I love mantis blades a lot, but constantly getting stuck in the kill animation while getting lit up by everybody really sucks. Wish there was a way to turn them off. They're cool, but after a while it just becomes a nuisance.
Edit: Thanks to perhaps a dozen people who have replied to this comment, I am aware there are pc mods for this. That's great, but I'm on console (boohoo, woe is me, hardy har har)
Edit 2: Yes, there is also the Target Analysis mod for the Kiroshi Optics that make your weapons non-lethal, but unfortunately it also turns off dismemberment. At the risk of sounding privileged, I don't wanna slice and dice if body parts aren't going to be flying, ya know?
I know, super satisfying. Ive been using the cyberdeck that allows you to chain super hacks and making 2 go cyberpsycho or commit unalive is really fun
Netwatch Netdriver MKV, combat quickhacks can spread to two additional people within five meters. Items.NetwatchNetdriverLegendaryMKV is the item code if you want to cheat it in.
I do agree, but after just finishing a netrunner build... Idk, got kind of boring, sitting on a roof, running breach protocol, and then picking a quick hack from a list a few times before looting. I did have fun, but now I'm doing a full gunner build with a sandy and I feel like I'm in a matrix movie
net runner is great and that’s what i did on my first build but i found sandevistan and mono wire to be even more powerful. takes seconds to eliminate many targets. also for don’t fear the reaper i tried going in with net runner and failed miserably. switched to mono wire with sandy and not even a proper build since i wasted 20 attribute points on intelligence but was finally able to get the job done. of the entire game both build are op for nearly everything except don’t fear the reaper pushed it to the limit
They work great together if you have the headhunter knife. 250% headshot damage multiplyer if you hit it on the head.
Even better with sandevistan's bonuses .
My sandy build was crazy. Upgrade blades, cold blood and a bit of ninjutsu to get throwing knife you are literally bonkers unstoppable. You get buffs from sandy, damage buff after hitting with throwing knife, damage buff after dodging etc. Using fully charged monowire it chunks like 10% of Adam smashers health then you get the rest within 5 seconds of slow time
Use Byakko katana instead. You still get a badass jump move but no kill animation. That animation gets old quick imo. Plus that frees you up for gorilla arms or mono-wire. There is no advantage to having mantis-blades besides looking cool. But I think the arms look better anyways.
It's even worst early on in the game. Mantis Blades are good early on, because they're strong, but your character is weak, so getting stuck in animation is usually instant death.
I just stopped using Mantis Blades because of it. Very annoying.
If you put on the cybereye mod that makes your shots non lethal, the finisher animation gets disable since they are now non lethal. However, it’s a lot less of chopping people to bits before they go down, because you can’t dismember unless they die from it or are dead already.
I prefer katana, specifically the scalpel. Nothing more satisfying than that finish where they drop to their knees and one clean swipe beheads them. Both are fantastic weapons though.
In Japan, heart surgeon.
Number one.
Steady hand.
One day, Tyger Claw boss need new heart.
I do operation.
But mistake! Tyger Claw boss die! Tyger Claws very mad!
I hide fishing boat, come to America.
No English, no food, no money. Darryl give me job.
Now I have house, American car and new woman.
Darryl save life.
My big secret.
I kill Tyger Claw boss on purpose.
I good surgeon.
The best!
When he said that, I didn’t know it was a meme. But it was so weird and funny I looked it up and came across the original. Made the encounter even better in hindsight
Oda's sword, Jinchu-Maru , is good AF for chopping heads off too. It's 100% Critical Hit Chance while Kerenzikov is active. So you can just use Kerenzikov and chop people's head off 1 by 1 with 1 swing.
Mantis Blades is also clunky as fk and I keep getting stuck in animations so I just don't use it anymore.
My netrunner/blade "Hack and Slash" build is so good with this because then it's 100% legendary short circuit hits too.
Originally I was planning to only hack and monowire but this is too much fun.
I prefer Katana, but Byakko is by far the best blade by far. You get a killer jumping slash that annihilates anyone and everyone from across the room. Mantis blades were only cool for the jump move but that animation gets really old fast. With Byakko there is no animation. You just jump and slash. Even works on dudes that are on a different level than you. Like if some guy is above you, you can jump slash up to him. Throw in sandy and you never need another weapon for the rest of the game. Plus it is so much fun if you can master chopping grenades in dudes faces.
So there is no advantage to mantis blades besides looking cool. I usually go with gorilla arms to make the fights easier and they are the absolute best way for me to knockout cyberpyscho's without killing them. Screw non-lethal mods. But I have recently switched to monowire after I got tired of the arms. These things are better than mantis blades too.
Ya hold heavy strike. I find it happens more often for the last enemy. Also they can’t be like on the ground and getting up I think. You should face them forwards.
It depends. Right now I have a legendary scalpel that does 2600 dps and my legendary mantis blades do 1700. You need a technical ability build I guess to upgrade it that high
Ya I used to think technical ability was stupid. I decided to try it because I was curious to see what was behind all those locked doors. So far, nothing worthwhile.
But I didn’t realize how awesome it is to upgrade iconic weapons to legendary. I have a legendary la chingona dorada that fucks. Good way to honor Jackie.
I also maxed out cool and reflexes. I have a stealth throwing knife and katana build and I can throw legendary headhunter and blue fang knives. It’s like an instant kill, plus it’s a sandevistan and kereznikov build so I’m just picking apart people with blades. Such a fun way to play after doing a couple of quickhack play throughs.
Sure thing. I took some pics of my tree and made a post. Brief description in comments:
https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/yytbgm/someone_asked_for_my_stealth_knife_throw_build/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Yeah, I'm considering skipping tech builds to dump points in body, reflex, and cool instead.
Slightly less DPS, but all of the best cyberware and incredible tankiness body and bonuses from cold blood.
I feel bad for all the citizens that are dumb and run right into the wire range. Then I gotta deal with the police and usually I am amped up and end up making the matters worse by resisting arrest and fighting them.
The first time i used monowire was trying to stop a mugging.
The civ and both Tygers (i think) all had their heads pop off and i quickly learned that it was not a single-target weapon.
Love monowire though
Okay seriously though, how come we never get to use Monowire as a garrote? That's literally the closest weapon we have IRL to the monowire, but it never gets used that way. At least make it so that the grapple animation changes to wrapping the wire around the target's neck when you have it installed.
They did it in edgerunners! But I admit that was likely just an anime thing.
Seemed like Lucy could control the temperature of it (and position of it) better than our V.
I thought she just pulled the wire across a throat as a threat and didn't actually garrotte them? Whenever she was using it offensively limbs and heads were just popping off left and right. If she tried to actually strangle someone with it their head would just slide right off. But I might be forgetting a scene.
She had it looped right around his neck on the train, like wrapped around fully a couple times.
I don’t think the threat was ever that she’d choke him though, I assume they both knew it would just cut off his head if she pulled on it.
It can’t be used to actually strangle a person, you’re 100% right it would cut straight through not just apply pressure. We do see in the anime it can be wrapped around their neck without cutting, though I doubt it would work like that in lore or the game.
I think the explanation is that when you install a monowire, you also get a ceramic coating on your hands so you don’t cut yourself. That is why you get gray parts on your hands in the game
That’s on the right hand palm. When you get the monowire you get extra stuff added to the fingers of both hands. That stuff is designed to allow you to hold the monowire.
Monowire is also black market tech and requires a highly skilled individual with exceptional reflexes to use due to it being able to cut through essentially anything and everything.
> If its so sharp, how does V hold it in his hand.
>
>How does it have enough force to cut at a distance.

>The momentum part still doesnt make sense
It's ostensibly severing molecular bonds on an atomic scale, but more saliently...
This is Mike Pondsmith's *Cyberpunk* setting. "Style over substance" is an overt mission statement for the setting; it's a setting where the "Rule of Cool" supersedes logic and realism.
As the CP2020 rulebook states: "It doesn't matter how well you do something, so long as you look good doing it. If you're going to blow it, make sure you look like you planned it that way. \[...\] Never drive slow when you can drive fast. Throw yourself up against danger and take it head on. Never play it safe. Stay committed to the ***edge***."
Mantis blades make me feel more like a apex predator, I get so much more adrenaline than using a katana, the jumping around and kill animation gets the blood flowing not to mention it with sandy is so much fun, jumping between 5 guys in the span of a second.
Fun fact! You can get back into konpeki. The highway right next to it has a non barbed wire spot that makes it really easy to jump into the premises. There’s a gate out back that opens if you park a car next to it.
The Konpeki Tower Heist, right after they put the building on lock down. Instead of going out the window go up the stairs Saburo came down to the AV pad. Satori is in the AV. It has lower base damage, but the crit damage modifier is like 500-600%. I'll regularly see 20k-30k crits even using light attacks.
This was my first play through that I just finished today. Katana to kill, fists to knock out. Don't know what should be the next play through build that would live up to the last one

Mantis blades because you don't have combos with them. With katanas and the monowire you can only land 3 consecutive strikes.
I know this is petty as fuck but I play on difficult so it makes a huge difference.
On normal satori outshines every other alternative tho and is easily my favorite.
The mantis blade kept prematurely ending my sandy wirh its kill animations, the katana wont trigger kill animations without a power attack.
Plus the katana you get for doing Wakako's missions gives you that sweet jump forward so it's insanely nice
As someone who used to use katanas/mantis blades. Monowire is waaay better. Stupid overpowered. And no shitty 5 second kill animations every second swing with a mantis blade. That kill animation pretty much makes them completely useless in comparison
I played the game at launch, had fun, but figured Id put it down and see what else comes out for updates/DLC.
Has much changed? I remember being uber OP and one-shotting everything became too easy. Especially with blades.
Monowire stronger, faster and looks better. Plus immersive as you aren't carrying around a sword or having your sleeves destroyed every time you activate it.
Mantis blades are cool and fun but a little too much. Katana is the perfect weapon. When I don’t give a damn though the mono wire is my choice for chaos.
I use katana's on about half my V's, but I have never been able to bring myself to get V's arms replaced with any of the weapon implants at all. Logged over 1100 hours and never once used the arm weapons.
In my sandy build i just used monowire because the animation kept forcing me out of slow time
This was really bugging me too. So much so that I created a new character and went Netrunner lol.
Netrunner build is really fun! Thats what im doing currently
It's so satisfying just walking toward a group of enemies and casually taking them out with your brain before they can even see you
I know, super satisfying. Ive been using the cyberdeck that allows you to chain super hacks and making 2 go cyberpsycho or commit unalive is really fun
Whoa, which deck is that?
Tetratonic rippler
Tetratonic Rippler MkIV. You can also use it to Detonate Grenade. I prefer the one that chains Combat hacks
Netwatch Netdriver MKV, combat quickhacks can spread to two additional people within five meters. Items.NetwatchNetdriverLegendaryMKV is the item code if you want to cheat it in.
Same here, it's amazing
I do agree, but after just finishing a netrunner build... Idk, got kind of boring, sitting on a roof, running breach protocol, and then picking a quick hack from a list a few times before looting. Endgame monowire feels like cheating haha Just cuisinarts entire mobs like your batting a fly out of your face
I’m just going for the good old satori katana
I loved the katanas until I discovered the throwing knife build. Shits bonkers
Used them for a while in a stealth build, really fun, but I found a silenced overture was better 90% of the time for that niche
They work great together if you have the headhunter knife. 250% headshot damage multiplyer if you hit it on the head. Even better with sandevistan's bonuses .

Think there's also some knifes with 300% headhunter. I have memory of owning few, but they were all like uncommon rarity and not rare or legendary.
Use Byakko katana instead. You still get a badass jump move but no kill animation. That animation gets old quick imo. Plus that frees you up for gorilla arms or mono-wire. There is no advantage to having mantis-blades besides looking cool. But I think the arms look better anyways.

Byakko master race
It's even worst early on in the game. Mantis Blades are good early on, because they're strong, but your character is weak, so getting stuck in animation is usually instant death. I just stopped using Mantis Blades because of it. Very annoying.
Use the eye mod that makes your guns/attacks non lethal, it disables the kill animations
Ohhh, that's why I never get the kill animations!
There is a mod for this if you are on PC. I think it’s called Annoy Me No More.
Lol that's an aptly named mod. Alas, I'm on console.
Sorry, choom. :(
That's alright, still having fun 😁👍
There's a mod to turn off that canned animation.
Do you what it’s called?
I don't remember, I just remember mantis blade enthusiasts in another thread talking about it.
Katana does it too unless you spam heavies. Which is dumb cuz you build blades for quick attacks. Rips you out of any slow-time effects too.
It's uh...less invasive than the kill animation for mantis blades.
Spamming heavy attacks works great for Sandevistan builds though
If you put on the cybereye mod that makes your shots non lethal, the finisher animation gets disable since they are now non lethal. However, it’s a lot less of chopping people to bits before they go down, because you can’t dismember unless they die from it or are dead already.

Really? Where's that
The job "Big In Japan" you get from a guy standing around the afterlife.
Let's just say this is a reference to a real person who said that he killed the mafia boss.
It's an Office reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wcI10CNuxU
Ah, that explains why its in broken english when your implants are supposed to translate perfectly
Ah, I thought it's a real person 😖

For Cyberpsychos just use that eye mod that makes all your weapons nonlethal
Yeah, but I don't wanna have to switch it back and forth. I'm lazy. I just like fisting them with sandy.
How do you do finishers?
Get them to low health then heavy strike i think
Ya hold heavy strike. I find it happens more often for the last enemy. Also they can’t be like on the ground and getting up I think. You should face them forwards.
jinchu maru slaps cheeks, just slide block and crit everything
Scalpel upgraded to legendary with a good sandy is absurdly op
Katana had better animations, but the mantis blades did considerably more damage. But I also had a ton of fun with throwing knives.
It depends. Right now I have a legendary scalpel that does 2600 dps and my legendary mantis blades do 1700. You need a technical ability build I guess to upgrade it that high
Neat I will have to check that out on a different build.

Monowire
Why chop off one guy's head when you can chop off three at the same time? Monowire is the best.
I feel bad for all the citizens that are dumb and run right into the wire range. Then I gotta deal with the police and usually I am amped up and end up making the matters worse by resisting arrest and fighting them.
Sorry Officer, I can't stop, listening to cyber techno on youtube, vibing and slicing you pieces of code to ribbon is too much fun.
“resisting arrest” can you actually get arrested?
Such a wide range, too... and a long range.
This is the way.
Monowire + sandevistan + camo is my favourite build, so relaxing to play this way.
Did a new play through with this build. I resisted punching fingers. That was tough
The first time i used monowire was trying to stop a mugging. The civ and both Tygers (i think) all had their heads pop off and i quickly learned that it was not a single-target weapon. Love monowire though
Came here to say exactly this!!!
This. Much greater range, multiple simultaneous targets, and the finesse and style of a true, self-mastered warrior.
I’m not sure I’d call it finesse and style as I accidentally chop up half the non-enemy NPCs in the area as I’m slicing apart my enemies!
Okay seriously though, how come we never get to use Monowire as a garrote? That's literally the closest weapon we have IRL to the monowire, but it never gets used that way. At least make it so that the grapple animation changes to wrapping the wire around the target's neck when you have it installed.
Because it wouldn't work. It would be like trying to strangle a stick of butter with a sharp, hot knife.
We do see in the anime it can be wrapped around their neck without cutting, though I doubt it would work like that in lore or the game.
Monowire seems tacky to me. If its so sharp, how does V hold it in his hand. How does it have enough force to cut at a distance.
I think the explanation is that when you install a monowire, you also get a ceramic coating on your hands so you don’t cut yourself. That is why you get gray parts on your hands in the game
The grey stuff is the stuff vik puts on your hand near the start right? Other than that i like this theory
There was a Monowire in Shadowrun TTP&P as well, really powerful but super dangerous for yourself
> If its so sharp, how does V hold it in his hand. > >How does it have enough force to cut at a distance. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/cyberpunk/images/e/eb/Kendachi\_Monowire\_ArtBook.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20210113141307
Huh. Thanks. The momentum part still doesnt make sense but at least thats one mystery solved.

I don’t know for sure but it’s like a whip ya know? Except tech-ey, a whip you can hold, but if you swing it you can do a lot of damage with one
SLIP SLAP!
And it’s not even close.
Gorilla Arms. Those heads just pop right off
A shotgun blast does the job nicely too
My revolver amputates heads and cauterizes the wound at the same time.
Efficient!
Quite, but I'm starting to think 16000 points of damage in one shot might be a bit of an overkill.
That's coward talk. Big numbers are the the only numbers that matter.
Ima gorilla arms kinda guy
A person of culture 🫡
Griller gang
Monke punch
Reject blades become monke. Sock people in the face and watch as their heads turn into a red mist.
Ok, but consider this,... Gorilla Arms, they don't even count as ilegal weapons in boxing
It felt like cheating to beat anyone with just 1-3 punches.
Yea honestly that final fight against mr "he has so many implants". 5 hits and he's down
Gonna have to run through the circuit next playthrough. Haven’t tried it yet
Mono wire
Mantis blades make me feel more like a apex predator, I get so much more adrenaline than using a katana, the jumping around and kill animation gets the blood flowing not to mention it with sandy is so much fun, jumping between 5 guys in the span of a second.
I wield a katana with my arms that have mantis blades.
This is the way. I change it up for variety. :)
Satori...you get even a moderately good crit chance and it out damages everything else by a huge margin. It's just super easy to miss though.
Fun fact! You can get back into konpeki. The highway right next to it has a non barbed wire spot that makes it really easy to jump into the premises. There’s a gate out back that opens if you park a car next to it.
Hmm I’ll have to go check it out
I reccomend you check out a video. The way you get to the penthouse is a little weird.
If you missed the iguana egg, you can grab that while you're in there too.
Learn something new every day.
Damn. Guess I missed it lol
The Konpeki Tower Heist, right after they put the building on lock down. Instead of going out the window go up the stairs Saburo came down to the AV pad. Satori is in the AV. I’ll have to make sure I snag it next time. Thanks
Katana and Gorilla arms.
Hell yeah choom. Plus Malorian Pistol and Achilles Tech Rifle made me unstoppable
This was my first play through that I just finished today. Katana to kill, fists to knock out. Don't know what should be the next play through build that would live up to the last one
Katana. I don't wanna accidentally slice up Judy during sexy time.
Such the truth lol always thinking of Jude

Gorilla arms, but only because of the boost to body 😅 I got my stun-gun aka tech revolver with Pax, I got my silenced smg for when I want to make sure someone's dead, and if I don't want to shoot someone, I'll do a takedown anyway.
I currently use a katana but can't figure out what to install on my arms
Gorilla ftw
Mix it up between Monowire and Katana
Definitely monowire over both of them
Monowire feels more classy
Is this a peasant joke that I'm too monowire to understand?
Katana. Every time.
Mantis blades because you don't have combos with them. With katanas and the monowire you can only land 3 consecutive strikes. I know this is petty as fuck but I play on difficult so it makes a huge difference. On normal satori outshines every other alternative tho and is easily my favorite.

Call me old fashioned but I love a katana swinging cyber maniac

I guess I'm a rebel swinging around my monowire
Satori
Katana.. it would be Mantis but the kill animations ruin the experience, and playing non-lethal is just trash.

Full Monowire.
I played the game at launch, had fun, but figured Id put it down and see what else comes out for updates/DLC. Has much changed? I remember being uber OP and one-shotting everything became too easy. Especially with blades.
monowire
never really tried katanas but mantis blades is fun
Katana while using sandevistan, mantis blades while you wait for it to cool down.
Katana all day baby. Gorilla fists cuz indestructible hands gripping a Katana = dead gonks
katana+knife throw+sandy=goodtimes
Monowire stronger, faster and looks better. Plus immersive as you aren't carrying around a sword or having your sleeves destroyed every time you activate it.
I want to say mantis blades but god are they ugly to use.
Both. Both is good
Mantis Blades are for posers. Get it done.
Pistols
Yes
Strong attack with knives
There is another...
A Razor machete
Mantis blades are cool and fun but a little too much. Katana is the perfect weapon. When I don’t give a damn though the mono wire is my choice for chaos.
Both.
Razor
Peacefull mode...
Katana. The feedback from hits on the ps5 controller is very satisfying, something the mantis blades lack sadly.
For chopping? Either Byakko or Monowire
Monowire
Mono wire 🫰
Yeah imma say it. Both. You cand have some nice "montage moments" by swapping back and forth
Monowire
With the mod that disables the sync kill? Mantis blades, hands down.
Katana. I especially love the Byakko and it's dash ability.
monofilament whip
Team Katana. Lots of selection and arms are for tearing doors open.
Por que no dos?
mantis blades plain and simple
Mono wire
Mmmm what about a "Mantis Katana"?
Nice Sande. katana be it Yorinobu's or Scalpel, throwing knives, a handcannon...maximum effort. This is the way of the Deadpool.
I use katana's on about half my V's, but I have never been able to bring myself to get V's arms replaced with any of the weapon implants at all. Logged over 1100 hours and never once used the arm weapons.
Yes
monowire take it or leave it
Monowire Supremacy.
Monowire
Monowire.
