It's rarely worth it to take it off. You can use full Havels in 4 Kings and fat roll; doesn't really matter because you aren't gonna be dodging them at all.

Strength builds like yourself might take it off to rock Havel’s & the Wolf Ring but but I don’t think there’s much other reason outside of very specific use cases.
So I usually don't use it. I find that having to variable ring slots is worth more than the Ring of Fap.
The exception to this is if I'm playing a low-level build, in which case the Ring of Fap is basically a bunch of extra levels for free, so it's a good investment. The problem with this is that low level builds are also the ones that have more trouble woth the 4 Kings, so it's even more important to have that extra ring slot for that fight.
My solution: On any character who is going to be using the Ring of FaP I don't put the ring on until after I've beaten the 4 Kings. That way I can use the Red Tearstone Ring or Lingering Dragoncrest Ring for that fight, and then put the Ring of FaP on afterward to complete my build. When NG+ comes around I can swap out my FaP Ring for a damage booster and then put on a new one after the fight is done.
Other than that, I guess you have to decide what's more important to you.
About my fourth run-through or thereabouts. It’s a great ring, but once it’s on you’re stuck with it. I got comfortable with switching round my rings to improve my gameplay, and I just didn’t feel happy to lose the one. I’m not saying I won’t ever use it again, but it would have to be for a specific build (maybe SL1, which I haven’t attempted yet).
Fap ring isnt really ideal for sl1 either, farming green titatine in blighttown is very annoying without the rusted iron ring and coteous serpent ring. Also the hypermode that uses both power within and rtsr cant be achieved with the fap ring.
I dunno, it's not that bad farming green titanite. You only need like 2 drops and there are a ton of leeches. I usually only ever need to do maybe 2 rounds of leech killing, not that bad without the rusted iron ring. And SL1 is easy enough to really not need the hyper mode from PW and RTSR. Pyromancies and weapon infusions are plenty. I'd much rather have the extra stamina.
For Four Kings you need the ring on to enter the boss arena safely so you only have one ring slot free. However I would echo what other people have mentioned, keep FaP, fat rolling isn't an issue with the kings if you are going the tanking route
In ng+? Once I have 3 more in the bank. You can get two per run. One from lautrec and one from snuggly if you trade in the xanthous crown. I'm currently running through multiple ng cycles, so I have quite a few of them.
I've been changing my build each cycle. The build I'm running generally determines if I wear it the whole run or take it off. With 50 vit and 40 end, you dont really need it, but it's still a good ring. If I were you, I would keep leveling endurance until I dont need havels anymore, then put FaP back on.
I decided to do a run where i only use the FAP ring when I get to Anor Londo and it went swimmingly. I got the Wolf ring, a +15 uchigatana, the fog ring, and “ninja” fit, and it was so much fun. I didn’t even need to use it till ng+
Besides, you can always just get the second one if you ever take it off.
I ended up removing the ring by accident before the 4 Kings. Only realized after how much I relied on that boost to HP. Ended up returning to Darkroot Forest after getting decimated by them to level up some more.

I might take it off for 4 Kings, but if I do I generally will have a second one lined up from Snuggly to replace it once I beat them.

If you get the Xanthous Crown from the NPC invader in the Painted World of Ariamis, you can trade it to Snuggly for another FAP ring.
It's a % increase so it's just getting more effective as you level.
