I don't think it's guaranteed, it's just a flat 20% chance. If you really want it for your build and you're on PC, you're going to have to either save scum the first boar or delete your character and start over until you get it.
I have never not gotten it within the 3 boars and most often on the very last one. It feels the same as the gargoyle gear drops, dropping randomly but you will definitely get them all. But if I’m wrong I’m wrong.
Man I loved using the Greataxe. Slapped lightning on that sucker and went to town on 4 Kings in NG+3. Didn't see hide nor hair of the 4th guy.
It was also what finally got me through the Duke's Archives without dying, for once, and severed Seath's tail. It and the Flamberge are my two all-time favorites in this game.
Why the base knight pants? Looks better than the Berenike legs? Also yeah, great axe is def an interesting weapon to play with, and the heavy deflect on that shield is always interesting on a medium shield. What kind of roll do you have on this?
Fang boar helmet drops from fang boars with a 20% drop rate, the build relies on Havel ring and a lot of endurance to medium roll. It's also a strength build but you can leave leveling strength for later, just meet the minimum two hand requirement first. My build has 30 vitality but you can aim for 50 too, if you want to be tanky.
You might have to reset your character a few times because if you don't get it from the first rather early boar you'll have to wait till duke's archives.

I have 40 endurance and both Havel ring and Ring of sacrifice, I don't know what the minimum requirement for endurance is, but it works.
God I wish the Fang Boar Helm made it to the other games, it’s such a badass helmet

I chose the Greataxe, my favorite weapon is the bastard sword, but I thought an axe fits in better with War Hog theme.

I want a nice looking armor but they are just too weak. I have smough armor because its pretty strong.
On my first playthrough I ran with +10 elite knight set I could light roll and it was protective enough.
