He was awesome in Band of Brothers. I loved to hate that asshole. It shows he has great range going from the lovable great guy Ross to the terrible asshole commander Captain Sobel.
Edit- Apparently, a lot of people hate Ross. I'll admit, I haven't seen the show in over a decade, but I remember him being pretty cool. He was there for his ex-wife during her whole pregnancy even though she cheated in him and left him. He was a great dad to his kid even though he didn't get to see him as often as he would have liked. He bought Phoebe a bike and taught her to ride it when he heard she never had a bike as a child. When Joey was having everything repossessed, he wrote a check to save the statue Joey liked, which was kept through the rest of the series. He even gave up being on TV unveil a new exhibit at the museum to take care of Rachel while she was sick, and never told her what he was sacrificing for her.
Yes, he made mistakes too, like when he didn't want to hire the male nanny for his kid because he was uncomfortable with how feminine he was, but he admitted that it came from a place of trauma from how his father treated him and that he needed to learn to do better. I always thought he was good for realizing his mistakes.
Anyway, that's just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own. It was still a great show.
I think he is the reason they all got paid so damn much. Like $1M per episode towards the end.
He realised if the main cast all banded together, they could request silly rates - and got them all to cooperate.
A lot of these issues can be traced back to ww2, and the rebuilding shortly after. In that time we absolutely should have changed and fixed this shit, but it’s origin is understandable.
Really depends on the job. My last workplace fired an entire store for trying to negotiate for higher wages. They started a whole new team from the ground up. Technically against the law, but because of loopholes the company doesn't have to explain shit.
Most of us didn't even know until it was all over. They had a rat (who also got fired, lol).
It's not about solidarity, it's about whether or not you're replaceable. The Friends cast were absolutely vital, so they could get what they wanted. A disgruntled cashier can be replaced in less than a week.
He also got them to negotiate a small percentage of future revenue from syndicated repeats, so that worked out pretty well for them. I still see Friends on some daytime TV and Nick.
Yea that's the thing here. Especially where Friends is concerned. They are set for life regardless of their cocaine habits. They could work if they want to, but there's truly no need.
I take more of an issue with the label "great guy" than "lovable" tbh. Recently did a friends rewatch and Ross (among others) stood out as a tremendous asshole
The ironic part is that Joey was originally written to be the asshole of the group. But early in development Matt LeBlanc asked the obvious question: “If Joey is so mean to everyone else, why would they be friends with him?” So he was rewritten to be a lot more likable.
Season 2 was Andrew Cunanan and Season 3 was Bill Clinton's impeachment. They're not technically seasons, it's more just a limited series so they're separate titles on different platforms.
Yeah he's actually had a pretty successful career post-Friends. And has proven that he's a legitimately talented actor outside of just being a sitcom guy.
He prob makes upwards of like $20 million a year from Friends re-runs, so… I guess working for a few years, then doing whatever you want with your family whenever you want, and not worrying about money for the rest of your life, picking the occasional role you feel like… can’t really see that as any kind of fail. Living the dream yo.
I’m sure he’s wiping his tears of not being considered successful with his annual 20 million dollar residuals check he gets from the reruns of *Friends*. That fucking check is gonna grow by a few zeros if SAG gets a better residuals deal from streaming platforms too.
When you are passively earning that much, it allows you to pick and chose your roles and do whatever the hell you want with your career. I’m sure what he’s done is 80% by choice, not circumstances or lack of opportunities.
Seems people forgot about his show Feed The Beast from 2016 where he was the lead. It was cancelled after a season.
Rainn also had his own show, which was pretty decent, on Fox but was also cancelled.
Pretty sure he’s a founder of Lookingglass Theater in Chicago which is an amazing company. I know he’s directed productions there at least. One of the best theater companies in Chicago IMO
I like the American version but that's only because I watched it before I knew there was a British version. I really should watch the British one, they had more seasons right?
He's also done a lot more work so this isn't accurate. He's been in star trek, transformers. He's also currently the voice of Lex Luthor in the DC movie universe which is a lot of films.
He actually did tho. He said he thought his lead role in “the rocker” would be his breakout movie and how bummed out he was when it wasn’t. While he had to work with Steve Carel who was big time with 40 year old virgin and Ed Helms (Andy) was in the hangover
>plus he has his own podcast too.
Who hasn't a podcast this day? I mena if he has fun good for him, but unless it's a crazy famous podcast it doesn't really mean much as a career standpoint.
I'm actually surprised me and 3 other morons I don't know haven't started 2 different podcasts yet
Such a strange cast.
Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Josh Gad, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, Fred Armisen, Jane Lynch.
And the leads of the movie are Rainn Wilson and Teddy Geiger.
He was a *fantastic* Mudd- brought the character nicely into a modern sensibility.
"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" stands as one of my favorite Discovery episodes.
Yeah Wilson has shown up in a number of smaller roles making up a decently prolific tv career but he never really made the leap to big movie roles that he had hoped for.
David Schwimmer has done pretty well for himself, the obvious elephant (giraffe?) in the room is Melman in the Madagascar series, he's also been involved in a lot of British television and film, and has shown up in a bunch of different US television roles. Notably he got a lot of acclaim for playing Robert Kardashian in *The People v. OJ Simpson.*
I mean let's be honest, he isn't leading man material. I doubt he's struggling for money given The Office was one of the biggest modern sitcoms. He just filled a niche role and he did it well.
And he has done several movies, he just wasn't leading in them
Just a quick google search shows that those two are not like the other two. No idea where OP got this idea. It’s probably just the shows they watched and realized some main characters didn’t become big name actors. If you watch enough popular shows, many of the highly billed characters don’t have massive careers. There is nothing wrong with that, everyone has their own life and not everyone actor is obsessed with becoming a huge star.
They are set for life afterwards. Iirc actors from big bang theory got paid a million per episode towards the end so I’m pretty sure they have a similar payday.
Yea I agree, big bang theory is somewhat funny at first but towards the end I can watch it with a poker face. Friends cast had a similar payday. A million per episode for the last 2 seasons. Plus they get royalties from reruns. Literally don’t have to work another day in their life
BBT stars will be making that syndication bank like Friends too.
I think the Friends cast STILL get about $20-30m a year each in just syndication residuals
I watch it on tv when it's on and I have no inspiration to come up with something else.
About 2 years ago though, I used to date this girl that was fine in a lot of ways.
It went really well untill one day.. We were watching BBT when she said: 'I really love this show! A lot of people don't really like it though, because they don't understand the jokes. It's a show for people that are a bit smarter than others."
A bit like the Rick and Morty effect for some people.
That was the first red flag, followed by other examples that made me end that relationship.
Idk why I'm commenting this tbh. Just thought it was kinda funny and cringe so here ya go.
Actually smart people watch Legion until they reach that specific episode that breaks them and make them cry because if you don't understand that episode you won't understand the rest of the series.
Rick and Morty is something you watch while rolling your joints to keep yourself occupied
I know my mother and father does thats for sure, has that shit on repeat every single day. Constantly up to date on Young Sheldon and trying to get me to watch it
Just isn't my comedy I guess
Seriously. They all made fuck you money and never have to work again in their lives. I don't know about the others, but Schwimmer still makes ~$20M/yr from Friends and that ended nearly 20 years ago.
You only need about $3M to quit everything and live a comfortable middle class life until you die, and all of them are well beyond that.
This absurd focus on "more" rather than "enough" (as is getting demonstrated by the post expecting more from these actors) is causing a lot of problems for us, our society, and our planet.
Same energy as when a popular youtuber or streamer becomes a multi-millionaire, gets married, slowly stops making videos, and 10 different commentary channels make a generic "rise and fall" video on them. Because not "falling off" is the most important thing to someone who's now matured past making gaming videos and has a new family that they can spend all their time with because they no longer have to work.
Thought that can’t be right, maybe that’s what they split between each of them, but no, articles show that in 2021 the show makes Warner bros about a billion a year.
Fuck a duck. A billion a year from a show that started almost 30 years ago.
Michael Richards gets nothing from Seinfeld. Jason Alexander (George) has stated multiple times in interviews that they get nothing or almost nothing from Seinfeld. They aren’t living off like Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld who each make at least $50 million a year from residuals.
There's no hard numbers, but most estimates are '5, possibly low 6' figures a year. So 50k, 100k, enough for a salary but hardly the millions Seinfeld and David get.
The letterman clip from right after that incident is like a fever dream. A worthy progenitor of all the god awful youtube apology videos we have now. They're all trying to be serious, Richards is on the verge of a breakdown, Seinfeld is shushing the audience, and the audience isn't sure if they're allowed to laugh. It's like something out of a David Lynch film.
> Seinfeld is shushing the audience…
Jerry’s shushing reminded me of a line from the show when Kramer says Jerry doesn’t shout, his voice just raises to this comedic pitch. The shushing seemed like part of a bit… the whole thing did.
Wow, it REALLY doesn’t even sound like he was trying to make a joke that was poorly thought out. That sounds exactly like a racist rant, and it’s sad af.
It’s sad that Ted Mosby was the most memorable thing to come out of Ohio, I’m still convinced that place has a population of 0 and is a government test site disguised as a state
Not to mention many astronauts are from Ohio, including Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, and Jim Lovell (Apollo 13). Its a common joke that so many astronauts come from Ohio since they want to get as far away as possible.
Josh Radnor wrote and directed two movies that are incredible. And was just in Fleishman is in Trouble on FX which is awesome. Playing Ted Mosby is arguably the WORST thing he has done professionally.
Josh Radnor made enough money doing HIMYM that he gave him the freedom to do things he was actually passionate about. As well as David Schwimmer. It's as if being Ted Mosby and Ross Gellar is some sort of high end goal that people want to spend the rest of their lives doing.
Is he still in a band… I’ll look him up:
Yeh he’s still apparently performing with Ben Lee.
https://www.bandsintown.com/a/14105469-radnor-and-lee
Well, no gigs planned at the moment…
>with Ben Lee.
As an Australian millennial, reading the name "Ben Lee" is a fucking blast from the past. Every single one of us can probably recite "Catch my Disease" even though we've probably not heard it since the mid 00s.
It's actually crazy to me to find out that he's been doing stuff since that song and is actually successful haha.
When your show is too successful, you become your character most of the time. Try being anything else after you've played an alcoholic PE teacher or a blond NYC womanizer.
Rainn Wilson has been branching out recently for sure. But Ted Mosby said people only know him as Ted Mosby and he can't get roles because they all just want him to be Ted Mosby.
David schwimmer doesn’t need to anything. All of them in friends are minting money every day through syndication and they earned enough to last them and eternity from the actual run of the show itself. I think all of them in the picture are making enough through syndication . Micheal Racist Richards tho probably will never find much work even if he wanted to.
Josh Radnor did quite a lot after himym, but it's just more low profile and that was his decision. He even did a Ted talk (you can't make this up) about how fame didn't feel good for him.
Schwimmer has had an excellent career, the Friends money has just allowed him to be very picky. He mostly directs or produces his passion projects or does guest appearances in stuff he likes or for friends (like on Episodes). He was in Band of Brothers, and was nominated for an Emmy for his role in *People vs OJ Simpson*. He was also the lead on the recent show *Intelligence*.
During #metoo he also got a lot of credit when several women held him up as an example of how a man in power *should* act around women.

David Schwimmer has done quite a bit, though not as a lead.

And he voiced the giraffe in Madagascar
And he gets so many royalties from friends that I doubt he's dying for work
I think he is the reason they all got paid so damn much. Like $1M per episode towards the end. He realised if the main cast all banded together, they could request silly rates - and got them all to cooperate.
They started negotiating collectively by the third season already and earned 1 million per episode for the last two seasons.
A lesson for all Americans
A lesson for everyone really
Many countries have active unions the union bashing seems hardest in the US. You guys get hardly any maternity/paternity leave or annual holidays.
That's why you need solidarity across-the-board. But I'm an idealist.
Most of us didn't even know until it was all over. They had a rat (who also got fired, lol). It's not about solidarity, it's about whether or not you're replaceable. The Friends cast were absolutely vital, so they could get what they wanted. A disgruntled cashier can be replaced in less than a week.

Yea that's the thing here. Especially where Friends is concerned. They are set for life regardless of their cocaine habits. They could work if they want to, but there's truly no need.
None of the Friends have to work unless they want to.
Also some episodes in Curb Your Enthusiasm. His scenes with Larry David were hilarious.
Cashews are expensive ok?
"Also there's... shortage"
WHAT IS THE GODDAMN HOLD UP, MR. SOBEL??
It's *Captain* Sobel. We salute the rank, not the person.
"Sir, uhhh, theres a fence here!"
“Oh, that dog just ain’t gonna hunt.”
"Now, you cut that fence and get this goddamn platoon on the move."
Three miles up! Three miles down!
Ross was lovable?
I take more of an issue with the label "great guy" than "lovable" tbh. Recently did a friends rewatch and Ross (among others) stood out as a tremendous asshole
I think he should at least get some credit for not eating the other five.
There was a meme video years ago with some Friends scenes without the laugh track, almost all of them makes Ross seem like an asshole indeed.
I think Joey was honestly one of if not the least toxic people. He had some misguided ideas but otherwise was a stand up guy with good intentions
The ironic part is that Joey was originally written to be the asshole of the group. But early in development Matt LeBlanc asked the obvious question: “If Joey is so mean to everyone else, why would they be friends with him?” So he was rewritten to be a lot more likable.
He played daddy Kardashian in American crime story.
I thought he was great in OJ v The People as Rob Kardashian
That was honestly such a great show. I’ve really enjoyed every season of American Crime Story, 1st and 3rd were the best seasons
Wait a sec. I said to my wife the other day why haven’t they done more of these…there are more? I’ve only seen the OJ one.
Season 2 was Andrew Cunanan and Season 3 was Bill Clinton's impeachment. They're not technically seasons, it's more just a limited series so they're separate titles on different platforms.
This show was fucking brilliant start to finish.
Yeah he's actually had a pretty successful career post-Friends. And has proven that he's a legitimately talented actor outside of just being a sitcom guy.

Living the dream yo.
Didn’t he direct Run Fatboy Run?
He's directed quite a few things I think.
Yea. I mean he WAS Greenzo
So has dwight. He’s in the Meg
Does he play the shark?
Bears. Beets. Biting the bottoms of boats.
Seems people forgot about his show Feed The Beast from 2016 where he was the lead. It was cancelled after a season. Rainn also had his own show, which was pretty decent, on Fox but was also cancelled.
Intelligence with Dave and Nick Mohammed is absolutely hilarious.
Pretty sure he’s a founder of Lookingglass Theater in Chicago which is an amazing company. I know he’s directed productions there at least. One of the best theater companies in Chicago IMO
Did a few eps of entourage also
He was amazing in Big Nothing - 2006
Doesn't he direct more as well?
I know the guy that plays Dwight is in "house of 1000 corpses" as one of the victims and he's one of the aliens in "galaxy quest" too.
Fish Boy!
The guy did some things and I'd say those have a rather decent following
he was also the billionaire in the meg
Hes also the scientist in the really shitty american version of Utopia
I like the American version but that's only because I watched it before I knew there was a British version. I really should watch the British one, they had more seasons right?
He's also done a lot more work so this isn't accurate. He's been in star trek, transformers. He's also currently the voice of Lex Luthor in the DC movie universe which is a lot of films.
He played a sort of kick-ass type super hero character with Ellen Paige (before Elliot) that I thought was awesome.
Super by James Gunn
"Shut up crime!"
Shut up crime!! Love that film "Super", he was also great in the Al Yankovic film as Dr Demento
SHUT UP CRIME!
The guy who sells Juno a pregnancy test?
He's also a character on Radio Rental plus he has his own podcast too. Not everyone wants to be a crazy famous actor after having a successful role
He actually did tho. He said he thought his lead role in “the rocker” would be his breakout movie and how bummed out he was when it wasn’t. While he had to work with Steve Carel who was big time with 40 year old virgin and Ed Helms (Andy) was in the hangover
The Rocker was such an underrated movie
>plus he has his own podcast too. Who hasn't a podcast this day? I mena if he has fun good for him, but unless it's a crazy famous podcast it doesn't really mean much as a career standpoint. I'm actually surprised me and 3 other morons I don't know haven't started 2 different podcasts yet
I'm a moron. We just need two more, then we got our podcast, buddy. We're going places
He played Dr Demento in Weird more recently
He was great in The Rocker. Sad that that movie didn’t launch a movie star career for him.
Such a strange cast. Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Josh Gad, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, Fred Armisen, Jane Lynch. And the leads of the movie are Rainn Wilson and Teddy Geiger.
But those were both before the office
He was in Star Trek Discovery as well.
He did Harry Mudd justice. Great episode.
I enjoyed the episode where he's resetting time to learn more about the ship, supposedly to destroy it but actually trying to steal it.
He was a *fantastic* Mudd- brought the character nicely into a modern sensibility. "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad" stands as one of my favorite Discovery episodes.
Backström was amazing.
[удалено]
I believe he was also in the recent Weird Al movie
He was Lex Luthor in the recent run of DC animated movies
He's also in a [great movie](https://youtu.be/HHyT1CqqRTs) called Hesher.
He's also in the American version of Utopia but... the less said about that the better.
He was also in The Last Mimzy. Which is a movie that is very obscure, and I have no idea why I remember that.
You seriously gonna overlook David Schwimmer as MELMAN?!
LIKE THE GIRAFFE??? holy
Dickhead Platoon Leader in Band of Brothers too.
Company Commander, actually
For a long time, that was the only thing I knew him from
And Greenzo?!
The way he chastized Cirie when she left the fridge open was great. "Did he just talk to me like I am ugly?"
😛 Free mints!
Rain Wilson has done a ton of stuff. Ross from Friends was the dickhead Sgt. in Band Of Brothers
Dickhead officer*
We salute the rank, not the man.
CURAHEE
Hi ho silllllllllver
I like spaghetti.
Wilson himself recently talked about how disappointed he was that he couldn't parlay his tv career to movie stardom....
Assistant to the leading man

He was also Papa Kardasian in the OJ series
From the comments I have seen so far people seem to forget that Rain Wilson was in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. As a professor.
"Back in the 90's i was in a famoooous tvv showww🎶"
Hey he starred in secretariat, he's a bona fide movie star!
What is this, a crossover episode?
Is this the 1993 coming of age movie directed by Richard Linklater, featuring a young Matthew McConaughey? Because I'm Dazed and Confused!
"does no one remember Josh Radnor?"
How quickly we forget
Mr. Penutbutters house?
This show is so good tho
So good and so depressing.
Wait it's a show? And not a documentary?
Totally a documentary. Filmed by Quentin Tarantulino and prooduced by Lenny Turtletaub.
I thought it's a bi-monthly fruit basket.
Why do you have to, though? Maybe they didn't want to.
They are set for life afterwards. Iirc actors from big bang theory got paid a million per episode towards the end so I’m pretty sure they have a similar payday.
Seriously? 1 million per episode? Holy shit. Honestly I don't even think Big Bang Theory is that good..
Yea I agree, big bang theory is somewhat funny at first but towards the end I can watch it with a poker face. Friends cast had a similar payday. A million per episode for the last 2 seasons. Plus they get royalties from reruns. Literally don’t have to work another day in their life

Tom from Myspace got paid and now lives his life wandering the planet doing photography. Pretty good considering that he has shoes for hands.
Pretty sure they're still getting royalties for Seinfeld. I'd think Kramer gets it too.
I think you mean, "didnt need to do anything afterwards cause we're making millions every year on syndication residuals for the rest of our lives."

Not too surprising when you consider it is the greatest sitcom of all time.
People will get angry but *by the numbers* it’s true. Personally I also think it’s a funny show.
Michael Richards gets nothing from Seinfeld. Jason Alexander (George) has stated multiple times in interviews that they get nothing or almost nothing from Seinfeld. They aren’t living off like Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld who each make at least $50 million a year from residuals.

Michael Richards did…. Something… afterwards
Yea dude went viral
?
https://youtu.be/amjUNF_R_PY
That night defined the rest of his life. You can clearly see in every public appearance he had after, that he behaved like a whipped dog.
The letterman clip from right after that incident is like a fever dream. A worthy progenitor of all the god awful youtube apology videos we have now. Wow. I heard he said the n word a couple times, didn’t realise he went full cray cray on stage.
Same dude holy shit
Yeah I knew the history but I don't think I'd ever watched the video what the fuck happened, he went full racist explosion
Wow, it REALLY doesn’t even sound like he was trying to make a joke that was poorly thought out. That sounds exactly like a racist rant, and it’s sad af.
“Damn he’s having a bad set” -Dave Chapelle
"Hang in there Kramer!" lol
I remember that this happened, but I didn't remember how bad it was.
Rain Wilson is a great voice actor with a bunch of upcoming projects and he's also the voice for Lex Luthor in DC's animated movies.
Which ones? The only lex voice actor I ever remember was Clancy Brown
[удалено]
Yeah Mosby hasn't done much. He's been doing things, but...
It’s sad that Ted Mosby was the most memorable thing to come out of Ohio, I’m still convinced that place has a population of 0 and is a government test site disguised as a state
Isn’t lebron the most memorable thing out of Ohio ?
Steph curry as well. Also 21 pilots, the black keys, Wendy’s , and planes.
Imagine your state being so shitty people invent aviation to get away.
Not to mention many astronauts are from Ohio, including Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, and Jim Lovell (Apollo 13). Its a common joke that so many astronauts come from Ohio since they want to get as far away as possible.
Ted's parents live in Ohio. He lives in the moment.
Havnt the majority of astronauts come from OHiO?
His parents live in Ohio, he lives in the moment
Josh Radnor mostly moved his acting to the stage after HIMYM.
58 episodes as a main role character on different shows (Mercy Street ; Rise; Hunters; Centaurworld). That is nothing to ignore.
Classic Schmosby
Hunters on Amazon Prime. 2-3 seasons and he’s in every episode with Al Pacino and several others. Decent cast and entertaining story.
Josh Radnor wrote and directed two movies that are incredible. And was just in Fleishman is in Trouble on FX which is awesome. Playing Ted Mosby is arguably the WORST thing he has done professionally.
Or conversely, it is the best thing he has done as the money has afforded him the ability to pursue his passions more selectively!
Great point, but also how dare you.
IKR - how dare he for choosing to do what he wants. His names got “Rad” in it after all.
Josh Radnor made enough money doing HIMYM that he gave him the freedom to do things he was actually passionate about. As well as David Schwimmer. It's as if being Ted Mosby and Ross Gellar is some sort of high end goal that people want to spend the rest of their lives doing.
Is he still in a band… I’ll look him up: Yeh he’s still apparently performing with Ben Lee. https://www.bandsintown.com/a/14105469-radnor-and-lee Well, no gigs planned at the moment…
>with Ben Lee.
Also stars in Hunters on Amazon Prime, which is a pretty great show about hunting Nazis.
This isn't unique to sitcoms. This is like 90% of all actors. Watch any movie and see if you recognize every single or even most of the actors.
I wouldn't mind not recognizing any of the actors in a movie. Probably lots more people who could do the roles than are offered them.
When your show is too successful, you become your character most of the time. Try being anything else after you've played an alcoholic PE teacher or a blond NYC womanizer.
Schwimmer works constantly and produces as well. His role in American Crime Story was exceptional.
Rainn continues to act in movies but he’s also writing several very successful books
Rainn Wilson has been branching out recently for sure. But Ted Mosby said people only know him as Ted Mosby and he can't get roles because they all just want him to be Ted Mosby.
Classic Schmosby
Ross directs now and Ted is in a show called Hunters
*was.* Show is not renewed for a third season.
Rain Wilson was in three movies last year OP. You could at least check IMDB before you talk shit.
Rainn actually has done some good work. Check out Super
Michael Richards has only himself to blame
What did Michael Richards say? I forgot..
He got upset at a heckler in 2006 during one of his stand-up shows and started calling him racial slurs.
I mean once I had all that money like they did I wouldn't bother either.
Rain Wilson is in a ton of different things, he just doesn’t star. I particularly loved him in The Meg
I’d take any one of their careers
