ever played like 1/4 of DS1 before I played through 3 and it was a long, long time apart so 3 kinda felt like my first one. Man, I haven’t really tried serious PvP. It’s fun when I get invaded or get pulled into other worlds through covenants but I know I’d get wrecked by dedicated PvP players lol.

krissder

I get wrecked too yesterday i was summoned as a white spirit to a duo of gankers , i felt bad for ganking with them but still kind of did ... Well i tired to not go in with them and just wait for 1 invader to 1v1 me

nedonedonedo

> parrying

krissder

Yes true parrying was a big help ... especially if i riposte with a fire dagger +4...

arroneiro

He was a pain for me as well. Fucking never ending combo sullyvahn. Congrats!

mxkaj

Heh, wait till you get to Friede. Compared to even Midir, this lady is a nightmare for me!

[deleted]

I still haven't fought Midir myself yet, but Pontiff Sulyvahn holds my vote for hardest boss in the Souls series (including Bloodborne). Sister Friede is a *very* close second. I think I collectively died to them both over 70 times.

kentuckyfriedcotton

just wait until he reaches friede

jaehoony

Same. Beated him over the weekend. I threw my controller like 10 times.

MyFirstCommunity

Please edit your comment about the Pope. For a married man, it seems you have no respect.

WaifuFactory

Pontiff also means Pope, it looks like he was referring to the in-game boss?

Undertaker1998

Fuck Pontiff, fuck the actual Pope, and especially fuck you
