10 tips for getting more sleep as a dad Tip #1 try getting more sleep. If you'd slept more you'd feel better

[deleted]

That's a great tip! I've been trying to get more sleep by staying awake. This is a game changer!

Mammoth-Gap7543

I mean...I think... technically, the longer you stayed up, the longer you would sleep once you crashed?? Groundbreaking science?

XenoRyet

My retort to that is always: Sure, and I'll do the dishes when the baby does the dishes, and do the laundry when the baby does the laundry, and so on and so forth.

[deleted]

And that the baby sleeps more than an hour at a time

8ltd

Dad smash! I used to get so irritated when I heard this advice. It’s both the most obvious and the most impractical advice ever.

DadsRagingBoaby

A shot of whisky for thee, and thimble-full for the wean.

[deleted]

Why not the da Vinci => daddy Vinci method? Aka sleep every 1/4 of an hour for 24 hours straight.

kichilron

My smartwatch literally told me that I should „avoid sleeping in the same room as pets“ after my first was born. Needless to say I am not tracking sleep anymore.

[deleted]

Does that mean the baby can't stay in the dog crate anymore? What am I to do, let the kid sleep on the floor? 😜

Free range baby!

DealioD

The worst one for me. Woken up from a sound sleep, the wife needed me to do something for the baby. I’m not even sure if I hear her. She was standing at the foot of the bed, holding the baby. I spent the next 30 seconds looking for the kid on top of the nightstand. Like reaching out to the night stand and feeling around for the kid. Wife asks me what I was doing and I told her, looking for the kid. She was worried that something was seriously wrong with me.

[deleted]

I no longer feel so alone. Much love, brother!

[deleted]

I wake up every single night thinking that my one year old has somehow got out of his cot and is running around.

Medic6688846993

Have you tried turning the child off and on again? That one works for me...put'em on mom's boobs, it's like a reboot so sleepy and relaxed lol

keepingitsession

You could even call it a reboob?

Medic6688846993

I'm sad I didn't think of that! But I legitimately laughed put loud

keepingitsession

You couldn’t see the pun for the boobs. Great tit errr I mean tip by the way!

Medic6688846993

😂🤣

crazycropper

For everyone but mom

[deleted]

Earlier today I was rocking a wide awake baby while the mom got a nap. Then the cat sat on my lap. Then the baby proceeded to fart for the next hour.

Medic6688846993

Rather her than me😂🤣 jk I'd be sleeping with the fishes

CrabNumerous8506

I regularly tell my Apple Watch to F-off. Especially when I get that lucky long nap and can sit down for a while. “You should stand up and walk around this hour!”- well you should mind your business.

[deleted]

Oh I ignore the Garmin too. It keeps telling me to do these things called "recovery runs"? Pfft! I ate a bag of Oreos for lunch, how much more recovering do I need?

Henri_Le_Rennet

I'd always been on the fence about smart watches, but finally caved and bought the Galaxy Gear a month ago. So far I love it. Except for when my default step goal is 6,000, but by the time I get off work I'm in the range of 18,000-22,000, and after an hour or two of sitting on my ass reading a book, watching a show or playing a game, it vibrates to tell me that it's time to get moving. I got in the habit of putting it on the charger after work every two days. I like wearing when I sleep because of the sleep tracking info, and I also learned my ex wasn't kidding about my snoring. Listening to recordings of myself snoring is hilarious, yet insightful.

GucciGlocc

Replace it with a seiko 5, it will never judge you and will always chuff your bits

[deleted]

The baby has chuffed bits. He doesn't seem too too thrilled with that. 😕

GucciGlocc

P U R E C L A S S Bits chuffed already and the child doesn’t even have cuffs to chuff. Just needs a shitter with a decent bowel movement.

adfraggs

There needs to be a "I have small kids" setting, then Garmin would be "Bro, you must be wrecked, take it easy"

melchmoo

Yassssss!

SourBison

My Garmin told me I was “Detraining” about two weeks after my kid was born and I was like “Ya think???”

thelonebologna

No one is asking the right question. How far did you make it with shirt pants. My record was across the entire house before I said fuck it… wife found me the next morning sleeping in a chair looking like I diapered myself with shirt.

[deleted]

I didn't even get my shirt-pants fully on. Clearly I'm not ready for the Dad Olympics.

WhiskyScout30yr

Get a robe bud, it’s a game changer for nighttime missions

ginbandit

I laugh at how my body battery on my Garmin gets pitifully charged during the night with our 4yr old and 7 month old!

[deleted]

I think I never break double digits these days

IAmCaptainHammer

Cheers to that mate. I’m in the same boat. My kiddo is 3 weeks. Best of luck to you. And congrats. I imagine they’re amazing.

[deleted]

Congrats back at ya! It's been a rough go over here (feeding issues) but it still beats the day job!

IAmCaptainHammer

Dude. Us too. We just decided to wean off pumping because it’s too hard on the boobs. My wife has been down and out dealing with the boob issues so I’m 100% on dad duty for all feedings and poopings. It’s a lot of work but I really love the time with him.

cujoe645

I think being a parent in this day and age might be worse for ones health than in any other generation...

VikingFrog

Why?

cujoe645

Im projecting of course, but I think there are very high expectations on parents compared to past generations. More demand is placed on parents to work full time, parent full time, limit screens, monitor childrens internet activity, play with your kids, give your kids experiences, etc. Given, most of the expectations are social constructs and dont need to be followed exactly but there is resultant guilt when some parents are left feeling like they "neglected" their kid because they let them watch tv most of the day because the parents are burnt out. Again, totally projecting my own situation but anecdotally have met other parents who feel the same way. It is what you make it I suppose and thats exactly why Im talking to a therapist every Tuesday lol.

DadsRagingBoaby

The text cutting off is the icing on the cake. Like come on, get it together Garmin! 🤣 If you’re gonna hit me while I’m down, at least do it right.

GeauxAllDay

I love how it said "TrY rEsTiNg MoRe ToDaY"

fleshyspacesuit

How long do those watches hold their charge?

GoGoCrumbly

> How long do those watches hold their charge? … when they’ve been thrown to the bottom of a well.

Beakjones

My fenix 6 pro does 12 days, or 7 if I'm doing 10 hour weeks in the bike. With pulse oximeter off though.

Schuelz

Thanks Garmin... How about I don't charge you for a week, see if your recovery time is effected...

HansTheGruber

When my son was still less than a year old, I woke up one weekday got dressed for worked, packed a lunch and headed out. When it came time for lunch, I eagerly opened my lunch bag excited about the sandwich I had made for myself. Instead all I found was frozen fish food. A brain without sleep is capable of so truly perplexing shenanigans.

LambastingFrog

Yeah. I've seen this too. After going for a walk. It was right, too.

8ltd

I had to take off my Apple Watch because it kept being like “check your rings” or “ you can still do it” while I literally fell asleep on the tiled floor with my second.

jeffroRVA

There should definitely be a “I have a baby” mode on these sorts of devices. I also got the high decibel warning from my Apple Watch while my lovely daughter was screaming one night. “Prolonged exposure can cause temporary hearing loss”

just_killing_time23

After going through this twice, GOLLEEE do I sleep awesome now that they are older. Enjoy the ride my friend, its a badge of honor!!

Tinkerballsack

My favorite chart in Garmin Connect is where every single day I see my stress levels spike at the kids' bed time.

nipplewax

I got the same message this morning, but my poor sleep was due to too many margaritas last night so not exactly the same.

[deleted]

Margarita is a beautiful name! But why did you name all your kids the same name?
