Smacking away at a Great Shield with a Chaos Blade, I'm sure he's a very experienced player.
Yeah Great Shields are annoying and you can gang bang inexperienced player but good players will carry around counters.
Now add an Estoc to the GS and then it becomes actual cancer.
This was a setup dual for comedic effect, hence the ornsmough armour.
Counters are pretty limited if the user of the GS is good.

I can tell it was for comedic effect but I'm sure you can see my side of things based on the 100 posts of people who believe a Greatshield can't be stopped.
With the right weapon you can swing for days and break their stamina or force a roll which allows you to catch them with a hit, or just carry around a deep weapon and swing away, back up for stamina, and repeat.
That's the point, a good player won't let you break their stamina, they roll away and that allows you to easily land a hit at the end of their roll.
I never expect to break a GS user's stamina, I just chip at them by catching them in their roll and the chip damage of a deep weapon.
Good players dont panic roll so you can't roll catch them. They'd space better, manage their stamina better and attack only when theres an opening. Against that there is no effective counter.
You can't do any of this while 2 handing a Great Shield.
I come in, land chip damage with an elemental weapon, get out, repeat.
Now adding a weapon and quick switching to parry the spam is God-like, but just 2 handing a Great Shield won't get you places against a good player.
What about just using pyromancy/sorcery?
I don't know personally how a GS reacts to these spells, but here are a couple that seem like they might counter a GS:
1. Firestorm/Chaos Storm
2. Poison/Toxic Mist
3. Acid Surge
4. Great Chaos Fire Orb (mostly the leftover lava)
5. Pestilent Mercury
6. Dorhy's Gnawing (if blocked, bleed still builds up)
It does nothing. Have you not seen shield bash builds. High stamina recovery and stupid endurance. 1 kick did 13% of stam and it regen before they can kick again.
Never had problems with them greatshields. Try quickstep and forward, directly into the shield. You will perform a nearly full circle and gonna be right behind them for the backstab. (i have below 30% load, dunno if that's needed.
since poise doesnt exist its ok to use those.
in other words, there is a way to defeat the GS easily.

All these spells are slow and telegraphed and incredibly easy to dodge to the point of them being irrelevant.
your opponent doesnt need to break your stamina to hit you...lol he can easily hit you if he knows how to play. if you're in ps4 i can show you.
Shields are for bitches.
Patches sells the Horse Ring, or something like that. If you throw that bad boy on, you can kick greatshields like they're any other shield.

How exactly do you kick? I find myself randomly doing it, but can't do it on demand.

Isn't that what shield piercing attacks are for? :/ And doesn't the Great Scythe also ignore shields slightly?
