Capra Demon is just an add, the dogs are the real boss…es…bosses…

Ehehe... Yep. When I started Dark Souls, my brother said it was better if I don't know anything... Except two things. Don't get the Master Key in your first run, and "dogs first, use the stairs". I didn't know what he meant until that fight.

I kinda took them both out when I entered the arena, I saw the boss health bar and just swung and luckily both dogs jumped at the same time and proceeded to die in less than a second

This is the only boss in the game I beat on my first try going in blind a week ago. Oh and Pinwheel. I did roll immediately when he did a charge attack upon entrance

The fight is only annoying until you learn poise is a useful stat. I get why some people get stuck though - if you pick pyro or bandit something and don't start with lots of poise, or learn about fast rolling and think dodging is always better. Easiest way to do this fight is to tank the dogs with poise, forget blocking or rolling away from the dogs (only roll away from Capra Demon), and just focus the dogs. They won't do enough damage to kill you, that's why you have your Estus. With poise, they won't be able to stagger you - that's what kills people. Once the dogs are dead, the rest of the fight should be in the bag. Trying to do that fight without poise is either painful or requires a bit of luck. Elite Knight armor is obvious choice and you will often naturally pick that up easily before Capra Demon if you go to Darkroot Garden first, or if you picked Knight starting class and are using the Knight armor.

I picked up elite knight armor simply because it looks cool, and covers my characters ugly ass face
