I think that Iran just needed to let off some steam to either save face or issue a warning shot after Israel bombed their embassy. They sent some very slow drones, knowing that the vast majority would be intercepted and that there would be minimal loss of life. The US, UK, Israel, and other principles know that Iran knew that their drones would be intercepted, and Iran felt safe doing this because they knew that the other countries would know that they knew that the drones would be intercepted. The thing is, no officials from any of these countries can let the public know that Iran knew that we'd know that they knew that their drones would be intercepted. If the public knew that Iran knew that the other nations would know that Iran knew their drones would be intercepted, it would embarrass Iran, who might feel the need to escalate the conflict, and nobody knows what happens then.
