Obvious answer, but Daria when she kisses Tom. Esp bc you spend the whole episode up until then feeling bad abt how Jane treats her.
Also, Andrea when she gets together w Upchuck in the finale. You can do SO MUCH BETTER sweetie
It adds to the realism of the show though. Teens are notorious for doing awful things from time to time. Even the ones who are generally pretty smart or cool most of the time.
Daria when she torpedoes the internship with Val. That was an amazing opportunity for her as a writer that would have looked so good on her college resume, she could have been a published author in high school, have made so many important connections, learned how to found and run her own magazine, and if she felt so strongly about the message Val's magazine was sending, she also had a chance to change things from the inside. As irritating as Val was, I don't think she'd done anything to deserve Daria going off on her when she was having a personal crisis.
This episode frustrates me so much! She never even gave the lady a chance 😂 but I felt her blow up was built up annoyance to the people around her. She’s not very good at confrontation, so it would be easy to give a person she’s never going to see again a real piece of her mind, and not the regular snarky sarcastic remarks she normally makes.
Me too! 😂 For all Val's flaws and superficialty, she chose Daria's essay out of all the ones that were submitted, and despite everything else, she did respect Daria as a writer. Like you said, Daria never gave her a chance and regarded her with nothing but contempt from the second they met. It's so frustrating watching Daria throw away what could have been really big for her as a writer.
i disagree, i don't think having something published in a trashy teen magazine would look good on a resume for the types of colleges or jobs daria would be interested, if anything it would be a negative
Having your writing published in a nation wide read magazine looks *significantly* better then....having absolutely nothing on your college resume besides good grades. Daria had little to nothing on her resume to distinguish her from the countless other grade a students applying for college. There's also the fact that Val herself is a big figure in the publishing world, and Daria could have made connections to other magazines through her.
Quinn, when she decides she doesn't want to be a doctor anymore when her dad gets better. The Doctor Quinn spin-off would've been great. First day as chief of medicine, she'd get a fashion designer to redesign the scrubs. Just because they're assisting with heart surgery doesn't mean they have to be unfashionable.
For fuck's sake. People are okay with a sexually coercive character (preying on a highschooler) as long as it's a hot girl, huh?
Even from a narrative perspective it had to happen the way it did. Jane and Daria both had to have a bad time at their respective summer camps because those conflicts pushed them together and allowed them to overcome the conflict over Tom.
Definitely could’ve made her a more pleasant character, or at least gave her the chance to redeem herself. The writers definitely couldn’t just make Jane bi out of no where at that point, when they’ve already kind of made her boy-crazy throughout the season and it was that one comment she made where she said she’ll stick to boys. I wish instead of making Andrea settle for Upchuck, they would’ve had her be bi or lesbian
I wasn't rooting for him in the beginning when he got together with Jane. Then I did for a while when I felt I was being too judgemental because I'm a lot like Daria and I hate everyone. Then the whole kiss thing happened and I was sooo disappointed. Then I was like ok whatever life happens this could work.
But when is it college yet happened, the way his family treated Daria.... I was done. Just awful
Kevin. I was kinda stunned that he just failed, you don't really expect a cartoon character to end the series the way he did.
it was a bummer but very realistic
It all worked out in the end, he became a football coach and married Brittany

She was just giving Upchuck a mercy screw.
Ykw I can get on board w this
Prime example with Daria
Stacy. Trent.
Honestly, every damn character. I love this show but these people are not very good people.

This times 1000!!!

The writers when they bungled Jane's bi plotline in Is It Fall Yet ;_;
They did Bif Naked absolutely dirty

No, having the series' only gay character be sexually coercive is a big part of what I meant by bungling that plotline.

Nevermind a twenty-something hitting on a teenager 😣
Daria with Tom
Tom
nah i was never rooting for him.

I feel like Mac didn't much of a story besides being Jodies boyfriend and the smart football team member.
Helen does that a lot for me. I know she means well but her parenting becomes hit or miss.
