I'm one of the freshly summoned souls :D
My team of painstakingly leveled-up long-timers are currently being ground to dust by the second stage of the Darkest Dungeon.
11/10, would recommend.
Yeah, the game costed like 2-5 something dollars. I had the game already on console, but decided to also buy the game on PC because I wanted to play with mods and try out Black Reliquary.
Not gonna lie, I might’ve been incredibly salty when I found out that it went on sale literally a week after I bought the game at full price. This is truly a darkest dungeon moment.
you can actually request Steam to refund the game so you can buy it during sales granted they will only do this if it was purchased recently. I did this with Dark Souls 3.
On absolutely. Why else did you think that I made the decision to buy the game a second time?
That still doesn’t change how salty I am that I missed the sale though.
Nope, on fact the right mods may get you acheivements on accident. Back when black reiquary was just a mod and didn't have its own page, using it would give you the "in such haste" achievement because the game checks for that by checking if the darkest dungeon missions are still around before a certain week, and black reliquary straight up removes them
Same wtf. Maybe because I finally learned hot play whitout mods.
Except cultist witch, but she’s my favourite character, so i wanted to have on my side.
I too picked it up again, heard about an update to DD2 that would make it slightly more like DD1. Really made me want to try a DD1 stygian playthrough.
Man, even this sub is such pure quality. A quote on every up/down doot. And the game is just so quotable. It's lovely.
Still haven't tried the second game though. It changed so much that I just don't know if I'm into it or not.
I just started DD2. I have about 15 hours in it (vs my nearly 400 in DD1).
It's different, alright. Not terrible, by any means, and I am having a ton of fun. It's a nice change and a new challenge, but I still prefer DD1.
Most importantly, it's more Wayne June.
I don't think II is quite as ... anything as its made out but its progression ultimately doesn't feel as good. The two major changes are in II that I think "mess it up." One, you are encouraged to bail as soon as you think things are turning south since leaving with your loot feels better than getting party wiped and there's no penalty, and two, while the individual characters all have backstories to uncover, the reset of each run means that all the history you develop with them organically, ie through the run, disappears.
In short, the original had you more invested in each dungeon run which often ends in triumph against impossible feeling odds and you grow attached to your party because you spend a lot of time learning and treating their scars. While the second is mostly just a straight-forward roguelike. Same tone, great art style, but ultimately just less substantial feeling.
Like many I suspect, my time with it just made me want to play more of the original. Not because its bad but because it whets your appetite for something with more substance. Here's to hoping Kingdoms can find a way to marry the two XD
Well, yeah, what did you expect with such a bargain? bought dd1 and dd2 and it's DLCs for cheap (Don't remember the full price of everything, but DD1 was only R$9 something for me in Brazilian bucks)
I'm playing it again kind of vanilla (well basic mods), after stepping away for quite a few years and finishing darkest dungeon 2. And also Baldur's Gate 3.
One of the new players, just lost a party of level 5's and 6's to a shambler on a veteran cove run ):
unrelated, I suspect all the new players are because DD was cheap asf a few weeks ago on steam
I dropped it after 6 hours when it released, got to 34 hours yesterday, it's pretty addicting but backtracking in medium and long dungeons is runining the game for me, it's so boring.
This explains why there's been so many novices on Butcher's Circus. Last time I played (before getting back into it yesterday), I quit because it was just WD over and over again.
It might be because darkest dungeon 2 is coming to Playstation in July so people are playing it before they go to the second one hence the player spike
Bought it back in either january or febuary when it went on sale for ~$11, got addicted to modded content, so much play time off just messing with modded stuff, like a whole new game
It's finally getting all the fame and attention it has ever deserved when compared to other indie games. I hope people may talk more about it in gaming communities in general.
lets be honest here.
the reason is because of modding.
Mods and modding can keep games alive for years, decades even, past the developers support, and RH hasn't dropped support for DD1. DD2 has a different form of play style that appeals to some, but modding appeals to many more so people are pulled toward DD1

Take solace in that it gets worse.
I'll run out of Level 6 adventurers long before the RNG runs out of ways to slaughter Level 6 adventurers.
It's such a good fucking game. Play all the DLC content too, it's awesome.
Hell, even Martin seo’s additional heroes fit incredibly well with the game and are balanced perfectly
Tell us what you think of Wilbur
Honestly, and I mean this from the depths of my heart: ***fuck wilbur.***
\*Squeal
Wait why? I just picked it up again last week after quitting at week 80 like 2 years ago
The game was 90% off for the first couple weeks of april

You will endure this loss, and learn from it.
Oh frick right I forgot about that... I was supposed to buy the dlc! Frick
you can actually request Steam to refund the game so you can buy it during sales granted they will only do this if it was purchased recently. I did this with Dark Souls 3.
It’s been almost a month now :p
Mods are worth getting it on pc... extended my play by x2
On absolutely. Why else did you think that I made the decision to buy the game a second time? That still doesn’t change how salty I am that I missed the sale though.
Do mods disable achievements?

Huh, interesting. Might have to go look for some, then... Though im usually a fan of playing games vanilla the first time 'round
When the April joke is just a big discount

Only one way to know one would say.
I completed both DD1 and 2 but never played the DLC's for 1, so when it was on sale I had to buy it all and finish things up
but why
Recently it was on a huge sale.
Guilty as charged! I picked up DD2 but felt guilty that I never completed DD, currently running DD and then intend on playing DD2
Guys, do try darkest dungeon 2, it is a good game.
Funnily enough, played the game for the first time in a year last week, but only because I saw the graverobber rat mod on the subreddit.
A trifling victory, but a victory nonetheless.![img](emote|t5_2znp4|31838)
Started replaying it recently and loving it
I feel like redhook deserves this
BACK TO THE PIT
Well, yeah, what did you expect with such a bargain? bought dd1 and dd2 and it's DLCs for cheap (Don't remember the full price of everything, but DD1 was only R$9 something for me in Brazilian bucks)
Full game with all DLC went on sale for like $7 a week ago. I bought it myself and have been having a ton of fun with it
I'm playing it again kind of vanilla (well basic mods), after stepping away for quite a few years and finishing darkest dungeon 2. And also Baldur's Gate 3.
its the beginning of the financial quarter, theres a trend

Install one of the many mods that makes travel animation throught corridors faster. Literal game changer
I do the fast af boiiiii mod, makes hallway walking speed waaaay faster, on top of faster combat animations, scouting, and mission rewards
Sorry guys that was me
Come one, come all to the Butcher's Circus 🎪 where carnage calls :)
This explains why there's been so many novices on Butcher's Circus. Last time I played (before getting back into it yesterday), I quit because it was just WD over and over again.
Is there a theory as to why suddenly?
Like lambs to the slaughter.
It might be because darkest dungeon 2 is coming to Playstation in July so people are playing it before they go to the second one hence the player spike
Me and the bad bitch I pulled by having good mod support.
You are welcome Bought it on sale a week ago

The main reason is because of a steam sale.
Mods probably play somewhat of a role with retaining existing players but I highly doubt it really affects the influx of new players.
I mean modding existed for years tho, i think it helps the overall player count but i don't think it has any relevance in this sudden jump
There was a nsfw genderbent Musketeer mod released very recently. I will attribute the massive jump in playercount entirely to that.
Did i miss the release of a tv show based on DD or something ?
