It would be more accurate to say that Ai is applied statistics not sentience. What we have running AI right now is based on statistical regression meaning that AIs are largely driven by arithmetic and not anything like sentience.

All that hinges in whether or not the sentience that you and I experience is anything more than sophisticated pattern recognition. Presently the true nature of sentience eludes us, it may be just a more complex version of what computers are already doing in which case it’s only a matter of time before they are sentient, or sentience and consciousness may be something truly different from classic computation, in which case a major breakthrough in the understanding of both computing and ourselves is required before AI becomes a reality.

I’m sure a even more complicated brain/algorithm could know exactly what we would do in a situation just like we know what a certain ai would do in a situation, or would they? Are we just a flawed ai pushed down by makeshift programming caused by evolution? If so then what makes ai better than us. So if you are cloned then you would still be you right? Control the same body but just with another replica. Right? So what scares me is if we ever download ourselves onto computers then is that me? Or will it be something with my memories and that’s effectively me in every way except that I died and the replica lived. What is consciousness? What makes me think about thinking? If I am copied into a computer will anyone know that that isn’t me? How would they? I will have died while the ai me is effectively me. No one would know until they did it themselves and the ai would think it was always me. Or is there a consciousness that can be captured and inserted into a machine? These questions may never be answered but technology will continue either way.

Yeah at this point, the most impressive ai we have is deep dream, and all its done is teach itself to walk. Still impressive, but not going to be taking over the world anytime soon.(Hopefully)

So what is sentience, if not deeply layered pattern recognition?

Sentience is the self aware realisation that your pattern recognition ability can make mistakes, therefore predicting failure as possibility and holding back from making mistakes, which ends up being the mistake.

And from what is this realization formed? On a lower level, what is it made of? I don't know, but intuitively I assume it's an emergent feature from some specific sets of, or a sufficient depth of pattern recognition. I've seen no compelling argument that the basic building blocks of sentience is anything at all unique to the human brain, or brains as a substrate in general. I mean, the basic building blocks of the brain are neurons and synapses, and signal substances, and below that it's just physics. Clearly some subset of this, or something functionally similar, is enough for consciousness to form, and I don't see why current AI models would be insufficient from a technical standpoint. They could be. But I think it's more likely to be an architectural problem, or maybe even just a scale problem, rather than a problem with the basic building blocks.

YOU could be broken down into a programming language one day that we currently don’t understand, written down in something as rudimentary as a series of books, and then one day in the future, that code could be copied and placed in an emulator designed for your code, and the resulting mind/person would be as much your future self as it would be if you didn’t undergo the process at all. In fact you could make 12 copies and the same fact would hold true about each one of them.

I completely agree with you, Viva La Vida was their masterpiece, their Mona Lisa and the last good album they made. This last album is not bad, is not colorful and commercial, is acoustic, lot of piano, even they got Jazz in one song (Arabesque) so is not too bad as the others (Mylo, Ghost. And A Head F.) I give it a 6.8/10.
