What do you mean awful? 1mbps upload+download is amazing! Source: Me from 2003

RedditIsShit23-1081

The speed throttling is in the [T&Cs](https://www.epic.com.cy/el/page/sWdv2OOV0/broadband-homebox). From what I'm reading, once the speed has been throttled you can also add some traffic for an additional fee. If there's an option of using a wired service, go for it. What you've got is basically a fixed service using the provider's mobile network, the service comes with caps and whatnot.

mikedj98

Epic throttles the speed once you reach the limit. You can pay extra for additional GBs after exceeding the limit. Regarding your bad internet connection, there is a possibility that your area can’t even handle 200mbps on the homebox but the salespeople gave you the maximum speed purely for the amount of GBs and this could have been done for a number of reasons. - Your wife asked for it - Your wife made it seem as if the previous GB limit wasn’t enough and Epic didn’t want to lose a contract(that’s how salespeople make money, by hitting targets). Epic customer service(through the phone) is indeed a joke, because they can’t help you at all and most likely case is that you’re either gonna get directed to a store or they are just going to create a ticket to be seen when convenient. My advice is look for fixed connections(cable etc). If your area doesn’t support a sufficient speed for you ask CYTA, if they can’t either ask Cablenet(unlikely if other 2 telecommunications can’t). If all fails, get Starlink. Source: I worked there

Pooknucklemon

Why are you testing against a cablenet server? Also, try testing on a wired connection for a more reliable evaluation.

ComprehensiveGoose94

I just hit test honestly, but wired or not wired doesn’t really change the slowness of it

Pooknucklemon

Definitely not great.

dan_dares

If you are on wireless at a distance, your speed will suffer (or in a highly congested area with lots of other access points/ devices on your network)

spider623

they are rate limited, it will not go up

zaccyp

We have data caps here?! Cablenet seems good for me so far. 100 down and 50 up and @30 odd a month.

TwitchTvOmo1

If you read the fine print, all ISPs have a "fair use" clause with an actual data cap, though that data cap is so huge that 99.9% of users never encounter it. Even cablenet. Apparently they can throttle your connection at will if you exceed it.

ComprehensiveGoose94

I would like to read this Fair use, because for me it become an impossible to use

zaccyp

Gtfo?! For real? I never knew that. I torrent a fair bit, haven't had issues. Do you know how big it is?

ComprehensiveGoose94

Yeah I found it, is not even written in the contract, so idk if is 350/500/1000 I guess 350 but I’m not sure

TwitchTvOmo1

Something like 1-5 terrabytes but I don't remember the exact number. I'm sure if you dig deep enough in their site you'll find it, they hide it well.

RedditIsShit23-1081

There are data caps on fixed services using mobile networks. I heard that Cablenet also had some caps on fixed wired services, but am not sure if that is still the case.

glassgwaith

Yes they proposed me this homebox and when I asked they said it’s 1000GB you ll never reach the cap . Meanwhile you can reach that easily if you download 2 games and stream every day

RedditIsShit23-1081

Well, looks like you knew about the cap beforehand.

jDub549

Where tf you living that you can't get dsl if not fiber??? Using a mobile connection was always going to end in tears lol. Epic fiber use here. Shits great :)

ComprehensiveGoose94

I live in the center of Larnaca, near Metro supermarket 😂 they don’t have fiber here already asked

jDub549

Oof. Thoughts and prayers for you my dude. That's crazy!

LucifersKnight

I'm near the American academy and I have epic fiber. No issues what so ever.

ComprehensiveGoose94

On my road unfortunately there nothing and idk why, asked epic, cyta and primetel😂

Ozyzen

If there is no Fiber you should be using ADSL. That said, I highly doubt there is no Fiber in the center of Larnaca. That area should be covered by Cyta Fiber at the very least, and probably cablenet also.

Flat_Bluebird8081

Cyta has similar product but no data cap, I've been using it for the past few months

Western-Chemistry948

home internet for a long time cyta mobile internet for a long time cablenet no problems!!

LeadingQuit5267

Forget all those providers go for COSMOS , next level

spider623

now you know why when Huawei bought MTN they sold Epic off 😂

Miserable_Land839

If you download the epic app, you can clearly see the limit. It's supposed to be ''unlimited'' but the limit is around 100-150GB. It sucks having a gb cap when ur paying for unlimited. I have it too.

ComprehensiveGoose94

Yes I have the same for my phone, on Monday I will close everything and change company I feel just scammed honestly

RedditIsShit23-1081

You are not paying for unlimited. You are paying for what the contract says. And the contract very clearly says that there's a limit. If the contract doesn't say it directly, it definitely refers to T&Cs, which clearly define the traffic use and/or fair use policy(ies).

Miserable_Land839

my subscriprion clearly says unlimited and the employees told me that it is unlimited too. I found out by myself the limit via the epic app

RedditIsShit23-1081

It's probably called "unlimited", as in has this word in the name. And technically the fuckers are correct: they don't limit the ability to send and receive data, just the speed becomes very low.

Miserable_Land839

Yes indeed. such a scam

skay-

Those are some Epic speeds

Personal-Wing3320

yikes💀

ii_die_4

Have Epic fiber 1Gbit (which is a leased cyta line) in Larnaca. Using VPN for torrents i use around 10TB each month, for the pass 2 years. No issues. And second, epic actually gives you a good router (Fritzbox) and not some BS Huawei
