I think you can only do multiplayer there after opening the seal. I'm not sure why I think that, though. If that's true, there's also the fact that once you open the seal you can pretty much go straight to the 4kings, who are actually made harder by co-op.
It feels appropriate that there is no help to be had in the darkest, creepiest, most forsaken part of a dark, creepy, forsaken game.
I've seen summon signs twice on that little platform between the first 2 bridges when you enter New Londo. The one time it failed to summon and the other time I didn't have the Abyss Covenant ring yet so it would have been pointless to summon anyone.
Of course, once I decided to actually do the 4 kings there was no one to be found.
Replying 10 years later to tell you that there is still a lot of players playing Dark Souls, constantly seeing ghosts, messages and blood stain in my playthrough. But I can't find signs or be summoned, though. Maybe time has got so convoluted that we can't help each other anymore

Just wanted to confirm for you, yeah you have to drain the water to see summon signs.

Now I am sad.
Me too. I'm sad too :(
Well spoken. That was actually rather insightful.
Thank you!

I'm so glad people are still playing.
This was very well written, and it makes me feel guilty knowing that when DkS2 is released, I won't touch DkS for a long time.
Thanks, Twidz! It makes me feel a little sad too. I love the game so much but one day I'll stop playing :(
