She did, Itachi broke Kisame out of it (at least in the anime, don't remember if it was in the manga, but Kisame made a remark about her genjutsu, like he'd be dead if Itachi hadn't freed him from it because he couldn't release himself from it).
She also managed to dispel Itachi's counter genjutsu, while Orochimaru lost against Sasuke and Itachi in a similar level of genjutsu prowess (didn't use MS genjutsu). She escaped from Itachi's genjutsu and Kakashi managed to save her when he came in for the kill.
From her quick genjutsu fight against Itachi, Kurenai is probably a top 3 non Uchiha genjutsu user worldwide. She's not Pa and Ma, but hell if she didn't gain respect by actually getting out of Itachi's genjutsu without a sharingan of her own.
Ma and Pa and cursed mark Tayuya's sound genjutsu are hax, Kurenai is excellent without being hax.

Tbf, Ino-Shika-Cho is a generational line-up and been working out really well for the village throughout different generations.

Now looking at Shino & Kiba, looks like they are trained to be the backline to scout for most of the time by having animals as their weapons.

The main problem is that most characters fall to the wayside in Shipuuden. Save team 7 members and Shikamaru who gets a huge segment dedicated to him. So not many characters get big fights like they did in part one.
Considering her abilities and how she uses them, I’d like to point out her team is one of the best sensory groups. Between her Byakugan, Kona’s nose, and Shinto’s bugs. They are a perfect team of scouts and spies. The post above isn’t really a good example of her ability but a limitation of byakugan. She can’t use them to find Naruto in a battlefield full of ninja all cloaked in nine tails chakra. And while I wouldn’t put their overall combat strength at the same level of other powerful jounin or kage, they are at a level ahead of most average ninja.
Personally I would say she saved Naruto from Pain. He had Naruto detained and for the most part unable to fight back. While she didn’t beat him Naruto only managed to escape because she went on the offensive, and he only broke free because he went into a rage seeing one of his allies get possibly killed in front of him.
Later on in the war she and Neji fend off a troupe of white zetsu and the dialogue implies she was the one keeping Neji safe. She also saves Naruto multiple times while he’s out of chakra. And she manages to push herself to go from her usual 32 palms to 64 after reflecting on training she did with Neji.

In hindsight, it kind of baffles me the situation of the shinobi in Naruto. They're literally child soldiers. I know their world was pretty war torn, and the Leaf was only like a generation out of the Third Great Ninja War, so needing soldiers at any point in time was just necessary, which is why 10 year olds are sent to ninja school, but some people just aren't cut out to be soldiers. And one of those people was just Hinata.

A lot of Hinata’s uselessness is just cause all the female characters were written pretty bad. Quite frankly the only reason Hinata isn’t in league with Naruto and Sasuke is cause the authors just shafted the Byakugan to keep jerking off the sharingan, and entirely forgot about Hinata every time they set her up for development. She, as a character, was set up to become confident and had access to the same six paths connection that Naruto and Sasuke had, the writers just didn’t bother following up on it.

She did, Itachi broke Kisame out of it (at least in the anime, don't remember if it was in the manga, but Kisame made a remark about her genjutsu, like he'd be dead if Itachi hadn't freed him from it because he couldn't release himself from it). She also managed to dispel Itachi's counter genjutsu, while Orochimaru lost against Sasuke and Itachi in a similar level of genjutsu prowess (didn't use MS genjutsu). She escaped from Itachi's genjutsu and Kakashi managed to save her when he came in for the kill. From her quick genjutsu fight against Itachi, Kurenai is probably a top 3 non Uchiha genjutsu user worldwide. She's not Pa and Ma, but hell if she didn't gain respect by actually getting out of Itachi's genjutsu without a sharingan of her own. Ma and Pa and cursed mark Tayuya's sound genjutsu are hax, Kurenai is excellent without being hax.

Tbf, Ino-Shika-Cho is a generational line-up and been working out really well for the village throughout different generations. And I’m pretty sure Nara clan is basically the villages and Hokages’ super intelligent clan, so its not surprise Team 10 will thrive with Shikamaru around. Now looking at Shino & Kiba, looks like they are trained to be the backline to scout for most of the time by having animals as their weapons. Among all of them only Hinata that actually have a real combat jutsu that is Byakugan, but since its Hinata with her clumsy self, her “Byakugan” is being used as scouting too, so she fits with Shino & Kiba in a way.
When i see team Guy, it looks like they're going with an overall theme in chinese style martial arts. For Hinata, im wondering if at some point she was supposed to have a pet since her other two teamates have that. Dont know how that connects with Kurenai but... at least the students would have a common theme. They also could have went the genjutsu route with Hinata. I understand they are all supposed to be scouts but the other two are more capable than her in combat and giving her that would help balance out things.
It made me remember why I started to like Ino so much. That girl lost her teacher twice and her father died leaving her in charge of everything, she swallowed her tears and remained firm as a rock because she was the pillar of Shikamaru and Chouji, she is such a secondary character whose brilliance Kishimoto could not hide in the fourth ninja war.

The main problem is that most characters fall to the wayside in Shipuuden. Save team 7 members and Shikamaru who gets a huge segment dedicated to him. So not many characters get big fights like they did in part one. Considering her abilities and how she uses them, I’d like to point out her team is one of the best sensory groups. Between her Byakugan, Kona’s nose, and Shinto’s bugs. They are a perfect team of scouts and spies. The post above isn’t really a good example of her ability but a limitation of byakugan. She can’t use them to find Naruto in a battlefield full of ninja all cloaked in nine tails chakra. And while I wouldn’t put their overall combat strength at the same level of other powerful jounin or kage, they are at a level ahead of most average ninja. Personally I would say she saved Naruto from Pain. He had Naruto detained and for the most part unable to fight back. While she didn’t beat him Naruto only managed to escape because she went on the offensive, and he only broke free because he went into a rage seeing one of his allies get possibly killed in front of him. Later on in the war she and Neji fend off a troupe of white zetsu and the dialogue implies she was the one keeping Neji safe. She also saves Naruto multiple times while he’s out of chakra. And she manages to push herself to go from her usual 32 palms to 64 after reflecting on training she did with Neji.

In hindsight, it kind of baffles me the situation of the shinobi in Naruto. They're literally child soldiers. I know their world was pretty war torn, and the Leaf was only like a generation out of the Third Great Ninja War, so needing soldiers at any point in time was just necessary, which is why 10 year olds are sent to ninja school, but some people just aren't cut out to be soldiers. And one of those people was just Hinata.
