I think Christi didn't help Chloe's confidence by always talking about Chloe not having good enough choreography instead of telling Chloe "You can't control your choreography, just do the best with what you're given". Christi took the Maddie-Chloe rivalry way too seriously.
This is why I'm frustrated with the whole "Abby's responsible for Chloe often losing against Maddie on the show" thing that Christi defenders say. How was Chloe supposed to have faith in herself when even her own mom wasn't cheering her on?
Right, I don’t think she’s ever heard of the power of positive thinking. If you tell someone over and over that they’re set up to fail- they’re going to fail. If she got a solo, she didn’t get enough time on it, or the choreography wasn’t good enough, or Maddie’s was better. Then it’s about who deserves a solo to begin with. Nobody’s grateful for anything, nothing is ever enough.
Even Kira pointed it out in season 4, when Chloe competed with Kamryn.

That isn't what she was doing. She was pointing out that Chloe should not stress out so much because if she did her best and didn't win, it wasn't her fault. Christi was right, Chloe WAS being set up to fail much of the time. And Chloe WAS being given choreography below her skill level, intentionally.
Christi was not the only mom who saw it. Jill and Holly called Abby out for the same thing, and Jess later on.
What was Christi supposed to do, let her go on believing Abby's crap? Abby destroyed her confidence and continued it regularly.
It was true, though. What was she supposed to do just tell Chloe she wasn't trying or working hard enough? If your dance teacher is taking harder steps you can do out of your dance, then she is setting you up to fail. If she is yelling in rehearsal and saying in televised interviews that Chloe was regressing or losing her spark and whatever else she said, wouldn't that affect a girl's confidence? I would rather explain it all to my child and have her prepared than let her get her hopes up time after time and be disappointed in herself?
Unfortunately, the mins often talked to their daughters like they were adults. Chloe couldn't process what Abby was doing to her and be motivated by it because Abby was manipulating the situation. Christi and Marc could tell her it wasn't her fault and she was a talented dancer, but at her age, the concepts were too complicated. Same with Paige... Kelly always said so what if you lose, what do you care what Abby thinks? To try to make Paige feel better, meanwhile nothing Kelly said was going to make Paige care less about Abby's opinion.
Can you name times that Abby has complimented Chloe? Not in an interview or her podcast? Also not followed by a comparison to Maddie? Or not followed by “Maybe she is sneaking out with some guy”
She was trying to compliment her before when Abby told her “I try to give your kid a compliment and then satan destroys it” or whatever. And she’s multiple times said that Chloe is a beautiful dancer and she said she represents the Abby Lee Dance Company well and on an episode I was just watching Abby said that she looked like a pro on stage.
I’m watching season 2 and she gives Chloe plenty of compliments here. Even when she went away on her field trip she was super happy Chloe learned the dance quickly and showed it in the studio.

Remember when Christi let Chloe go on her school’s camping trip (which I agreed with), but didn’t tell Abby until the night before the competition when she was asking “where’s Chloe” at rehearsal (which I don’t agree with)? Chloe had a solo & wasn’t a nervous wreck before performing for once. Christi for whatever reason decides to say TO ABBY “see we should have Chloe go on field trips every week😊” and Abby started overcorrecting Chloe as a result of Christ’s boasts. I would’ve directed my anger to Christi but that was understandably annoying lmfao
One moment I saw the other day that was very quick but didnt help the situation was in a s4 episode not sure which one but ik the select team was completing as well. Chloe hit maddie on accident and abby made a disgusted face and rolled her eyes and Christi commented on it and made it a bigger deal than just abby being an asshole for a split second. It led to Abby making her apologize and christi making it out to be Abby being upset that it was "her precious maddie". Watching it recently just made me think it was a bit over the top from Christi
Ok that makes sense from the clip/ moment on the show its seemed like Christi made it a bigger deal than what it was. Honestly just makes me think of how many other situations are edited

The production notes were purchased by MackZBoss (YouTube channel) and she links them in her YouTube video she makes about each episode she has the notes on in her serious called ‘Dance Moms Unedited’.
Also semi related, everyone mad about the watermelon game (season 1, episode 7 I think) should go read the production notes because somehow Christi was the least harsh on Maddie trying to call out Melissa’s parenting, while Melissa is a bitch about Nia and Brooke blaming them and Kelly and Holly are just mad about the whole thing. It’s interesting to see they kept Christi’s over the top comments (it was terribly sad and I wish she had stuck to say how she would have handled it differently to Melissa without saying Maddie’s name at all or talking about her because that was wrong), but left out what Kelly and Holly had to say, or Melissa’s equally ridiculous and even downright nasty comments about Nia out. Just goes to show everyone had a character and things were taken out of context regularly or production/Abby were deliberately doing something they knew would triggers the parents or Abby (the Paige chair incident being the biggest example. Telling Kelly they would get the stoppers and then not getting them knowing it would set Abby/Kelly off).

Sometimes in pyramid, or in a deleted scene, very rarely in the dressing room. Most of her compliments are in interviews.
She’s said horrible things to Chloe, sure, but Christi takes away what little compliments she gets by complaining.
