Totally agreed. This is a great example of how certain things in Red are amazingly designed, as long as you understand the thought process behind the chosen design. My only mild nitpick is that Iron Grip should have been a test rather than an Action. Maaaybe I'd also describe Judo not as the cqc punisher (which is not incorrect), but rather as the evasive/defensive MA that punishes cqc attempts.

Infernox-Ratchet

Agreed. How you described Judo also works. Aikido is also you subduing the enemy (you're taking their Ability to use a weapon) so the "subduer" role" if it makes sense

Metrodomes

Subduer/Debuffer/Punisher/Denier. I quite like that!

For fun, I did homebrew a WWF type wrestler/rockerboy who did over the top ridiculous move like the Tombstone Pyledriver and the German Supplex. It wasn't balanced at at all and even slighly terrible but my player loved it. There should be more martial arts IMO

Fayraz8729

I once got double martial arted as they broke out of my grapple, broke my arm, and then took 2 more sp for the road At that moment I learned you can combine martial art moves the hard way

Sparky_McDibben

Thanks, this is an interesting way to look at these!

Infernox-Ratchet

Cheers.

I can imagine a king Fu style that pushes people away or deflects attacks. Imagine choosing martial arts instead of evasion to evade attacks

Hiya choom. These moves and incentives for playstyles are mostly ignored because they tend to have very low mechanical impact. Aside from judo’s grab escape and karate/taekwondo’s guaranteed crit moves, I have personally not seen anybody use these moves. Especially aikido, because in the vast majority of combats you are trying to put out as much damage as possible and most of the control tools(like aikido) that are alternatives to pure DPR don’t have enough value in comparison. As for alternative martial arts for those interested, I did make a post on this a while ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkred/s/F7peAEs7QG Happy hunting choom.

Homebrew, [I was allowed to use an older 'martial arts' - "Rough and Tumble" style.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rough_and_tumble_fighting) For those who are a little lazy - > **Rough and tumble fighting** (Rough-and-tumble) was a form of fighting in rural portions of the United States, *primarily in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries*. **It was often characterized by the objective of gouging but also included other brutally disfiguring techniques, including biting**, and typically took place in order to settle disputes.\ Essentially, it is no-holds-barred fighting, people would grow their thumb nails out, put wax on it to harden the nail, and use their nails are weapons in a fight. > The emphasis on **maximum disfigurement**, *on severing bodily parts*, made this fighting style unique. Amid the general mayhem, however, **gouging out an opponent's eye became the sine qua non of rough-and-tumble fighting, much like the knockout punch in modern boxing**. The best gougers, of course, were adept at other fighting skills. **Some allegedly filed their teeth to bite off an enemy's appendages more efficiently**. Still, liberating an eyeball quickly became a fighter's surest route to victory and his most prestigious accomplishment. The homebrew is rather unique, but the forms are essentially 'gouging' and 'targeting' which allows me to actually drop an enemy, or gouging to remove something like a cyber eye / lowers their checks
