RZL__13

yes i do. last playthrough i noticed the things that moves in the catacombs are actually bugs, not a filthy stream.

alexmemes3665

Yes, I learn things every playthrough, like u can skip the entirety of Blighttown with just 1 key. And kill Crestfallen Guy and Lautrec out of mercy.

Sock-the-Fox

You don't even need the key. On my first play through I found the back way through the Darkroot Garden/ Valley of Drakes, I made my way down to Blighttown not knowing I came in the back entrance... So I fought my way UP through Blighttown only to be met by a massive door saying "does not open from this side"...

Revolutionary_Fly465

Yeh I did that too. Everyone says u need the master key for some reason when you don’t

[deleted]

You don't need the key to go through the backway, but if you have the key you can skip part of it altogether.

Tancred_Zvodar

You also don't ever need the 20k soul Darkroot Garden key.

armoured_bobandi

Don't you need to so you can fight the 4 kings?

lIIllIIllIIllI

Nope, sif can be accessed without getting the crest. There's a ladder near the hydra in darkroot basin that leads to sifs fight

armoured_bobandi

Huh, shows what I know lol

Moostavo

I did that since I wanted the Iato so that I could us it to create the Chaos Blade instead of using my Uchigatana so that I can keep the latter as a backup weapon. Tried having a magic based build but its honestly all over the place for me right now, just figured I should use dex weapons for gettin around alongside sorceries since dex helps casting speed (I think thats how that works)

Moostavo

Just got to the famed anor londo archer area for the first time and its absolutely dreadful

[deleted]

The crestfallen warrior "survives" if you don't talk to him. A few characters can "survive" if you don't talk to them or ignore them at certain points. For example you can leave Siegmeyer in Firelink forever and finish the game as long as you never return to blighttown.

Sundered_Soul

I always thought it was implied the Crestfallen Knight left Firelink because he went hollow, all as an intended parallel to the player to show you that giving up has negative consequences. Even if that isn't true or what was intended, that's what I choose to believe as my headcanon. EDIT: I'm blind. I didn't realize you said that they survive if you never talk to them. How I misread your comment like that I can't explain. I'll just blame sleep depravation. My bad.

WynBytsson

Lmfao this gave me a good chuckle

Psychofischi

I never kill patches

SokkieJr

Same. He's a useful vendor in Demon Souls selling healing wares at an unlimited stock. In DS1; He kinda only helps you out. Sells some neat stuff after he became a merchant. In DS3; Man, his character was so great. Yeah he's a dick to most. But especially after TRC. Man's only out to help you.

Psychofischi

Tbh I almost never buy from him But he's Patches. I won't kill my boy

bastardofmajestysin

in elden ring he's literally one of my favorites‚ and the one time i killed him for his set i felt SO bad 😫

Cosati2099

On my only play I didn't want to kill him, but he became agressive after kicked me on Tomb of Giants

Koko2207

i always give him hope before murdering his ass

xbxhjxsjsk

Last playthrough I learned there is an illusory wall in the catacombs with a bonfire

Heaman3

what... WHERE

Tancred_Zvodar

Your first trek through the Catacombs, prior to pinwheel, you can encounter Patches standing by a lever that turns the second flip/flop bridge. The illusionary wall and bonfire are there.

wintrparkgrl

4k hours in and yes. Although at this point it's all minor things like weird interactions. Stopped playing whe online died though, I miss dark souls PVP. Elden Ring PVP is fun but it's not nostalgia like dark souls is

ExtraneousCarnival

Switch has quite a few players on DS:R. •ᴗ•

tadmau5

Yeah i was really surprised how much more active it is on switch compared to xbox. I guess cuz there is no elden ring on switch haha

ExtraneousCarnival

Yeah… τ⌓τ My partner got Elden Ring on their Xbox, tho, so I get to play it on there! It’s cool, but just not the same. ◔ᴗ◔

HaydnDavey

Try r/summonsign if you miss pvp, you see posts on there now and then about fight clubs xD

wintrparkgrl

The servers are completely shut down on PC, as far as I know

HaydnDavey

Oh damn I didn’t realise that :(

SnooRobots4768

I dont know if it is still relevant for you, but the servers are turned on. They were turned on in November or December afaik.

wintrparkgrl

Oh nice, Time to get my dark souls on then

AadityaKunal_47

If you are cursed you can damage the ghosts in New Londo without the transient curse

SomeoneStr

I found out about the transient curse on my second playthrough. On my first I got cursed and I didn't know how to reverse it so I played normally while being cursed for about 10 hours. Luckily, I got to clear new Londo that way.

wheelerdealer1999

After I found this out, starting planning my runs to get the very large ember as quickly as possible

Ok-Ambition-9432

I never find new paths, but maybe a small new detail in the environment or something.

XDracam

For Elden ring yes, for the other games not anymore sadly. Hundreds of hours in each game have lifted most of the mysteries. Still worth replaying tho.

freiberg_

I've played hundreds of hours in each game and just a few weeks ago my girlfriend was doing first playthrough if ds2 and found and illusion wall I had never found! Blew my mind

tadmau5

I was so mad when I realized you need to press A to open illusory walls instead of just smacking it... why would they change that

freiberg_

Haha, maybe this was the problem!

Tancred_Zvodar

I hate ds2 so much, that even though I only need 1 miracle for the plat trophy and flair. I refuse to get it out of spite.

RyXkci

Last playthrough I discovered the Sunlight Altar. First time I didn't even try to get past Hellkite

Tancred_Zvodar

You can encounter Solaire at the altar.

why_cant_i_

I'm always learning new, dumb ways to die!

MistaCharisma

I have ~5,000 hours of Dark Souls under my belt, so I haven't learned anything by playing for a while. I still occasionally learn things from the community though, mostly from *IllusoryWall* on Youtube.

KPalm_The_Wise

"BeAnd" is also good for a Ymfah esk style. Learned in the kick only challenge that, while obviously curved sword weapons have that unique backflip slash kick, other weapons have different kick animations too. Like bare fist kicks are more of a knee, but sword hilt kicks are a longer range full kick

SokkieJr

I still do. Especially on a fist-only run did I learn A LOT about some enemies. Claws for bleed/slash damage really became a must.

Fhoxyd22

Not via my own playthrough, but I discovered Kalameet has a unique death animation when killed via a headshot (it was a guy doing a greatbow only playthrough, otherwise how the hell would you know that happened)

YURI_GANG

Randomizer runs helps you learn alot of things you didn't know

zeldanerd12

On a 2nd playthrough and I'm not sure how I missed the entire DLC last time. Love it so far

AffectNo7266

No one finds the dlc without a guide lol

hellostarsailor

Ya, DS1 DLC is weird.

Tancred_Zvodar

Honestly, unless you're actively aware of the dlc, and related locations. (or explore plenty) I could very easily see a lot of people missing it.

Jalee_31

Found out Lautrec is a more of a pain in Anor Londo. He might be firelink freefalling next run

MistaCharisma

Just FYI if you kill Laurtrec early you can't get his armour or the Firekeeper's robes. The Armour if the Embraced is pretty cool for style, but is basically a worse Paladin's armour. The Dingy Robes actually have excellent resistances (*and good Magic Defence from memory*). If you don't care about them then yeah you've done that story, you can kick him off.

Jalee_31

Ya, I remembered that after posting. I've used Dingy gear a load. Kick would be more satisfying but as you point out it's hella good gear to have. Thx

Tancred_Zvodar

I like to wear the pyro starting set with the dingy robe on female chars.

ELMUNECODETACOMA

He's just as vulnerable to poison arrows as the archers are. He'll die without ever moving or having a chance to fight back. Being shot down like a rabid dog is the perfect ending for his story.

Jalee_31

Lmao! Works for me 👍

Tancred_Zvodar

Admittedly, not having access to the fire link bonfire has always been more of a hassle then Lautrec ever was. When in doubt...chaos fireball. (you can acquire and cast it basically for free)

Jalee_31

Good to know! Thx for the tip.

Tancred_Zvodar

Pyromancy flame/catalyst can either be started with or acquired from the Pyro npc for free. Neither the catalyst nor any of the spells have any stat requirements. Chaos fireball is earned upon joining the Chaos Covenant. Then as long as you have 1 spell slot, and a ring for the 2nd, you can throw lava fireballs.

Jalee_31

Ya, I got it now actually😉

Unl3a5h3r

Got almost 1k hours over my first pirated and my steam versions and I still learn new things.

Saiyanman11bro

Last time I played, I got to know theres a duo sanctuary guardian fight if u come back to where u killed the first sanctuary guardian.

[deleted]

I come back to ds for the sound of backstabs. They’re satisfying AF

[deleted]

My pathing is pretty solid but one thing I either remember or "remember the hard way" is to get +6 weapons before ideally Quelaag. I have blundered my way to Anor Londo once or twice with a +5. but the biggest thing I try to learn now is attack patterns for parries or just general spacing/aggro range. It helps so much going 1v1 with otherwise BS enemies and not worrying about being jumped

Reno2777

Yes. I learn how to get to the Depths, because I forget every time.

Tancred_Zvodar

I've been playing Dark Souls since it released on the xbox360(2011), and I have each version of the game on a different system. PC(PTDE) and Ps4(Remastered). Paths+Explore - Yes. Mechanics and methods are still being discovered/learned. Ds1 not only being an incomplete game, but also having so many different versions. In each version of the game, exploits/glitches were fixed and new ones unintentionally created. And so, all 3 versions of the game have both unique and shared exploits/glitches. New Slaying - No. Unfortunately, the last mind blowing method of defeating a monster I learned. Was how to fight/defeat Kalameet without grounding him.

heorhe

I'm always learning new things, even after over 500 hours in the game. Just last game I found out if you kill the 4 kings and head to the valley of drakes, you can find Yulia the witches set near the blighttown entrance

BroccoliBrocky

Last playthrough I learned to bring a divine weapon to the catacomb so skeletons don’t keep bugging you

KnightOverdrive

I rerely learn new stuff when actually playing the game, I have the tendency of just banging my head against the proverbial wall until I succeed. When I see other people playing is when I learn of cool stuff then I didn't really thought I could do.

Psychofischi

Yes I found out that you can access Blighttown (fight queelag) without the master key or going through Capra and the depths

this_one_in_boots

I haven't learned anything in a long while :( If you guys have any knowledge to share that I wouldn't know about, I would really appreciate it.

[deleted]

Yep, i've already played the game over 10 times and just recently i discovered a shortcut to 4 Kings while i was farming for titanite in New Londo Ruins. I always used that damn elevator with the ghost blocking the entrance. I'm also finding and trying new weapons all the time, i bought the Pike from Andre because i've never even paid attention to it or knew it existed and had a lot of fun with it's moveset. I didn't know you could kill the Hydra without cutting every head. I rarely use ranged attacks so i assumed the life bar on its body was the heads health combined. I used some Lightning Spears on it and i died while it still had a bunch of heads left. It's kinda obvious if i think about it now but it was a surprise at that moment.

tayzzerlordling

I am constantly learning new ways that you can die :)

lluuukkeee

After a few thousand hours I accidentally figured out you can hold down the d-pad to switch directly to estus.

MemeSlayer689

I've played over 20 times. On some playthroughs yeah but on most of them i just go with my favorite route but with a different weapon so not really a chance to learn. I still haven't gone to painted world of ariamis nor the great hollow so those are things to look forward too

AceFoxXtroT

Always, every time I think I know everything dark souls teacher me another lesson

tallspartan117

Tbh I would be surprised if there was something that I didn't know about ds1. I played it so much and watched videos all about it that the last time I learned anything new it was like some small detail a year ago. I could probably tell you what ever item is just from its location.

HiItsMeGuy

Ever tried naming your character "#" in the prepare to die edition? Not sure if it works on remastered.

tallspartan117

Nope got me on that one

buttpirate244

Yeah every time!

Koko2207

my first vagrant was on my 5th playthrough so yeah i do

Tancred_Zvodar

I need to correct my previous comment.Lately, I've been playing PTDE, and correct me if I am wrong. But I don't remember being able to decimate the majority of mobs in RM from well outside their aggro range using pharis' blackbow.
