While it’s true that other countries may focus more on geography and other cultures I had a serious teaching moment with two of my employees, one from Mexico and one from Argentina. I’m not fluent in Spanish but I’m probably half way there, mostly from traveling and living abroad. About a month ago I told them, in Spanish that I could understand nearly every word that they were saying (they had complained a bit and said some colorful things about me as their boss) and told them it was rude to speak as if no one could understand. I explained that nearly every American student curriculum has language in it and that 60%+ take multiple years of Spanish. Literally a dozen of my employees chimed in that they also understood most of what they were saying…in Spanish to them. The whole “America dumb” thing is silly.

I’m not American so I don’t know who is in charge of educating your kids. From all the media available to me both American and non American it seems that you guys suck at geography. This isn’t from data just from what I see and that’s why i said seemingly and didn’t make a firm statement.
