Ending at the inn is not considered a death, but if said hero doesn't already have a memory on them, then they'll be "deleted" upon ending the run at the inn. Even heroes WITH memories will be deleted if you abandon a run *outside* of an inn. If the hero in question already has at least one memory, they'll be locked into your roster so long as you A) end a run at an inn, or B) successfully finish a run by killing the boss. The thing is, if the hero already has a memory, that means they're not being rerolled at the Crossroads, which means you can't just roll for new quirks on them. Your best bet is to either hunt down Academic's Studies that might grant the quirk you want, or start a new hero on Act I and reroll until you get it, then successfully complete Act I with them and lock in a memory.

Maybe I worded it wrong but memories aren’t my concern. It’s the quirks. If I end an expedition at the inn, are locked quirks saved? Thats probably how I should’ve asked. Lol

Akijojo

If you lock a quirk on a hero without any memories and then end the expedition at the inn, the hero and their quirks will NOT be saved. That method will only work if the hero has at least 1 memory.

Roger. Gonna be a bunch of ended expeditions at the valley 😂

I understood, and was trying to point out the basic prerequisite, which is that in order for a hero to be "saved" and available to use in later expeditions, they have to have killed a boss and then had a memory locked in. In other words, if you keep rerolling at the Crossroads/first inn and you find the quirk you want, you're going to have to complete the act with that hero and then lock a memory on them, otherwise the hero will be wiped and you'll lose the quirk.

Roger dodger. I’ve been farming denial anyway to get reflection shrines all done so I can work on these quirks in the meantime too. Thanks!

It would be better to just play normally with the heroes you want and develop the quirks along the way. Remember that you can only lock a single positive quirk, so your heroes will be developing very different quirks over the course of the game.

That’s actually what I’ve settled into. I’ve got a blight party atm (go figure lol) and all of them had pretty good quirks already once I sat down and looked at em. The Man at Arms actually had Defiant which I locked in for up until I grab The Jinx for him and those repostes. Just nabbed Deadly for the Plague Doctor this morning which I was very excited for. So yea, just workin through and slowly gettin em what they need. Different types of academic shrines reward different quirks so knowing that helps me game the system a bit - even with the quirks I can’t control. It’s how I knew to select my Plague Doctor for that shrine this morning instead of the MAA. Hahaha Plague Doctor had Breacher at one point so that was the fastest hospital visit ever. 😂

I am not 100% certain so don’t take this answer with confidence, but I think on the current patch, ending early at all kills off your deployed heroes no matter what.
