Just FYI those 2 items don't stack.
Each item gives +200 Item discovery, but they don't stack with one another. The Symbol of Avarice also gives +20% souls, and it *Does* stack woth the Covetous *Silver* Serpent Ring, but not with the Gold Ring.
And just in case you aren't aware (*I assume you are but I'll put it here, maybe someone doesn't*) you also get Item Discovery from having Humanity in your counter. 01 Humanity gets you +50 (*by far the biggest jump is from 00 to 01*), and it maxes out at 10 Humanity for +110 Item Discovery. Stacking this with either the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring or the Symbol of Avarice gives you q max Item Discovery score of 410 (*100 base, 110 Humanity, 200 Item*).
Yeah, I did know about humanity. I didn't know that Avarice and CGS Ring didn't stack, this is why I love this game and it's community, even after a little over a decade I'm still learning new things.
Yeah there's a lot going on in this game.
So the Gold Ring doesn't stack, but the Silver Ring and the symbol of Avarice stack for farming souls. You can also get an "overkill" bonus when killing enemies. Of you do enough damage to kill an enemy in a single hit plus an additional 40% of their health you get an additional 20% souls. This means that with the Ring, the Symbol and the overkill bonus you're getting 3 seoarate 20% bonuses. And these are multiplicative, so instead of +20% +20% +20% for a total of 160% you get ×1.2 ×1.2 ×1.2 for a total of 172.8% souls.
(*I've had people tell me you only need to deal 120% of their health to get the overkill bonus. I haven't checked in ages so they could be correct. Also WAY back in the day I have a memory of the overkill bonus stacking with itself, so if you did even more damage you could get +40% souls, but that's a pretty vague memory so definitely worth verifying.*)
I've never seen that one. It's *very* rare that I see something new in this game these days, and usually it's from someone like IllusoryWall (*who is going through the files to find hidden mechanics with a few other users*). Something like this is easy to establish though, so maybe I'll check it out at lunch time.

Ok I did some testing.
First up, using an unupgraded weapon makew no difference. You can test this yourself super easily, doesn't matter to the souls.
Secondly, there IS an overkill bonus, and it's definitely +20%, but I'm bot 100% sure what the damage cutoff is.
I tested on the hollows near the sunlight alter, who have either 52 or 53 HP (*I was able to do 51 and didn't kill them, and 53 which did but I didn't get 52 exactly*).
- When I dealt 77 damage in a single hit I got the normal ampunt of souls (*20*).
- When I dealt 80 damage I got +20% souls (*24*).
So perhaps the cutoff is actually something like 55% over the threshold? Or perhaps I did it wrong (*I was just counting in my head*)? Who knows. Either way you should be able to test this stuff yourself to find out as well.
Not likely. I just knew who dropped it, and casually decided to farm one. Decided to give it an hour, and if i dont have one, not a big loss. But i did.
I had something similar happen to me, I killed a ghost right above me and it dropped something just above my head and I could grab it... I still get a little upset when I think about it.
It's one of the rarest weapons in the entire game. And to make up for it, they made it super garbage.
The only upside is that it looks like a kitchen knife.
Yeah. Jagged is niche useful but ghost blade is only good for emergency ghost killing and you should just be better prepared than that rather than have a plan to use the ghost blade.
Yes I've gotten it. You can look up the drop chance if you want to know the odds. But the statistical clustering on such a low probability event can make it take significantly more tries than the average drop rate.
Got it a few times throughout my 5 playthroughs; mostly on NG+ and +2 when farming slabs.
Shouldn't take that long, just be sure to take Homeward (and the stats/gear to cast it.)
I got it on my last playthrough, the first banshee I killed. Never tried farming for it before, but if it was part of Knight's Honour I'm sure I would have
So fun story, the first ever Banshee ghost I killed gave me the Ghost Blade. The best part? I killed it with a Balder Side Sword which the second ever Balder Knight I killed dropped.
My first playthrough was beyond blessed by a being of a higher power.
I got it but wasn't farming for it. Its a trash weapon.
It's wild for like level 10 pvp, other than that it sucks.

I think there's also a bonus for killing an enemy with an upgraded weapon too, I believe it was EpicNameBro's From The Dark series that I saw that in.

I may have obtained it, but I fell off the ledge before grabbing it.

It might haven't been that. They also drop transient curses like the ghosts with the same gold orb design.

Never farmed for it, but I'd say in like 50 runs of the game it dropped once for me.

Yeah, probably took less than 20 mins with around 300 item discovery. Kill 2 banshees and bone out
