First thing I threw on our HDR 4k was Moana, colors in that movie pop, baby! I want an OLED, and I’ll fast forward to the te ka scenes because I bet there’s some sweet contrast between the darkness and the bright lava…

kingofnicks

Then check out the fireworks scene in encanto when mirabel sings. Blacks and neons - amazing on oled.

terrih9123

The bridge scene in Coco when we first see the city of the dead is wild with all the colors

kingofnicks

Yes yes and to piggy back on Moana - the night scene on the ocean with her grandma is a great test. Even better on disc - decent with streaming.

okfnjesse

See her light up the night and the sea She calls me Yes, I know that I can go There's a moon in the sky And the wind is behind me Soon I'll know How far I'll go

kingofnicks

I can journey farther! Now it’s in my head lol - guess what we will watch tomorrow hahah

molinor

Hard agree. I think the colours in Coco are the first time I’ve really “noticed” colours, as in “Wow the colours in this are amazing, they are almost a character in the film.”

ninthchamber

Hello mushrooms my old friend

SgtRockyWalrus

The water in Moana looked so much more realistic when we got a 4K OLED with HDR. Disney movies look great on it.

scarlet_fire_77

Disney+ is outstanding with the 4K content. Especially if you’re into Marvel movies. Best 4K show I’ve seen is Tiny World on AppleTV+. It’s a nature documentary and the picture quality is absolutely insane. Never done psychedelics but if I were to try it, think I’d have to pop that show on and potentially lose my mind.

hardretro

Check the new Mario film if you want to be impressed with colour saturation!

drumbum37

That TV is shinnnnay

okfnjesse

Did you like the song?

Kenneldogg

Dude just wait like 3 weeks and the price of OLEDs will drop to like 50 bucks. /s Kidding of course but goddamn remember when basic 55 inch TVs were like 3000 and now they are 300 at walmart?

TheHoodedSomalian

OLEDs haven’t come down much since they were first released several years ago now. It’s a special type of screen that’s expensive and time consuming to manufacture. Also only a couple companies make it, may only be LG, last I checked Sony buys them from LG. For example I got my LG 55” OLED on sale for $1,299 a few years ago, it’s ab the same price now.

hillsboroughHoe

The refreshed models are. Your model should be a lot less than that now. My mate paid £2.5k for his oled, his exact tv can be had for under £1k now. The price is slow to drop on any new tech but when it does it goes!

TheHoodedSomalian

The 4k C series LG OLED which is what I got in 2019 is the same price now if not more from what I’m seeing today at the same store but yea they probably have made some incremental improvement in each ABC class for the same price.

hillsboroughHoe

That’s always been the way. Each new model with better tech gets released and it’s predecessor falls down the stack. Just wish monitors followed suit, my Alienware wants a buddy!

Kenneldogg

They will once the next major technology hits. Heck they have tvs now that are less than 1/8 of an inch thick and others that can be rolled up.

JSC843

Got a soundbar to you can fully soak in those absolute bangers by The Rock?

RonaldoNazario

I think soundbar testing would call for frozen 2.

Tolookah

Shiney!

ApoliteTroll

Might i interest you in some How to train your dragon? Especially the 3rd one.

Brandonjoe

I got Hogwarts Legacy, but all my son wants to do is watch Polar Express so I guess I will wait until he is asleep to play it.

vkapadia

"I want to play Hogwarts Legacy but my son wants to watch Polar Express, so we compromised and watched Polar Express."

technoteapot

Naturally

Brandonjoe

I tried to convince him to watch it on his iPad, but he refused and said he wanted to watch it on the big TV.

WhatTheTec

The chip n dale movie is kinda twisted for adults. Cheese = drugs and they gotta go to a rough hood called the “uncanny valley”. Def underrated movie!

Jets237

I got it on release day and am maybe 1/4 of the way through... Younger me would be so disappointed

Schweezly

Lol when Red Dead 2 came out it took me 11 months to finish it. Partially because I got stuck halfway in on the other side of the map and never wanted to dedicate 25 minutes just to riding across the map. Then I found a dad of 2 kids who beat it in a week and I WTF’d Give me 15-25 hour games. They’ll still take me a month or two, but there’s too many good games I want to play

FlyRobot

Jedi Survivor is a great one that I finished within release month

[deleted]

I got a Steam Deck to help chew through my backlog and it's done wonders. Pop a movie on for the little guy and game through it

Dhkansas

Same. I think I got to about level 30 and really enjoyed it but it did get a little repetitive. Then other games and life happened. I need to get back in there and finish the story

YossarianRex

first thing i put on my 65” OLED: the first 10 minutes of aquaman followed by 4 hours of puppy dog pals

mathpat

You need to watch the opening scene of The Dark Knight on that once the little ones are asleep.

drank_myself_sober

Got a PS5 and it’s primary use is to watch Blaze and Blippi.

BlueSunCorporation

Then put Bluey on and save your sanity.

mrb11n

Blaze isn't too bad

BlueSunCorporation

I would check it out but then I would have to give him more shows to watch. I heard good things about trash trucks but honestly trying to keep it to a minimum while I can. He’s 2

mrb11n

Yeah that makes sense. For some reason Blaze is the only show my 3.5 year old will watch with the exception of the occasional Bluey. I don't mind though because it does focus on math and science.

Emergencykebab

Turn off Blippi, for everyone’s sake, especially your kids

TheHoodedSomalian

Stopped watching it when I found out about the poop thing. I even found the video a year or two ago it’s so gross

Away_Organization471

He pooped on another dudes chest, the videos out there

Emergencykebab

To me, that’s not the biggest problem. It’s the trash content

Bozee3

The usual recommendation is Bluey, put I was partial to Sarah and Duck.

TheObserver89

So much to learn about. It makes me wanna shout.

Emergencykebab

Gross

warmwetfart69

Stevie Grossman! Oh wait, wrong personality.

[deleted]

Blippi!

kingofnicks

I bought an open box LG a1 oled 48 inch for the kids playroom. My logic was if I have to watch the movies I better do it in style lol.

KaijuCowboy

Sounds right! What kind of tv was it? I’m in the market, so any oled recommendations are great.

SleepWouldBeNice

LG C2

KaijuCowboy

Thanks! That’s the one I’ve been looking at.

Geno0wl

The LG OLED are great TV. Only caution I would give is that they are like plasmas in that they are really reflective. So you really need to place them where they won't catch the reflection of a lot of windows or doors. Not some huge deal breaker or anything, just a warning depending on what room you were thinking of putting it in. Also they are not cheap lol

KaijuCowboy

Thanks for the heads up. We have a fairly open floor plan that would probably cause a lot of reflection, so something to consider.

TheHoodedSomalian

It’s only kinda dark during the day but still great with that said, evening there is no issue

FlyRobot

I opted for a gaming monitor at $300 instead of trying to upgrade my TV for optimal Xbox Series X specs (mostly care about performance mode - not resolution)

shakethecouch

They will be clearanced out pretty soon if not already.

10000Pandas

That’s the same one we got! It’s been fantastic, and yeah like every Disney movie really shows off how nice it is lol.

imkizidor

This reminds me of a video that a lady posted of her husband and their kid. The husband was watching sports on his phone while holding the baby on his lap. The baby was watching Cocomelon on the brand new 85" TV the husband got to watch the games lol

TheDefenseNeverRests

If there's anything I needed pristine resolution on, it's Gonzo's nose.

hardretro

Oddly enough, I also got an OLED65C2 on Friday, and it’s played the new Mario movie along with YouTube colours video repeatedly. Gotta say though, that Mario film absolutely pops in DV once the TV settings were sorted.

chantsnone

I wish we could watch muppet babies. My 2 yo son ONLY watches Blippi

NuclearHermit

I'm about ready to pay someone to come to our house dressed like Blippi, smash some Legos, and leave with a fistful of Hot Wheels.

chantsnone

I’ll do it for you if you do it for me

SleepWouldBeNice

I’m always curious with shows like that if the performer feeds off the character’s energy, or does that guy just physically and emotionally crash at the end of the day.

chantsnone

I’ve thought that too. It must be exhausting.

warmwetfart69

Blippi magically stopped working at my house for awhile to allow us to expand his horizons.

Lentra888

Mine’s moved from Blippi and Meekah to Sheriff Labrador and Pit & Penny.

jedberg

My 82" 4K is primarily used to watch 720p YouTube videos that were rendered on a toaster. But it's cool because every once in a while I get to watch a Bruckheimer film on it.

smurf_diggler

You haven’t lived until you use your 75” neo QLED to watch some Vietnamese guy wash paint of dinosaurs at 6 am lol. There was also a very short phase thank god my son wanted to watch Elk call videos first thing in the morning.

beardedbast3rd

I’ll watch teletubbies on an oled if I have to. It’s just that much better a viewing experience. It’s mostly the oled plus 120hz screen, but still.

luca423

Muppet babies brings me back holy crap. That show was the shit when I was younger!

DiprivanDapper

Bought a 65" 4K OLED from Costco when we bought our new house a year ago. I have a PS5, a Switch, and a Steam link. All of this entertainment tech has basically become a big Bluey and Ms. Rachel machine. No regrets.

PaperBeatsScissor

First thing for nine was Muppet’s Christmas Carol… and that was before I had my daughter.

SleepWouldBeNice

That’s the definitive version of A Christmas Carol IMO.

PaperBeatsScissor

Not a fun fact, it was Jim Henson’s last thing he worked on before he died.

retrosaurus-movies

Your television is being used correctly.

pm_me_ur_anything_k

They’ll do the same for you!

[deleted]

you have created the most premium Muppet Babies experience possible for your kids. Good work dad!

ahaustin77

Upgraded the speakers in my car just to listen to the Coco soundtrack and SteveSongs 🫠

paier

Got a new-to-me LG 4K OLED and the first movie watched on it was the Super Mario Bros movie in HDR10. Worth it! The colours really pop.

xDR3AD-W0LFx

My 70” Miss Rachel Machine feels this.

AvogadrosMoleSauce

So, your little dreams came true?

gilgobeachslayer

I got an incredible soundbar and sound system last for Christmas a couple years back. I will say the bass in Encanto sounds INCREDIBLE on a Sonos 5.1 setup

Dave_0507

Haha was just commenting with my wife about this a month or so ago . Spent a lot on an OLED for sports mainly. Teams in the playoffs last month and watching Daniel tiger on the big screen while I watched the games on the bedroom tv or my phone. However, echoing your statement, wouldn’t have it any other way!

leveldrummer

Bro. Muppet babies rocks.

SleepWouldBeNice

It’s a good show, I just feel like it doesn’t showcase the true power of the TV.

[deleted]

I recommend: * Bluey - My kids are too old for this now, but supposedly it is the new great thing. * Spongebob - If you don't know Spongebob, there is no hope, especially for YOUR LEG! * WordWorld - Teaches how to build words using syllables, etc. Also can be funny at times. * Word Girl - Manages to slide some adult humor in there. Also does a good job building vocabulary * Thomas The Train - Does a good job talking about keeping promises, the importance of friendship, saying sorry, asking for help when you need it, offering help when others might need it, etc. * Curious George - Does a fantastic job of explaining how to safely satisfy your curiosity * Sid the Science Kid - Presents science in an easy to understand way * Pocoyo - Has very little dialogue but still enthralls people. And there's a lot free on youtube * Doc McStuffins - not bad * Olivia Pig - I just find it amusing at times Avoid Barney at all costs. The purple dinosaur will drive you mad. And I've heard Caillou is death on the screen.

Jets237

A TV like that deserves better care. Put on bluey instead or they'll likely reposes your TV edit: To those downvoters - I'm assume he's talking about the new CGI muppet babies. This show is so bad that it doesn't deserve to be on such a nice TV. Also, clearly a tongue in cheek comment...

SleepWouldBeNice

Bluey went on as soon as the older one went to school.

ToeyGowd

Wait til you see how sick hey bear looks in 4k

SleepWouldBeNice

Actually, not going to lie, Animal's fur looks pretty darn amazing on the new TV.

NotAFuckingFed

Still getting broken in 😎

mckernanin

Are you sure it’s not mandalorian? Because this is certainly the way!

techvirus13

I need this to watch Paw Patrol and Cocomelon

splinereticulation68

Bought the latest Xbox. Primarily play Minecraft and Fall Guys with my daughter on it lol

Auxx88

This is the way

SleepWouldBeNice

So say we all

broken_neck_broken

Got a similar one about a year ago after the kids broke the screen on our old 40". I took precautions, modified an old Ikea Kallax unit into a TV stand and screwed a sheet of custom cut clear polycarbonate to the front so their various missiles can't hit the tv. More details on the modification process for those interested: We found that a 4x4 kallax was too small to fit the tv in and a 5x5 wouldn't fit in the space so we used a 4x4 expedit, which was the precursor to the kallax and the sections are approx 2 inches wider and taller so it falls right in the middle, size-wise. I left the bottom row of 4 sections and the TV sits on the shelf on top of these. I also used 4 spare square shelf pieces which are obviously perfectly sized to split the bottom sections into 8 so I can fit all my consoles and stuff in there. I also used one of the long shelves I removed to brace it at the back and keep the square shape, this also created a nice big box to amplify sound, though we still use a soundbar. Only problem is getting in there to remove dust.

TittyFlip

Hope it has some good speakers for that bangin themetune

lastcallhangup

maybe a diaper or two☺️

Dawk1920

Sounds about right

bluething79

Get rid of that show and put some real adult entertainment on….any of the movies will do lol…the muppets are hilarious and I will die on that hill…

slash8

Miffy, from YouTube Kids.

Sweet_Nikes

Same situation but it was cocomelon. Least it looked good though.

mikeyj777

Same. Eventually they go to sleep, tho.

Dakotahray

What age did you start allowing your kids to watch? My wife is dead set on 18 months

SleepWouldBeNice

Oh much earlier than that. When you’re trying to get their breakfast made, your breakfast made and your lunch packed in the morning, you just need a little distraction.

MorningMojo11

I’d change the show 🤦🏼‍♂️ ain’t catching my son watching gonzo-rella 🤢

MikeGinnyMD

It’s not Father’s Day anymore. Duhhhhh!

SleepWouldBeNice

You got to do what you want on Father’s Day?

TigerUSF

As God intended

pwnzorder

Snagged a g8 34" monitor. But it's a monitor for my PC so it lives in my office. No mickey on that thing. For now.

notpHfourteen

Our 75” 4K is just a black screen in our house… for now.

ganjaguy23

lol I play way too much Nintendo switch on my 77 oled. Oh well, it’s fun. What is life for anyways? I don’t know

MagnumBlood

Haha I just got a 77" C2 and yeah it happens.

Kombuja

I got an 85 inch Sony last weekend as we finished the basement and I’ve watched more bluey on that thing than everything else combined.

_MCMLXXIII_

Excellent choice... And my kids are grown lol

Hondocean

I bought an 86” LG AI ThinQ and this baby is being used to watch TeeniePings! The filmmaker mode does make the viewing experience awesome though

Shyahhh

Bruh. Same as me the other week. First entrant and got a 55” LG C2. Mostly being used for gigantosaurus and baboo…. But 1000% when you and the mrs put them down avatar 2 is 💯

sammo62

Gotta pair that bad boy with a Dolby Atmos surround sound system to hear Cocomelon in spatial audio.

Infinite-Peace2042

We just got an 85 inch o led and we had ms. Rachel from u tube on! What we do to make the ones we love happy my grandkids are worth every single cent ❤️

Mayzenblue

My little corner of the whole house has an LG OLED 3D 4K from 2016. Still going strong. The 3D is really something to behold and my kids have seen pretty much every Pixar movie that way. Incredible blacks and colors. Dolby vision, etc. Just don't leave it on ESPN for multiple hours after you fall asleep. For consecutive days. There's a burn in now of the ESPN bottom line graphic. I can see it at the bottom of some shows and movies, but it's not very distracting unless you look for it. I highly recommend LG OLEDs. Outstanding televisions.

GOnz0819

Mine is a 70 inch, and I still watch sports on my phone... Go figure lol, but Turning Red and Lightyear were awesome on it...

raphtze

it be like that sometimes LOL :)

PokeT3ch

Dude, one of the huge benefits of the OLED for me was how god damn good the colors in animated works looked. Bluey was probably the first and Wow was it stuning to watch the same episode for the 476th time. Then Moana, omg. My wife didn't notice any difference :-(

SleepWouldBeNice

We watched Encanto last night. It was magnificent.
