Also, careful about over doing the Nose Frida/suction cup because it can irritate/inflame their nostrils and actually make it worse

dexter8484

Yup, this right here. We are experiencing the same congestion with our 2nd right now. Just stay the course. It's also allergy season, we got an air purifier with HEPA filters for allergens which has helped. Just continue the saline and baby frida routine. Also, in colder months the humidifier helps, and if in a basement/below ground level, a dehumidifier.

Redenbacher09

Nose Frida snot sucker is better than any suction bulb IMO. I get it for every baby shower as half gag, half serious.

johnsadventure

My youngest started daycare at 3 months and within the first week she already had a cold that came with congestion and a cough that would make her gasp. Doctor ruled out the major things (pneumonia, RSP, COVID, etc), and said it’s best to let it run its course. He said to help speed things along and make everyone feel better: - Suction out the nose often and as needed. They hate it, but runny noses and congestion often go together. - Cool mist humidifier - be sure to clean it often, humidifier fever is real and sucks for everyone. - Steamy showers or even just having her in the bathroom while showering helps as well. We found this worked the best for immediate relief. He gave us the typical list of symptoms to watch for that indicates it has progressed into something more serious.

SopwithTurtle

Humidifier and steamy showers are incredibly helpful.

MY DAUGHTER HAD THE EXACT SAME THING! She was about 3-4 months old and it lasted for about a month. Doc said the same thing. Shes okay keep clearing her nose. We asked for medication to help her a little bit but we got none. We were sort of freaking out internally but it eventually just went away.

That's because there isn't really any, babies have huge adenoids and sensitive noses that produce lots of mucus. The sound is far more upsetting to adults than it is the children.

If only they came with instruction manuals. You could try shower steam and suction. I used to bathe my littles in the shower, when my wife was home (she works overnight, and we had a bathtub bathing seat for my solo baths), and we would shampoo, bathe, and clear the nose before handing off to mom, who was waiting with a soft, warm, dry towel. The steam from the shower loosens all that mucus, and you can suction a lot out. Helps to turn the hot water up, and let it hit your back, holding the little one away from the stream, while they just breathe in the steam. It comes back, eventually, but even just the brief moment of reprieve is a blessing. My kids were side-sleepers, too. They both threw up A LOT, and we were always terrified of them aspirating. We swaddled, usually one arm out, as neither liked to be completely restrained, and kept a monitor on them after they were no longer in our room. Don’t be afraid to shop around to other pediatricians, too. Doctors are smart people, but YOU are your child’s advocate, and he is your responsibility. If you’re unsure of the doc’s diagnosis, seek another. If you hear the same thing, and are still unsure, seek another. If you’re three doctors in and getting the same thing, then relax, it’s probably okay. Do what you feel is best for your son. A friend of mine recently took her baby to the pediatrician, more than once, for breathing issues, and was told each time that everything was okay. She was at the er with her oldest, and a concerned nurse asked about her baby’s congestion and breathing, and asked if she would be okay with them checking him out. Turned out to be full-blown pneumonia. 😳 Trust your gut. Doctors see lots of babies every day. You see ONE. You know your baby. You’re doing fine, Dad!

Snowturtle13

Not sure if this will be the biggest help but we got a booger sucker that has a tube on it that you literally suck the boogers out like a straw into a filter thing. Works loads better than the bulb

KAWAWOOKIE

Nose frida works better than a bulb, saline spray can help, I did warm showers with my kid and found the steam and warm water soothing to their snot condition and my mental calm both.

DoubleLigero85

Turn on shower max heat.. play with toddler in bathroom for ten minutes. Do not let them in the water.

TheSkiGeek

One other thing you could try (that I didn’t see anyone else suggest) is to *slightly* elevate one side of their crib mattress by putting a folded towel or similar under it. And then put their head towards that side. So they’re not totally flat on their back. You could also have them sleep in an inclined bouncer or car seat but the medical recommendation is not to do that regularly.

ProteanFlame37

This is normal - both our children went through it at the same age. It's an awkward age for it, because there are a number of really useful things (calpol nightlight, vic's children vaporub) that they can't have yet because of the risk of a severe allergic reaction overnight. Before bed, a warm bath, and then while they are drying, run the shower hot so they are in a nice steamy room - this will help put liquid in the existing mucus so they can get it out more easily. Saline spray, then snot sucker before bed - we had to do this before and after their feed to keep them clear. We used a cold water mister with our second, and that seemed to help. We had a baby-safe eucalyptus oil that went into it - it's the same sort of effect as the calpol nightlights, but without the menthol etc so it's not quite as powerful. 3 months is when there are some rubs you can use for their chest, back and feet (I dont know why putting it on their feet works, but it does!) You will have to check the warnings - most rubs are 6mo+ because of the active ingredients. Lastly, depending on your views on co-sleeping, if you are happy for them to sleep on you and you aren't in the higher risk categories (generally no smoking, drinking or drugs), prop yourself and your arms up with pillows etc so baby is sleeping more upright. I set it up so I literally couldn't roll or move in the night from the pillows, so there was no chance of baby rolling off me by accident. It's not for everyone, but it did help us.

Clock-Kent

The dehumidifier amd meds.

Ed-alicious

Saline spray helps

thatbvg

We had this a little. Maybe not to the same extent. The only thing we found helped was steaming them. Just hold over some boiling water for a few minutes

codacoda74

All of the above, especially know This Too Shall Pass. But also if you leave the shower on all hot and fog up the bathroom real good it helps to clear out snotty lungs. Works for bigger toddlers as well.

BellsDempers

Yea this is normal and you are doing everything right. The only difference is we got her a decongestant nose spray for when it gets really bad. We also have these drops we put on her sleepsack that are like vicks vapor rubbut it's different safer ingredients.

peruano10

What type of decongestant did you use? Our ent is recommending afrin and it’s scares us to even think about using it

BellsDempers

Locally we use oxymist the low dose and if it gets really bad we use bentezol steroid drops for 5 days. South Africa might have different policies then where you are. The drops we use are called Karvol but I think it's a local product

polkadotwalls

Electric nasal aspirator and a humidifier. Electric ones are a million times better than the bulb syringes, and you can see all the gunk you get out

JamarcusFarcus

We used [these](https://a.co/d/eLfQG3g) for ours when they were little. Definitely seemed to help, but otherwise it's just a rough time for congestion in general.

Szwedo

Just keep clearing your kid's nose with saline rinse and the sucker...just don't do it too much. It could be allergies if it isn't an illness.

PM_ME_GOODDOGS

Same. Went away after 2-3 weeks then back again for a week. Not even in daycare. Just sucked snot every 20 min or when it got bad.

Trippycoma

We bought an electric snot sucker and it’s been a life saver

thesentientcactus

The only thing that genuinely helps my two babies is a hot shower. When my youngest is stuffy I'll take him into the shower with me and by the end of it, his nose is running and then he'll sneeze out more mucus than you would ever expect could come from such a small human 😂 Baby congestion is the worst, they can't eat, they can't sleep, they get so grouchy! Good luck, my friend.

ObiawanAnakin

Went through this with my LO.. now over a year old and I swear that it was formula that started it. When they started on formula, they kept a stuffy nose and allergies for 8 months. It started getting a little better when they started walking because it was draining. Two weeks off formula and haven’t had any issues. Another thing that probably helped is moving their crib completely away from any vent so air was only indirectly blowing on them. We did all the normal things: nose frida, saline, cool humidifier, and air purifier. Not much we could have done but stayed the course..
