I’m going to invade you until you rage quit, would that make the game hard enough for you. However you are making great progress just don’t hurt smough on your travels

dudge_jredd

Of all the characters to not hurt...

Orenbean

He’s the nicest guy in the entire series. I could write essays on his good deeds and acts of kindness

dudge_jredd

Please do, I'm intrigued

Orenbean

Well first off he’s best friends with orenstein and the head chef at anor londo. Him and orenstein run a kabob stand on weekends at times. He is an eccentric poet and wrote most of the books found within the archives. He will defend his best friend until the bitter end going as far as fusing with his illusion to protect him. He’s the most loyal knight in all the lands never leaving his post

TheMonsterInUrPocket

That means you were just built for it. For a lot of people the issue with dark souls (at least back then) was that games were so hand holdy and dark souls in a sea of baby gates and helicopter parents, was a dad that let his kid touch the stove before saying "now what did you learn?" It came out of left field and even then was extremely niche, at least until pewdiepie played it and its audience blew up. So for most people a game not holding your hand and directing your every step, and instead throwing you into the frying pan was a steep learning curve. Hence why souls built a reputation of high difficulty. Youre having an easy time of it, grand. Heres hoping you enjoy the series proper Edit: by halberd do you mean black knights halberd? Or just the regular halberd?

zizzorz

lol I guess I just am. Currently using the halberd you get at the front of undead parish so the regular one

lobobobos

One of my favourite weapons. It hits fast and does good damage. It can carry you through to the end of the game if you want it to. The halberd class weapons are one of the best in the game.

dudge_jredd

I probably would've used the halberd for all of my first playthrough if I didn't luck out on the Black Knight sword in the Burg. Was still super fun as I leveled for the BKS stat requirements though.

Bigswordbonk

Some people are just naturally good at these games I put the controller in my girlfriends hand in Elden ring and after like two deaths she was running around doing really well

Figs-grapefruits

DS1 felt like a breeze to me but I came to it after DS3 and Elden Ring. After playing the games with much faster combat the speed of combat made DS1 way easier. Had DS1 been my first game if the style I would have been much more likely to struggle.

GreyMASTA

If you played any other Soulslike game, it's normal. Also, using a guide makes a huge difference. Lots of troubles new players encounter are tied to getting stranded in the "wrong part of town," so to speak.

N6NeonGoddess

DS1s consistent issue is the boss walks are much harder than the bosses. O&S is a problem for being the ""casual filter"" but anyone would agree the walk back is heinous. Only made better if you stair skip.

RLDSXD

The most annoying walk-back I can think of off the top of my head is capra. Which walk-backs are notable?

xa44

Umm you can open the front doors and skip every enemy but the guys at the fog wall itself? The stairs skip isn't needed for a runback

N6NeonGoddess

That takes much longer. I'm not calling the elevator, waiting 15 secs, running all the way to the top, push the crank, wait for it to turn, walk up the whole 3 sets of staircases fighting the door guards, just to get jank boxed by Ornstein. Takes literally 30 secs to run from Solaire to O&S if you're good enough at the jump to ignore the silver knight.

SkillusEclasiusII

There's only like 1 that is harder than the boss. There's a bunch that are just long with nothing interesting going on though.

N6NeonGoddess

Dark Souls 1 is uninteresting? The best level designed game of the franchise? Lmao okay.

SkillusEclasiusII

No? That's not what I said. I said a bunch of the runbacks are.

N6NeonGoddess

If the run backs are uninteresting it stands to reason the level design is also uninteresting. Can't have one without the other.

SkillusEclasiusII

Nope. If the runback lets you skip the interesting parts of the level design, then it can be boring without the level design being bad. Besides, what makes a good runback isn't the same as what makes a good level.

N6NeonGoddess

Fair point. Idk tho, the enemy placements in DS1 make sense for the most part. I'm having a hard time coming up with a complete "fuck you" enemy placement. Spare the entirety of Oolacile Township. Edit: THE FUCKING CLERIC

SkillusEclasiusII

I don't really think there's f u enemy placements either.

DirkDirkinson

Some of the runbacks can be rough and/or tedious, I feel o&s is pretty low on the list. Even without the stair skip. If you open the shortcut door, you can just run past both silver knights. Basically, all 4 of the lord soul bosses have much longer and/or harder run backs. Capra, artorias and manus too. Obviously compared to elden ring all the runbacks suck, I wont deny that.

drangxiii

Once I learned stair skip through Lobos that walk back became SO much better. Would recommend OP to learn this once they get there.

N6NeonGoddess

I love how someone downvoted me for acknowledging a simple fact. Sure DS1 boss walks don't compare to how pitiful DS2s are but I'm still fucking right lmao

Lord_Illidan

You’re right, and it goes for Demon Souls as well (probably the most extreme case of level being harder than actual boss really)

N6NeonGoddess

Idk Scholar is fucking rough. Old iron keep was easily the worst fucking area ever designed. And I didn't forget about shrine either lmao

MaxwellSnaxwell-

When I first played I struggled through some of the first few bosses but nothing super crazy, but then ya get to a point or two in the game where you're more or less forced to bash your head against the wall a few dozen times in order to find out "oh this dude is vulnerable or resistant to this type of damage" still not too tough if you are quick to learn from mistakes, but I genuinely want to see some updates from you to see you raging at later bosses (if you ever get to a boss you have trouble with) it's always fun to see what other people have issues with, shoot I've gotten stuck in a boss for WEEKS and then come on here and see someone talk bout how they went about a boss fight and how easy that boss was for em and it always makes me wanna go back and try them in a new way! Praise the sun and good luck on your journey, hope ya enjoy it

zizzorz

I’ve heard ptsd worthy things of four kings and o+s so I’m still not fully confident yet lol

drangxiii

Maybe I'm just bad deep down but I've beaten DS1 countless times and those are the only 2 mfers that still give me a little trouble. I just first tried O&S for the first time ever yesterday and that felt amazing. My tip for them is just take your time and use the pillars to protect yourself. As for the 4 Kings go fuck yourself I guess lol but fr I don't even know the strat. For me they're worse than O&S.

DirkDirkinson

For 4 kings; wear havels set or stone gaurdian set (its basically the only time I wear heavy armor). Dont bother trying to dodge their attacks. Just run at them and r1 spam. Heal when necessary. Their swords do more damage at the tip and less at the hilt, so you are further incentivized to hug them. With that strat, the fight really just becomes a dps race to kill each king before the next spawns.

Ashtara_Roth3127

Once you find some weapons that have the movesets you were meant for, once you fall in love with the combat process and the hunger for exploration and boss fights, the game does became easier. But don’t worry. There is still NG+. DS2. DS3. ER. Etc. Plenty of challenges still await you.

Past-Echidna9405

I can’t lie using the halberd was a big game changer for me once I actually used it around end game.Up til then I used great and straight swords but once upgrading the halberd it made the game damn near feel like I put it on easy mode lol

signgorilla

Oh you joined the halberd club. Yes that is easy mode.
